Man, that seems handy. I'll have my first Kohler Series 2 (17HP), off a 1980's? Ford LGT17H I invested in since had no idea there was a YT16 looking design with the old Jacobson Peerless 2500 that I hope's not a piece of crap. Definitely will be doing some welding work beyond what I was thinking to beef up a little more. Man, still a heavy build and thinking I'll have hauled in three more trips with the Prius... if not two.

Do a eBay search for “Transdenser” and “Transjender” comes up every time. Way to go Fee-Bay! I did purchase two of these last week for the two Arens GT 17’s that I have. The points ark like crazy on those engines and they are hard starting when cold. I checked voltages and tried different condensers, lined the point contacts so they fit completely flat against each other when closed. They still arc like crazy and quickly pit. Hoping that these Transdensers will fix the problem.

Used an old Heathkit add on CDI that I bought for a buck or two at a car swap meet for years on my Bolens with a K341 with zero issues. In the mean time, ran across another brand CDI and bought it, and finally the Heathkit one died. Swapped out for second one, and it ran ignition for several more years. But when that went out, had nothing but trouble going back running on stock points ignition. Found another swap meet buy, a MSD 6D, called them for correct wiring diagram, but found out it was bad (why someone SOLD it in the first place at swapmeet). Somewhere I've got another MSD, and that's what's going to be the 'points saver' for my old Kohler.

Taryl Point and question about the points. Plus a few other questions. The main problem with points is that they corrode and you cannot place oil on them to prevent corrosion. If you do so it causes problems. Questions? (1) Can you put oil, or some sort of anti-corrosive compound on the points using this setup. If you can I would think that the points would without a doubt last the life of the machine (2) I have a couple of old Cub Cadet 125's that are so old that they don’t have the window to set the points. How would you set the timing on an engine of this vintage ? They are so old that they are actually Starter/Generator engines. (3) I noticed that your engine has a light knocking noise as does mine. Is this a pretty common thing ?

pretty much spot on with your description. 30 years ago i built an electronic ignition for my 1977 Mazda 808, one day the car just stopped while driving, the points had totally closed because i neglected to oil the cam and the little block on the points wore down. the module re-energises the coil 5 milliseconds after discharge, giving a hotter spark due to longer charge time on the coil.
