Avril has done country songs, when she was a child she was part of a country album called The Quinte Spirit and sang "Temple of Life", "Touch the sky" and "Two Rivers", also covered "You Were Mine" as a child. She can do it no question about it, she has a great voice! Check those songs out though, they are all great!

The greatest compliment to this incredible performance by Avril is the fact that Shania is dancing and singing along. To get someone excited about and singing along to a song that they wrote is impressive.

If you listen to some pop-punk they do have a certain twang to their voice they use it differently than country singers, Hayley Williams from Paramore is from TN and in Decode when she sings “how did we get here” you can hear it

Avril has the country music background but her development as an artist and herself lead her to Pop Rock and Pop Punk which brought her much more recognition cause she can express herself much more freely. This song she recorded also when she was a teenager. In the country world she would probably feel stuck at the style and the kind of lyrics, and Avril likes to take risks and push herself to experiment new things. Thats how she made her name and become so authentic artist as we can see today. Her performance in ACM was an honor to her background and Shania was just thrilled to see how she can easily do it, it is so convincing. Avril is a true artist.

It’s so funny when people say this. Avril grew up singing country music. Her entire life she sang country songs. Then she was signed to a record label and they changed her entire image and sound. But make no mistakes about it, she is a natural country singer. That is why her voice fits so perfectly with this style. All the country twang and runs that she does with her voice is from the years she spent singing this style of music

I saw the entire show live on TV when it aired. If you impressed Shania with a cover like this, then you've nailed it. Avril and Shania have been good friends for a while now. I hope the rumors of Avril going country in the not too distant future are true. Her and Shania should do a duet!

@@michaeldean2503 Agreed! Saw an article in the news today that said Avril posted to her Instragram about this show, Shania Twain, and musing about going the Country route herself. If she actually follows through, she'd no doubt be accepted. The Country community seemed very accepting to her performance and, for the most part, have been very accepting to other artists in the past as well. Darius Rucker has to be one of the most successful crossover artists that I can think of to date (from Pop Rock/R&B to Country).

@@jeffolefson9415 I think she does sing slightly differently in the different genres. It all depends on what kind of sound you like, or indeed if you like them all. In my opinion, her voice sounds a bit more "brash" in her pop genre and a lot less so in her cover of Adele's "Hello", for example.
