Sometimes I watch your videos 3 or 4 times to burn them in my memory. I'm not trying to stroke your ego, I'm being very serious when I tell you that your instructing style, subject knowledge, and editing is ON POINT! I couldn't tell you how many times I've spoken out loud your diddies like "brake-brake-brake" or "WAIT, WAIT,... THROTTLE". Yes I only have a cruiser, but that doesn't make it any easier. For one, I'm a beginner, for two body position and line selection is much more important because I'm limited as far as my lean angle is concerned. I've already scraped my floorboard because I didn't take away enough lean angle.

Hi Greg, I am a 75 year old rider. I started riding on the dirt at 13. Later in life I retired as a motor officer from Oakland, CA PD. Currently, my go to daily motor is a BMW 1250 RT. I found you so enthralling entertaining in this video I didn't realized you had back ground music until 16 plus minutes into it. Your work as a motor instructor is a valuable asset to the riding community. Keep up the good work! Greg Smith, Sacramento

Very cool. I am in Richmond, Ca. Seriously looking into becoming an instructor. I got to train with SFPD motors on Treasure Island last year. Hope to see you on the road!
You said you enjoy teaching the most out of all the things you've done (in ur live Q&A) and you can tell watching this how much you enjoy conveying information in an easily digestible way for riders safety and knowledge. Great vid thanks man!

Greg, I think this is one of your best videos! You totally engaged me as an audience member, so just shows you're a great teacher. And when you said that you will start to notice what others are doing and how they are not doing it efficiently and correctly I was nodding my head in agreement (as I've experienced this myself), even though I consider myself a novice rider. 10 out of 10! And thanks again.
Favourite part of video is slow motion for adding throttle when exiting the corner 😄😄

20yrs of riding and you just took alllll the little lessons I've been taught and made it super straight forward and none-oppinionated. Thank you!
I don't often comment on KZread videos but you are a blessing man! I am 28 and recently started my motorbike journey ob cb125r and I live in the UK. With it being winter and all, every single blind corner that I take was pretty much "hope I'll make it out alive" with constant rain and sun going down at 4pm, commuting is terrible and I don't own a car. I've been watching your videos so this one popped up on my feed and completely changed my perspective to cornering as well as using the brakes. Today doing one of the most daunting corners I go through everyday, which is literally a downhill 100 degree turn to the right, under heavy rain, it felt like a bliss. I am much more confident, relaxed and aware. On top of being genuinely funny, your concise relay of information and putting out there for all of us to learn so selflessly, you ARE a life saver. I am not exaggerating. If I am making it alive back home to my son everyday, it is partially thanks to you.

Wow I feel you. Weird coincidence but I also just started biking (36yo) on CB650R and sometimes I feel insecure going into blind corners. These tips are game changing for me!
I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your videos. I have been riding for 50+ years, I like to keep a tape of your tips running through my head while I ride. My favorite so far was to train myself to be equally comfortable pushing or pulling to counter steer. Thank YOU for all you do for the motorcycle community.

Same here on the Years Riding. 50Yrs this Year. I never think I know it all, as soon as you do that, you Stop Learning.
Hey man, I follow you for so long, that those instructions (and many others) are hardwired on my brain. In fact, I used to repeat your "mantras" as I was riding. I could hear you talking. Now, those instructions are more natural to me, because I shut the hell up and practice. I'm a much better rider because of your work. So, thank you.

Hi Greg. It has become a personal tradition over the last couple of years to watch your videos before the "riding season" starts again. They mentally prepare me for the street after winter. Thank you very much for keeping up your videos. Warm regards from Belgium
Great video Greg. The technical explanation was humorous and really well explained. You are a master at explaining technique in an easy to understand and memorable way. I so often hear your voice when I’m out there trying to apply the theory to my riding. Thank you!
Thank you for the advices!! Super useful!! Wish you happy new year🎉
Fantastic video, again! There are not enough videos out there teaching good cornering techniques and instructors often do not go into enough detail for the standard bike test. Only thing to add is that each bike is different on how it corners so practice these techniques but apply them and take time to get to know which bike you are on! MotoJitsu showing it is not just practice but the right practice that matters!
Great video! I appreciate your work and effort. As you mentioned, I’ll watch this a couple of times. Happy new year!
Great start to the New Year with even great insights and tips. Happy New Year Greg. Keep up your great service to the community.
Excellent training video. What I paraphrased below if I understood you correctly is what resonated with me to take corners more safely. Knowing when to accelerate and apply throttle is key while reducing lean angle. You have to have patience mid corner.....Wait....I'm still leaned over but now I'm pointed towards the exit and now if I want to accelerate hard I can do so while simultaneously reducing lean angle and bike is raised up as I'm watching the exit. You cannot take away the lean angle until the bike is pointed to where you want to go. Lifesaving information contained in this video.
I use to do exactly what you mentioned in the video. Add lean angle and accelerate at the same time. Now I know that I will lose my front end and have a low side. I will only accelerate when I am reducing my lean moving forward. Thanks a ton for the video. Cheers. 😊
Happy holidays Bro. Really valid point there about observing other riders. Nice to hear you go over this stuff again. A new twist helps it to sink in. Peace to you and yours from Devon, England.

Lots of good advice imho. Knowing your limits of skill has served me well for 50 years. As I've got old a fact of life as with decrepitude is your reactions slow down. So I have adjust my riding to meet those facts. When young I did MX and trials . Now I'd be rubbish.
Great sermon! Trailbrake is must for fast riding or unfamiliar roads!

Excellent video. Really makes my past couple years of riding click. I’ve wiped out (lowsided) a couple times, I never knew why, but the under loading of the front tire makes a lot of sense now. Also really drives home the point of trusting your front tires. As long as your inputs are smooth and controlled, your front will load up and can take a lot more than you think. I absolutely brake and release before turning in, so I have to work on trusting my front tire (trail braking) and maintaining smooth throttle inputs through the turn. I have a lot to learn and focus on now, thanks. Edit: you also got me in the habit of covering the front brake and being confident of the bike’s ability to brake mid turn. As long as your inputs are smooth (dimmer light switch, not off on).

I just found your page, thank you. Although I've rode other bikes in the past, the majority of my riding is on a fatboy or Breakout. I am buying my first adv bike next week, a 2019 KTM 790 Adv r. Not to worry. Unlike the stereotype, I do practice slow and higher speeds, and take a least one course a year. This year I have 3 lined up. I am not sure if it's midlife or finally having the income I am 45 and I doing a track class, an adventure class (although I am in FL so not sure how technical), but first an advance refresher.
Thank You for significant help !

2:19 Thank you for this video! I feel justified for my train of thought lol. I had a debate with my instructor in the endorsement class. They wanted us to look so far ahead through the corner that we were riding with our helmets facing 90° from where our front tires was pointing. I was trying to explain to them that it was impractical to look where I wanted to be in 10-15sec going 20mph. Focus on the path, not the destination.

I’ve been riding for 40 years…and was getting ready to give it up due to the heebie-jeebies I have always felt due to uncomfortable changes in suspension geometry in turns that have been occurring because I was trained to never touch the brakes or throttle in a turn….your videos, especially this one, have changed my riding style, my confidence, my understanding, and have increased my enjoyment of riding so much that at 60 yrs old- it all feels like I’m 20 again. Everything feels smoother, more in control, no heebie-jeebies and I’m moving much faster through corners. The biggest plus of all? I am safer on the road. Thank you.
Good video! I learned a thing or two. At least I now recognize in a formal way some of the stuff I already knew just from riding experience. Understanding is nice! Your advice is obviously aimed at the sport bike rider getting his kicks in the twisties, where the techniques you describe are put to test. But even for a conservative street rider like myself, this stuff is good to know.

The bike is irrelevant…no where did I mention sport bike nor do I have one.
Patience in the corner is a good comment, so is not entering on you can’t see through at high speed and committed. Previous riding buddies did this routinely because ‘they knew the roads’. We have winding country roads with agricultural equipment, kangaroos and Chinese tourists stopping to take photos. Usually in the worst possible places. 👍🏻
The best lesson for trail braking… Thankyou!

KISS aka Barney style
To train visualising the line you want your tyres to follow, go and ride a mountain on single track. Always looking for terrain your want to ride across, and terrain you want to a solid, and MTBing quickly (and in a relatively low risk environment) teaches you to focus on the former and avoid negative target fixation on the latter.
Great Pointers. I’ll probably have to play the Video again, go Practice, rewatch the Video, go Practice as many times as it takes to become good Memory and Execution. Thanks for making this Video.
