use an different magent. Just make sure that one isn't as strong as the magent the fuerrofulid is stuck to

Take away the magnet, the fluid never is in direct contact with the magnet as you might have seen

reggiep75 The spikes are the tiny magnetic particles trying to align with the magnetic field, but the surface tension of the oil keeps them from going as far outward as they normally would.

Ferrofluid can be made from various things, so i assume it depends on what would be used to make it. The simplest way is using cooking oil and ink toner. Im sure its not harmful to touch, but you wouldnt want to drink the stuff.
