Thats the whole point of why I am here

I love seeing really awesome stuff like this, and then I always try to think up some "Burn Notice" style scenario where knowing stuff like this could somehow save the day.

This was on outrageous acts of science

cool trick, though i expected something more dramatic to happen like the other glasses blowing up or something.

I think it's to make the wineglass airtight

I felt bad for knowing what was going to happen and why, but then I realized that it means I'm not completely stupid :)

Or, alternately, use mercury instead of water (in controlled conditions of course) and break the wine glass.

twist and the tissue should break up, leaving gaps which should let air in, or leverage would probably work as well.

When burning, the dry tissue consumed part of the air under the wineglass. Since the wet tissue makes the wineglass airtight, there is a pressure difference between both sides of the plate in the area under the wineglass, which is enough to allow to wineglass to lift the plate and two glasses with water (that can be replaced be anything, they're just here to show how powerful air pressure is) I feel like a drawing would be more useful but just think of it as a glass plunger or Nerf dart.

Awesome, but you should have given more explanation. So is it because part of the O2 in the air inside reacted with the glucose from the tissue and became H2O and thus less gas is inside the glass? Next time, PLEEEAAASSSEE! More explanation!
