What I think are the ultimate modifications and build for my 2020 KTM 790 Adventure R (would apply to a 2021 KTM 890 Adventure R also)

    Thanks for the good vid. I Ride lots of course gravel (that's how roads are made where I'm from), along with some dirt and some asphalt. I mounted Motoz Tractionator Adventure front, and GPS rear on from day one. They have worked extremely well on the 790. I have 11,000 km (about 6800 miles) and there is still lots of life left in them. I've had quite a few bikes, and this is by far the best bike/tire combo that I have experienced for the type of riding I do. There is also very little tire noise which is nice.

    @@MrAdvrider I'm on my second set of the Dunlop Trailmax Missions (on my 790R). For a semi-knobbie, they are excellent on the street (rip thru twisties), are really good in dirt and rocks, poor in mud and terrible in deep powder or sand. In deep sand the rear just digs holes and the front does not track at all. As long as you know what you are headed for I highly recommend them. When new there is a slight vibe on the freeway, but much less than true knobbies. Cheers

    @Stower329 @22:30 Correct me if I am wrong. The front tire's lateral grooves are symmetrical which to me means this tire is directional. From my experience, those lateral grooves needs to point toward the direction of rotation. This will allow the those lateral grooves to evacuate water from under the tire during wet weather. I think the front tire is mounted backward. This might explain the sketchy performance during wet weather you commented about.

    I have the same idling issue with my KTM 250 Adventure. it wont idle on the first two starts and it will idle on the third start took it to the service center like 3 times and they kind of fixed it on the third time they said there was a buildup of air in the fuel tank which was causing it. it was fine for about a week and now its back to the same issue . hopefully they can get it fixed cause I can't get a decat or any kind of exhaust cause the aftermarket exhaust rules here in India are pretty strict.

    I used zip ties through the molle loops on them. I used about 10 zip ties per side in case one broke. I also carry extra. But I have not had any break so far.

    Thanks for the video. I just picked up a 890 Adventure R and was thinking I’d get the Reckless 80 because I didn’t think I wanted to do a rack. Now I think I will go with the 35’s on a rack. I’ve been thinking I wanted a Rotopax for fuel mounted on the inside where you have your toolbox, not sure yet.

  • @MrAdvrider

    @MrAdvrider

    Жыл бұрын

    I think a roto would fit on thie inside. My buddy rides a T7 with the same rack and does so. The only issue is the roto is tough to get off when it is inside the panier for some reason, at least on his bike. He ends up just using a roto mount on the tail. I have the MSR cans on the back, but because I ride with 2 T7's in my group they always need gas before me so I have never filled them.

    Nice video from a moto perfectionist. I have most of your mods as well. That exhaust sound is awesome! I have only wings muffler and midpipe. While did not go for decat as opinions on how remapping affects engine diverged. Some even said it reduces power. How did you ensure that mapping got well?

  • @MrAdvrider

    @MrAdvrider

    I have not remapped. I certainly did not loose power. It does not seem to run lean or rich, but at some point I may remap it.

    So I’m coming from dirt bike world and ordered a 23 890R. I’m planning on treating it like a dirt bike but still go state to state. It seems the reckless 80 is much closer to the bike for balance and narrower for clearance. Do you still use the rackless system for technical single track or the standard soft panniers aren’t much different?

    i did not do a tune on the bike after the decat. It does not seem to run rich or lean, so I have not go to the effort. Maybe some day, if others do and I hear it helps.

    Good job on the video. I like everything that you have done to the bike but I prefer the Reckless 80 on this bike. I am looking to cut every five pounds possible and I find that I can take the Reckless off in a matter of a few seconds. I will say that it can be a bit of a challenge to carry into a room. I use the Mosko Backcountry 35’s on the GS/ GSA. I just want to stay light on the 890. Hey when are you doing your windscreen video? I am looking forward to it.

    Here in England, we'd call that bike "the dog's bollocks" (roughly translates as "totally badass"). Expensive overall package, yes but still way, WAY cheaper than even the cheapest hobby sports cars a lot of fellahs keep in their garage and let's face it, still cheaper than the very common (and overweight) GS1200/1250 or KTM 1290 options. Particular kudos to your weight-saving solution for on-the-road tyre/tire repairs - a centre stand is arguably a lot to carry around for no real purpose 99% of the time. Not sure why KTM didn't provide a RebelX style screen and tower as standard on the 790; the OEM bug-like headlights and rudimentary screen are not an aesthetic success. Wise move to choose rack-mounted soft luggage. Your motorcycle seems like the ultimate off-road oriented ADV package. A Unicorn, as they say.

    Thanks! I totally agree that some rally fairing should have come stock. It is a lot of $, but my last 2 adv bikes where a 1200 GSA and a Ducati Multistrada Enduro - both almost double the cost out the show room. So I had room in the budget :)

    Wow, lots of mods! However: Making a bike louder intentionally here in Europe is by now an absolute no go. Not only is the „loud pipes safe lives“ an old myth (how loud would you need to make a bike so that it‘s heard inside a car with closed windows and music on?) but all those open pipes have led to many road closures - the locals can‘t simply stand the noise any longer. Austria has closed popular roads for bikes above a certain noise level, even unmodified bikes! Law makers are now making suggestions for noise levels so low that basically no combustion engine can comply. And personally I don‘t think I need to announce my presence to everyone in a 5km radius, for sure not if I am using roads/trails that maybe I shouldn‘t use. With a quiet bike I have not had complaints yet. Making bikes louder is counter productive in the long run and thanks to those idiots (both on Harleys, Enduros and sports bikes) with straight pipes and really loud bikes we will soon all be forced to ride electric bikes. Above that decatting makes the bike illegal in public traffic and voids manufacturer‘s warranty.
