Storyteller Overland hits the sweet spot with these vans. They have everything you need, and nothing you don't. I just wish they also offered them with the longer wheelbase.

Great walkthrough! This is my current favorite and especially after seeing your "Summer trip with Mom". I know that was a Sprinter Beast, but layout is so similar that those videos gave some insight into livability. I think features/quality (power, insulation, build) make the price point fair.

🙋‍♀️Hey Russos! Thank you for the tour! It looks a little cramped in galley with that extra two passenger seating behind the driver, although really like how it converts into a bed. Also prefer the portable convection stove top to provide better counter space and if choosing to use it outdoors. Good point with regard to the soft sided shower area … I wasn’t too keen on it at first, but your explanation sold me on it … plus Storyteller does a really nice job with the set up - everything right there … pretty cool! I’m only at the “research” phase of buying a van, so I really appreciate you taking the time to do this … this video is now saved in my “RV favorites” 🤩 Thanks again for great info! If you don't need a 4*4 or all-wheel drive, you might want to consider a van built on the Ram Promaster which is about 6" wider. Check out other brand builds i.e. Panoramic RV or Winnebago Travato G floorplan, both of which include extra seating, and you can see how the extra width makes a big difference in the space between the kitchen counter and the bench seat. Good luck on your search!

I've got a 2020 Ford Transit AWD that I built out myself mainly for skiing. I was blown away at how good it handles in the snow and I live in Tahoe. I've had it for 2 winters now and it's been great and no problems at all. I ski a lot at Mt Rose and the parking lot is at 8,200 ft and the Espar heater works great!! I can heat the van up to 60 degrees in about 15 minutes, I used Havelock wool for insulation. Nice review and a cool build.

I know you heard me say this a few times over the years Joe…you are THE BEST at doing these walk-thru presentation - they are so well done! This is a very cool lil rig for its limited size, with just the right amount of creature comforts to make it endurable during those times of inclement weather, and you have to remain indoors for a few hours! There were four of you (including Charly) living in this van for 10wks, and you made it work well! Cheers as always 🍻

A lot to like 👍. Perhaps most appealing is the S Bar water heater/furnace. I wonder about that pinch point with the sink and groove lounge. Could get old fast with two travelers.

Interesting Toilet/Shower concept. In the walk thru, I would like to get a better idea of how to set up the toilet for on-the-road privacy with 4 passengers.

Lots of awesome and very useful tech in this small van. But for $155K, I cannot imagine buying a van so short/small. I would also be tempted to buy two purpose-built vehicles for my needs.

Nice review. Can you put your motorcycle in side garage with both beds up? What is the tongue weight?

I would like to see the command center moved from above the side door, to above the driver’s head in that empty space. Also, the groove lounge seems a heavy item if added seating/sleeping quarters not required. Perhaps I will have to build my own

is there any way a composting toilet can be installed by a van builder in the Ford Storyteller version? If not, what are you recommended solutions for solid waste management in this system?

What’s the ground clearance on the mode LT? It’s the only model on storyteller website that doesn’t state the ground clearance.

Thanks for the walkthrough! Since y’all have driven both the STO Mercedes and Ford, which would you consider is the better handling vehicle? Everyday driving, steering, comfy seats etc? I’m considering purchasing either the Classic Mode or LT and would appreciate any input on which one might be a better daily driver and adventure van. Thanks!

Overland Expo shows starting again in Sept. Anxious to see what's in store for the 2023 Mode LT model at the upcoming shows. The Volta system touchscreen is quite an important update in 2022 in my opinion. wondering if the Volta system batteries can be charged with a regular household power cord via inverter already built into the Volta system.

Almost perfect. Steel mesh screen in side main entry and rear door a must for me. Also, bathroom must be at the rear-converts to outside shower. Complete with exhaust fan and sun roof. Also, preferably, a lift-up trunk door with camera. Bring back your spacious Ford signature thru-garage/Storage and your curved trashbin in the kitchen.. Privacy, insulation bet. the cockpit and dining/sleeping side. How long is the wait for this model with my wish-list?

Nicely done! Would love this van, but don’t think they sell in 🇨🇦. Now if Ford Canada honours warranty’s from US that could work. Not as rugged perhaps as the Sprinters, but good for forest roads, some light snow etc. We find showering in our van always a bit of a pain, so having one that could use when needed and otherwise out of the way would be fine (we tend to use the outside shower option more). Suspect we would always end up in sofa mode though. Website noted Heated gray tank and sheep’s wool insulation... So well thought through...Storyteller must actually use their vans! Appreciate the video!

Did you talk about air conditioning when you are not plugged in? Did I miss it? I’m considering one of these, but I travel with my cats. I wouldn’t leave them in there for long periods of time… But I would want them to be comfortable while we are out exploring. Do you talk about that in any of your videos if it’s not in this one? Nice job! You were so thorough! I love the chemistry between you and your wife!

A very well thought out van. Also one of the few family focused Vans. Not sure if at this price point when looking at a family set up one would be better in a class c or even a small class a. Not withstanding the 4x4 aspect. Still a very well built van that can be a great fit for the right person 👍 I am biased to a custom build because I've found that I can with the help of my builder create something more customized for our family's needs.

One the best setups!!! How high is the cargo area? Could you fit a mtb without taking the front wheel off or even a dirtbike? Cheers

The cargo area is tall enough for the bike with the front wheel off (that’s the way they designed it).

You did skip over the use of the toilet. I know yo commented that you use another one stashed under the bed. Which one do you like?

on their website I only see mercedes Sprinters, and pre-made vans, do they do conversions if you bring your own?

One thing I wanted to hear was with all the weight and accessories this van has what is the fuel mileage? Other than that you are a very good representative for these vans?

I really like this van but wonder if a larger port-a-potty could be fitted? The price tag is well within my RV budget and I’d be pricing it against a truck/truck camper rig. We’ll see which wins. Thanks as always, thank you for a great review.

Good question. You can't fit a larger potty in the space within the shower. You could mount one under the bed however and remove it when needed (that's what we did).

That's pretty nice. How many times did u bump your head tho while sleeping? It looks a bit snug.

Considering the 12kWh Lithium battery, $150k is quite reasonable. The biggest unknown is how reliable is the Transit itself, driving 10 years trouble-free would be nice.

I thought the size of the solar panel was laughably undersized for 1,000 12V amp hours 😂

Did you notice any problems with wind with the high roof. Is this version of the transit stable on the road? Also, were there any problems with low tunnels and garages?

We've not tested this version on the road. Of course, you have to be careful with low overhangs in any high roof van, including this one.

I love this video because it was concise and you hit all the critical areas (usability such as the soft curtain shower, the hard walls in the garage, and the flexibility gained from the removable overhead compartments). It definitely is a compact area (perhaps not in a good way). In one of your earlier videos, I think I have to agree with you - rent one (or several different models) and try it out first to see if the given RV is right for you. Great advice (especially given that these RVs are not exactly cheap).

How much price range for this kind camp van.?

Joe, your walk thru was one of the best I've seen. You high lighted most all the important aspect of the unit. Two questions : where you store the burkey and pressure cooker??

We store the Berkey on the sink with a strap that we screw into the wall and the instant pot in a storage bin in the garage area

The groove lounge has two seat belts which means total there is seating for four in this van. Is that correct?

Amazing design and functionality. It does seem a bit tight inside though. I'm good with compact, but I don't want to be touching both sides when I'm working in or enjoying one.

Definitely more open than a standard van but not quite as wide as a full size Class A or C.

Great van, thank you for the informative tour! Where you able to keep water inside that shower base with the soft-sided curtain? Does water splash outside, or drain down the curtain when it flexes outside the base as you move around? If so, what happens to it from there? Thanks!

The curtain in the shower we used was a bit longer and stayed in the basin when showering. This one was a bit short but it might be because it’s a prototype and they’re using the curtain from the Sprinter.

@@Weretherussos I'm wondering how long it takes the shower curtain to dry especially if you are using the bed there. I'm worried about mildew.

Nice to have a non-Mercedes option. Lots of reasons why I would by the Mercedes but probably a few more why I would not. The all wheel drive of the ford is no comparison to the proper 4X4 but depending on what you want to do with it... I really like the look of the storytellers, the only thing my wife doesn't like is the lack of a separate bathroom with a door. We are at that age now where a bathroom is more of a necessity then luxury. Great review as always Joe.

In addition to the Ford factory AWD option, you Ford also offers a proper 4x4 with manual transfer case. The 4x4 conversion is done by Quigley, but your van arrives from the Ford dealer with the 4x4 conversion already done. Quigley is a better option for those of us who want "true" 4x4. Hopefully, Storyteller coverts Quigley/Ford vans as well. I don't see why they wouldn't.

They do not. Only high roof sprinter and high roof transit.

Something about that shower doesn't feel right. It's a cool feature but the space is still wasted even when it's not in use. Maybe if they made the 'box' higher so it can be used as counter space? Not sure how you would get into the bed without the step though.

You have lots of experience with a variety of rigs - do you like this one? Do you think it's well built? Do you think it's a good value, relative to that other rigs are out there (the Revel, for example)? It's not a true off-roader, no, but it won't do any less than the competition, right (mostly Promaster and Mercedes chassis built vans)? I do like the idea of having a more open feeling van. I will look at the Mercedes versions of the van to see whether there is more visibility out of them, in terms of windows. If you have a feel for that, please say. Thanks for doing this video.

Hi Rebecca - yes we like this van quite a bit and all of the Storytellers are very well built. It’s a great company as well and if you’re serious about purchasing one, I’d suggest going and looking at the Revel vs these to see how they compare.

I would like to know more about the AWD capabilities of this Ford, e.g. has it go a low range, central lock differential, some ascent/descent programs, etc.. And how it copes of road with the weight and height of the build. MPG important too.

Awd doesn’t have a transfer case so no low range. This isn’t meant for off roading - more snow/ice, mud, etc

Now that you've had a good taste of "van life," do you think you'll get one or do you prefer your camper truck? What's next on your traveling agenda? I love all of your videos and I bet your Mom is still smiling!!! What a great couple you are! Stay safe!

We love the van and prefer the Ford chassis. The van and truck as two completely different animals and we love both for different reasons.
