"Away All Boats" (1956) - Complete WW2 Navy Warship Combat Drama

A vivid portrayal of the officers and sailors of the fictional amphibious transport USS Belinda in the Pacific of World War II - Based on the 1953 novel also titled "Away All Boats" by Kenneth M. Dodson. Dodson served on the USS Pierce (APA-50) in World War II and used his experiences there as a guide for his novel.
Jebediah S. Hawks (Jeff Chandler) is in charge of USS Belinda, an attack transport readying itself to take the war to the Japanese in the Pacific. Hawks whips his crew into shape, intentionally becoming a martinet to ensure the frustrations of his rookie crew center on him, forging them into a concentrated unit.
Also featuring a young Clint Eastwood as "Corpsman." His role is a brief speaking one (with one line of dialog spoken by another actor), as a Navy medical corpsman assisting the ship's captain after he is severely wounded while trying to save his ship.
Originally released on August 16, 1956.

I'm a history buff (and ex-Navy) and this is an incredibly well produced and accurate depiction of what WW2 was all about in the Pacific. As we said in the Navy "well done". ☮

I agree. I served on USS Bexar APA-237 from 1967 to 1968. I have watched this movie several times. CWO4 USN Ret.
After watching this movie about three times now, I finally decided that it's about men and those men who command and those men who follow the commander. Neither one is more important than the other, without order. There's no unity on a battleship.

Jeff Chandler in 3 of my favorite WW2 movies - Away All Boats, Merrill's Marauders, Red Ball Express - films with great drama, compelling stories, and excellent character building & supporting cast, plus outstanding music.
An excellent movie, featuring the late - Jeff Chandler, on the United States Navy( USN) , and, the Officers, Sailors, and MARDET ( Marine Detachment) ,on board the Assault Personnel Docks ( APDs) , and, other Troop Ships of both World War II and the Korean War. 🇺🇲🇺🇸🪖🎖️🏅⚓💣💥🔥🛡️🗡️⚓🚢🇺🇸🇺🇲

I've watched this movie a number of times. I love the part with the " patch." My father was on a fast attack troop ship in WWII. He saw horrible stuff. Horrible.
I served aboard the USS Montrose LPA 212 and the USS Pickaway LPA 222 in the late 1960s.
The film has passed for 68 years The striking thing is that the actors at that time were very elegant and professional in portraying the characters In fact they were brilliant Thanks great movie ♥️🇩🇿

To me this war movie is extra special to me because I think this was one of Jeff Chandler's best roles and it was so sad when he died in it. He was a great actor who really sadly died so young.

This movie was filmed in 1956. He died in 1961 after his second surgery for a back injury suffered during the filming of Merrill’s Marauders.

My Dad flew a navy wildcat and got his order to deploy to the south pacific and on that day they dropped THE bomb and he was spared any combat duty. He would joke that they surrendered because they heard HE was coming!

My father and my uncle both served in the Navy for 24 years. This movie reflected the worst lack of Leadership I would ever imagine on a Naval vessel. I say again. It is a terrible movie!!!

@@richardsmith9609 I respect your opinion if you are truly who you say you are. This movie was made for entertainment. If there was as many screw up as in this movie we would be in trouble. The problem is we’re already in trouble . We have been sold out to the Chinese communist by our politicians.
