Avoid this MENTAL error from the baseline
Спорт
There are two main types of errors. Mental errors, and physical errors. Physical errors are understandable. Mental errors are inexcusable.
One of the killer mental errors is missing in the net from behind the baseline. In this video I share my best advice for choosing a target to avoid the net, while also throwing in a few technical tips for lifting the ball above the net.

Something really cool in the way you transmit and express ideas and info on tennis . I've watched pretty much all the KZread tennis channels and you have a balance and casualness and relaxed but convincing style. 👍⚡ Keeping that pro vibe of yourself but speaking for everyone! Clarity! Thanks a lot for the content!
For as accomplished as you have been in your career, you recommend the drop-hit for self practice. That’s how I taught myself topspin, just like you dropped and brushed up on the back of the ball. I did it repeatedly with hoppers of balls until the swing through the “strike zone” was absolutely grooved. Then, when I practiced or played against a moving ball, I only needed to think of my feet keeping their distance to the side of the ball to produce that same strike zone every time. I really like how you break down the technical so cleanly and simply to see and understand. Thank you for sharing and for keeping things simple and real.
Stokke trying to make us the tennis player he wanted to be when he was competing at the US Open 🔥🔥 thanks for all the love coach!!

I really like your approach. The way you say it’s inexcusable sort of changes my whole frame of mind. thank you, I needed to hear that.
Thanks a million..... Sadly i can put it all to practice only after the Monsoon ends here in Goa, India. Thanks again.
Brilliant advice
Missing into the net from behind the baseline often happens due to pressure when you are trying for more net clearance and don’t hit through the ball.
Never heard anyone frame it this way--great tip!
I live in Japan and have been playing tennis for just over three years now. My wife and her tennis friends finally convinced me to join them. Since my Japanese is far from fluent, I've relied on KZread to get me this far (the people with whom I play often compliment me on my progress, and more and more often, I kick their butts, especially in the past month or so). Here's my point--I have watched dozens and dozens of KZread tennis channels and coaches, and likely several thousand videos. I found your channel only recently, and in my opinion, you are surely at the top of the pyramid. I've taken in more "useful" information from you in a single month than I have from all those previous channels, coaches, and videos combined. And yes, I am absolutely serious! I even opened an Instagram account, so I could follow you there. I added your podcast too. Yours is the only Instagram channel and the only pod I tune in to (at least for tennis). I hope to see your numbers swell--as long as my opponents remain ignorant of you (their English is even worse than my Japanese). I wish you well, and I sincerely thank you...

@@StokkeTennis , you might get a laugh out of this, and it will definitely make you feel younger--I'm almost 74 yoa and play only doubles (outside of a quick match against my 51 year old wife; she always wins, but I did get a draw not too long ago). So, obviously, I'd like to see a bit more on the subject of doubles... thx!

Thanks Stokke, can u give us some mental tips on how we can avoid the net when we approach somewhere near the service line
Excellent explanation Thanks
This was an excellent video my friend, I use a circle steel rim I found and I practice hitting through the meddle of the circle and it’s a fun game. I love your coaching style my friend. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge of the game with us Coach.
This video was a godsend for me. It's one thing to drill hitting the ball higher and with more topspin, but I'm embarassed to admit that it never occured to me to aim higher than my intended target on all baseline groundstrokes. Instead of my moments of inconsistency landing balls in the net like before, they turn into hotshots now, and the "normal" shots aimed higher are still effective. You turned my inconsistency into an actual tool on the court 😂

I've tried to play tennis for many years, and I have fed myself balls from the baseline for hours at a time, and I still cannot get any appreciable amount of topspin no matter what I try. "Fortunately" also I have little pace so my balls can still drop in. Rarely hit into the net.
Very good instructional vid.

Thanks so much for your explanation! It's a great extension of your earlier content, including the podcast with Scott Fawcett. But the visual and your personal example make it stick that much more. Thanks. I don't know my range but as a 4.0 I bet it's 6 feet plus! Will try to find it.
@StokkeTennis

It’s at least that. I’d aim 4 feet over the net from behind the baseline and you’ll likely never miss in the net. Don’t get greedy!
The voice of the truth...especially on doubles, your only purpose from behind is to keep the ball in play for your volley partner...thank you, it looks so simple and obvious that I'm embarrassed about all my years of hitting constantly in the net, ha, ha...good luck with your channel
Thanks Stokke - after watching this, I have a feeling that my problem might be technical all the way to the grip, I perhaps have too extreme of a forehand grip and topspinning it too much it doesn't cross. Thanks!

Amazing! Welcome!
If you never done this its really hard to mentally stay disciplined and hit aggressive with margin like you’re telling us to do for a whole match. I have a pretty flat stroke i can blast some fun winners with it but obviously i am not good enough to hit that over and over again. I played a match this weekend where i would just lose games by hitting multiple errors in the net. I quickly regrouped but there’s always this little voice that tells you now take on this very low percentage ball down the line.

It's always tempting...once you get the mental discipline to stick to your plan you go up a big level!
I have learned to serve faster than actually controlling my forehand and backhand. I have a baseball background, which might help. Im not exactly sure how to hit the ball hard with forehand and keep it in mid range height without lining the ball. Any suggestions? I have been learning along the way with my daughter, who made the junior high team.Thanks in advance!
Brilliant info and tips without too much plap and nonsense small talk!!

I’ve never been great at small talk 😂
Thanks for the video. When playing doubles, especially on return of serve, how do you adjust your target range over the net compared to singles? Or suppose in singles you have to hit a passing shot and are trying to dip it low?
@StokkeTennis
Ай бұрын
Of course you want to keep the ball a little lower at times, but not at the risk of missing in the net. So if you have great control, aim lower. If you don't, aim higher and use variance to your advantage!

Thoughts on dropshot, lob, repeat/rush net strategy? Drop shot too inconsistent at lower levels? Lobs lead to too many smashes?

@@StokkeTennis awesome, thank you so much. Inspiration for this strategy is djokovic us open circa 07/08, using it to beat players who were at that point better than him. Basically, if I can't match my opponents pace, maybe I could refuse to play that heavy baseline style altogether and try to out play them this way. Looking forward to the video! Subbed and liked!

Is it?
Tennis points are not won by pushing tentative balls over the net to the middle of the court. Hint: That’s where every player practices.
