This video is not sponsored, I am reviewing this suitcase because I simply love it and the brand and want to share my menswear travel hacks with you all.
I have traveled with the Away Bigger Carry-On suitcase throughout 2022, across 6 countries. After taking it on aeroplanes, trains, and in taxis, through most weather climates (inc London rain LOL), I'm sharing my thoughts and opinions on this highly acclaimed suitcase.

What we make
Quite simply: the perfect suitcase. Developed from hundreds of travel stories from friends and seatmates, and designed for the way people actually travel. We don’t make “smart” luggage, we make thoughtful luggage-featuring unbreakable shells, interior compartments, and built-in USB chargers-using the best materials in the world. The perfect carry-on, sized up. Unbreakable, thoughtfully designed, and guaranteed for life. Made to fit the sizers of major US airlines, ideal for those flying on big planes and/or with extra outfits.
Start strong
Inside: two compartments, one designed for clothes, the other for shoes, toiletries, and other hard objects. Outside: an impenetrable shell that bends under pressure, never breaks.
Smooth ride
Premium Hinomoto wheels rotate 360° for a perfect roll every time.
Scratch resistant
Scratch resistant
The matte textured surface deflects scuffs and scrapes along the way.

Excellent video, great videography and voice over work and a very thorough review covering all aspects of the product, warranty cover, price, features and personal experiences with the item. As a result I am now seriously considering purchasing the travel case, not actually as a travel case, but instead as a carry case for my Sound and Lighting engineering equipment. I am currently using another cheap carry on luggage case, which despite doing the job, it's not the best solution, is only a material case rather than a hard body case and lacks the security features and other benefits such as the USB charging bank which for me would be exceptionally beneficial for charging my phone, tablet and vape to and from live events. The packing cubes would definitely be beneficial for packing items safely and securely as well as keeping them packed so that I know where everything is and can access the right items easily. My current case contains a large number of items as a professional sound and lighting engineer at the top of my industry, including spare cables, microphones, connectors and adaptors, testers (for sound level and cable testers/multi meter) headphones, tape and pens, vinyl styli, soldering equipment, replacement connectors, headphone amplifier etc. All of this takes up a fair amount of space and has a rather high combined value so the polycarbonate shell and TSA approved locking system would go a long way to put my mind at rest and give me peace of mind when I leave the case unattended or in my home venue (where I am head engineer) as although it is left somewhere where it is neither obvious nor easily accessible, it is possible for someone enterprising enough to access it and potentially steal the contents, so security features would be amazingly helpful. The four wheels look like they would make transporting the case (which can be very heavy when it's fully laden) to and from venues. The compression/section securing features would go a long way to ensure that the contents is safely stored without moving around inside the case or damaging other items. Although the price is quite steep, the lifetime warranty and quick repair turnaround does give me additional peace of mind, especially considering things like wheels and zips which historically are the first things to go on this type of product. The fact that the price includes the packing cubes and the USB charging bank does also help me to overlook the high cost. The handle looks like it's sturdy enough to handle everything, even with the case fully laden (all of that equipment weighs a fair amount so I need to know that the handle and wheels will be able to handle it regardless of the journey time, and knowing all my equipment will be safe, especially for the likes of tour engineering where I might be on the road for several weeks, with the case stored alongside band equipment and instruments. If I do go ahead and purchase one, I will go ahead and let you know my experiences with the case and if it is suitable as a tech transport case. Thank you again for the review, it was very helpful indeed!

Thanks Kommander, glad you liked it - Pelican do a carry-on sized tech / flight cases that might also be worth looking at. Also, just to note the Away suitcase itself is now £285 with the battery I believe, I may have got it cheaper a year ago as I remember the cubes (including the shoe cube) were around £60 at the time.

Hey Dan, do you have an update on checking this bag now that you've flown in Thailand and Europe again?

Hi Zack, I've actually not beeing using this suitcase since the last trip on this review. For the last three months I have been using the Away Medium Flex as my main suitcase which I have been checking. Checked luggage has been absolutely fine in Thailand and every european country I have flown to this summer. I will will release a full review on the Away Medium as a checked bag int he coming weeks. RE carry on in Thailand. This is mostly fine, the aircraft for internal flights was the same as a EasyJet, Airbus A320-200. You can bring both underseat and overhead carry-on.

Have you used this on Ryanair ? Have they asked you to check it in. I mainly fly Ryanair and Aer Lingus and am not sure if it’s too big as a carry on ☺️

Hi Naomi, I've used this with EasyJet, WizzAir and on a small BA CityFlyer plane with zero issues. Haven't tried RyanAir or Aer Lingus.

Hi Sam, Not as yet, I have taken this around Europe on the smaller aircraft, and long haul on the larger aircraft - it fits all overhead bins I have tried. I am taking it to Thailand in a few weeks, I will get a small internal flight from Phuket to Bangkok in May and I think I will probably have to check it for that. I'll be putting an update out about that in my Bangkok travel vlog when I release that towards the end of May. Thanks Dan

I am flying with Emirates in a few weeks and looks like I will need to check it as doesn't state if I can take underseat and trolley carry-on. So I think a follow up video will be due as i'm going to a lot of destinations in the coming 3 months. Thanks

  • @danhogston

Hi, no I haven't but size wise it fits in any overhead locker, it's just going to be how strict the airline staff are. Zero problems with Wizz Air who I expected might stop me, but have been fine on both occasions, so KLM should be ok.

  • @danhogston

No issues at all with British Airways, EasyJet, WizzAir, or Virgin Atlantic. I will be taking it to Thailand and around Italy throughout from April - June and will likely do a follow-up as a what I packed style video, but will certainly update if any issues using as a Carry On.

@@danhogston I fly Swiss Air and I get the impression they may be strict. I’m hoping the new backpack will supplement my regular enough. I’ll see how the regular fits in their sizing cage so I’ll use the bigger one next time if it looks like it will fit. I think it should but not willing to chance it. I have one checkin allowed but layover I’d short and a checkin will never make it to the next plane intime. Thanks again for your excellent report and follow ups.
