From the way it sounds, I look at is as an exciter, a saturation, a polish, not as a resort for fixing problems in a mix, but more so enhancing one from a mastering perspective.
I always trust a man who drinks his coffee without sugar.
I was so reliefed, when you have said: "Is it just me, or the sound in a background has not altered".. during the intro I was like.. damn there is something wrong with my hearing. :D
“It doesn’t say WHICH award they won” Now you’re catching on 😉
I really enjoyed that you commended them for the dry/wet knob. Love your humor, glad I just found you!
"it's more on the Harry Potter side of things....." i need more plugin descriptions like this!!! LMFAO
Thanks for promoting the unknown talents of audio producing and the idea that you can be as good as the best:)
Always love your vids, I've been mixing for a long time and think I still want this Sugar for those quick fix cheat instances. Thanks for introducing it to me.
its magical honestly
man i really trust you 100% ... i've tested this plugin yesterday and i thought about you making a video about it and here is it ... mostly everything you said I'm with you in it. this plugin doing things that i couldn't see or understand EQing Saturation etc.. and i see many plugins out there doing the same they use the very basic things like eq, compression, Saturation hiding it in interface calling it magic .... if anyone reading i suggest you learn the basic it will help you more
This Plug is Not designed for sound engineers. It is designed for musicians who want to “shape” the sound before mixing.

great review. thank you for your work! Started producing last year and youre the most authentic guy i found regarding the audio field. Keep it up!
So before I watch the whole thing.... is it just a “fancy” multiband dynamic processor with some macros? Like Fabfilter Saturn?

You are so right- you do deserve an award for your shoe lacing!
What do you think of toneboosters plugins
The more people use this plug-in, the better it is for recording artists that don't want to sound like everyone else. We already see this happening with the sound of "modern vocals" where everyone uses the same plugins for pitch correction and harmony generation. I hate to say this, but what was once known as the science of recording engineering has become even more formulated in its application than the ear candy that has been produced by the record industry itself. The name of the plug-in isn't even ironic - it's iconic of the age in which we live.
Is this for your mastering chain? Which spot does it occupy? I use 2 eqs, 2 multi-band compressors (often), and a limiter. Not sure where this would fit.
So what mixing plug-ins you recommend
I like how you break the things down to its essence .... keep on doing the good work ... thank you
Love the reviews... Number 1 channel for honesty.
The True Iron plugin you showed us last week was friggin awesome!! I heard of it because Lewin on Garage Band and Beyond! And he got it from you! You have more influence than you know young man!!
When you raise the wet inject, it looks exactly like the master aid 1 preset on FL Studio's Maximus. Maximus also has the option for saturation as well. I'm pretty sure this is Maximus with a different GUI.

@@Whiteseastudio I also want to thank you because of your love for analog hardware, your channel made me appreciate that subtle distinction from digital and try to replicate it with my plugins (some of them you recommended it like True Iron). Now Im planning to buy some pultec-style hardware eq when I can.
I picked it up. Sometimes I work with clients that prompt me to come up with solutions that get them off my desk faster. If I can save $150 in aggravation, then the plug pays for itself immediately.
An award winning engineer is just a talented person who has been lucky enough to be in the right spot at the right time. Very good social skills help too :-) As for the plug-in, well AI is taking over it seems.
Just give this guy an award already!

If people insist on doing home mixing and mastering then it's good they made something to simplify the process just so we don't have to listen to so many shiity mixed and mastered tracks

You must be a super gifted and over talented (maybe Award-winning?) audio engineer to consider that beginners are only kids in need of toys who will let them think they will be able to reach your immense skills using them.

Great Video I just Subscribed, good review, the plug-in is the best i have seen so far, it sounds like actual hardware gear
I also prefer my coffee with no sugar and ilok's make me sad. So perhaps I'll keep my jazz sugar free. Keep up the good work Wytse.
Before you even pressed play it should be painfully obvious, that the heart of this is simply a multiband compressor. For most people using presets and just moving knobs until they get the sound they are looking for it's a good thing. Pro users already have full featured multiband compression but you have a better understanding of what you are doing to get good results. These types of plugins are great for most home users. I would say for lots of home engineer/producers give it a try.
does anyone have any comprehensive look through's in what sugar is doing in the low end ? It seems that there is multiband compression going on and its almost visualized as well. How is sugar treating the low end when its being enhanced and how can the dynamic process alone be replicated ?
I guess another thing is that you have to question. Is the plugin meant for acoustic music, EDM or more inbetween like hip-hop. Since using huge amounts compression would be often done in EDM which would make this tool more fitting there as it uses a lot of compression and saturation techniques.
Do you need to use protection with this product?
Hola, long shot but where did you get your jumper from in this video? lol
please use wet inject for that ultimate analog feel..
I was like “Sandstorm by Darude AGAIN????” But then you hit WETINJECT and it was like the first time I’d heard it. Bravo.
LOLed SO HARD at your reaction around 7:30 into the vid.
Great evaluation Wytse! Crystal clear as always!
I like what it did in the low-end, and the saturation was nice, but I don’t need it.
The MS mode is kinda cool, adding some sparkle to just the side channel and a little bottom to only the Mid

On a full mix
best way of looking at this plugin is a multiband parallel processor. Basically combining all the parallel processing (compression, saturation, eq, etc.) you might do to a mix, and making this available for different bands. Maybe the manufacturer could've done a better job explaining this plugin, but I understand this was intended for use toward the end of your mix process or at the beginning of your mastering stage. If you've ever did rear bus parallel compression on a mix, you can hear this plugin doing similar things - but has the flexibility to do it for a particular band. This plugin might not be for everybody, but it definitely has a purpose.
Another entertaining video, we love you you’re nuts! I also don’t take sugar in my coffee, so I don’t think I’ll be buying this plug-in. Thanks again for the insight.
Plugin producers are all on this "one for all"- train recently. That doesn´t have to be a bad thing.... well a side by side comparison between at least some of this "one for all" pluggies would be nice! But you are right: to give all your trust and confidence to one of this "one for all" things right from the beginning, will possibly stand in the way of learning mixing in it´s debth and "realness", as you don´t know exactly what you´re doing.... It´s a double-edged sword. I do believe to some extend that you can save some time when you´re really confident with this pluggie because you use it very often and know what to expect when dialing around with it. On the other side you can not finetune certain frequencies for example. When you have to do this anyways, you loose time.
It's a multi band compressor and exciter?
another great vidoe! love your video mate
What kind of Vitamin by Waves is this?
I found the frequency range that my ears really like and its right where that guitar solo sits.
How does it sound for vocals?
glad my homes send me to check this channel, great content here

It's not... Saturn has more bands, more saturation types, eqs, envelope followers, lfo... Duh... U get my point 😅
anybody know if this works with fl studio
I wouldn't worry about new engineers using this, to be honest. Because sugar gives you a broad control over multiple plugins and sooner or later, if they're truly serious about their work, they would want greater control over their mixes. Sugar would be good if it was marketed for beginners and hobbyists like me who just want to get a song out there. But I can also see it being used by professionals when time is a limiting factor.
Were you running this plugin through the master channel? I could hear the effect on your voice
@Whiteseastudio
5 жыл бұрын
That's probably from my lav picking up the sound from the speakers.
The point at 13:30 is exactly what I thought and why I didn't wanted to use plugins like this when I started : A good/excellent engineer can make everything sound as he wants with what he have at his disposable. Depending of such tools that don't show you what you are doing. Will make you struggle a lot if you face any scenarios where you won't have that tool with you (which is very likely to happen).
9:24 i started laughing because you did started making the same movements with your Head, like Fab Dupond in the Promotion Video :-D :-D
What up could you do a review on the antelope pure2 master clock interface
any cracks available?
(Starts typing comment) 9:51 *(backspaces quickly)*
Due to the sheer confusion of how and what the plug in does (while also seemingly impressing this guy on the sound) I'm definitely going to look into it. He spent waaaaay too much time shitting on the plug in for this episode though. Almost...ALMOST like it was insulting him as an engineer. LoL Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go doooooown...
It kinda just looks like a better version of infected mushroom pusher
got it last year and i used it like twice, nice interface but the sound cracks fast , harmonics are weak...
**
A good honest review, thanks
it does magic
Kinda reminds me of Waves Greg Wills Mix Centric, with less control - I'm not sure what it's doing under the hood, but it does add a something nice. It's almost that is corrects your spectral balance to a nice weighting, pink noise ish. I use BX Dynamic Spectrum Mapper to do similar.
The video quality is really good, what camera are you using ?
@Whiteseastudio
5 жыл бұрын
I use a Sony A5100 and a Sony FDR-AX100
I think, that idea of this plugin is almost the same as in scheps parallel particles
'Sandstorm' sounds different these days 😁
Seems to be a simple dynamic 4-band EQ limited to 2 presets per band plus compressor.
It is a good plugin for a musician that has to do some production, as it is my case. I have used only at the master channel so far, because it consumes a lot of processing power, but I like the results!
What i would like is a plug similar to this, where there is a shortcut to commonplace mastering stuffs, but after you have dragged your soundgoodifier to the good point, you should be able to expand the plug-in and see all the individual parameters it has changed as well as fine tune every single one of them on their own. That way you save lots of time without loosing any detail. Edit: That being said, I'm a composer and a musician first, so I'm not (yet at least) very knowledgable when it comes to mixing and mastering.

Arvid Olson, get into it! For what it is worth, you just described most of FabFilters plugins. They let you see your sound and your changes in real time, and you can fine tune whenever needed... but those options aren’t filling your screen when you don’t. If you learn with plugins that feed your creative side rather than your science mind, a musician/composer can quickly make a brilliant amateur sound engineer.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I was getting at. Going through the whole process a few times has helped me better understand a sound engineer’s job, and allows to to have far more productive communications with them. I primarily do voiceover, which is relatively easy, but nothing has helped me learn how to communicate with the folks I send my recordings off to like learning how to mix music and apply plugins.
yo dutchie how come every video i watch you say and this time im going to use a track from darude called sandstorm lol and is it me or every time i hear sand storm it sounds like a different track? how many fucking versions of sand storm did they do?
Does it 'wet inject' it's tooltips?
It's basically Scheps Parallel Particles from Waves.
I tried it and tried to push it. There was quickly a huge need for CPU when used on several tracks as proposed in the presentation video. It could be useful but I think its use is not for everything.
I like your point of view. No a piece of equipment or a plugin doesn't make the difference.
They sent it to you cause you are the g.o.a.t. when it comes to checking out plugins and hardware with a real analysis and tru feedback on these products, hence the cool ass quote "SNAKE OIL" You are very much appreciated!
I downloaded the demo and set up an Ilok acount. Was quite excited. Set it up on the stereo out Logic Pro X. Either I am an astonishing producer or its meant for kiddies who have no idea. I remember back in the day when the first Aural exciters came out how we used them on everything. We dont do that any more. Learn how to use eq and compression and save your money. However it is free for 30 days so give it a go and use it to hone your real skills by trying to match the effects using individual compression eq and saturation plug ins X
You are right by saying ,will the new Engineers exercute the same process when they are put before a Console? I think it is a good plugin ,but know your Engineering too to fully make use of its aim of quick turn around work results.

Hi can you review brainworx plugins like the SSL channelstrip emulation or the nieve emulation, and give your opinion on the TMT technology ?
I agree with your feedback man :)
Isn’t saturation a form of compression?
:-B It's "exciter dust" for those who don't know how to use compressors, EQs, and a sprinklings of anti-phase to make it all sparkle. Of course, you could always just mix the track until it sounds the way you want. Random silly stuff :-B Love ya, XXX
I like it, its simple and fast, good plugin for producers rather than mixing engineers.
So what this plugin shows me is divide my parametric EQ into 4 sections and apply. I feel so much smarts now!
