Aviation's BIG change on YouTube in 2024

Aviation and flying content is changing on KZread. Here are examples of videos I do (and don't) watch, with some channels I think are worthing taking a look at for 2024.
This is a special end-of-year video as I reflect on the ever-evolving landscape of aviation and flying content on KZread in 2024! I take a bit of a dive deep into how KZread is changing the way we share and experience aviation adventures whether you're a seasoned aviator, an aspiring pilot, or simply an aviation enthusiast. Join the conversation, post examples of channels that you like watching, and have a very Happy New Year!

What a lovely surprise that was, particularly from aviation KZread royalty! I’ve always said that I make my videos as memories for myself in years to come and if others get enjoyment out of them then that is an absolute result, so to get such high praise from you is a privilege. Thank you again and I hope 2024 is a good one for you and your family!

Your words resonate SO well with me. I've been annoyed with exactly same clickbait video headlines and thumbnails just a couple of weeks ago. And felt ashamed that this trend of clickbaiting went to the aviation videos because clickbait is not isolated from the content. Content will degrade too. Glad to know that not only me feels the same and worried about that but someone with a much louder voice than me.

The calm, informational and entertaining tone of your channel is what attracted me to your videos, and certainly is a big part of the reason I have an interest in aviation now. It's very refreshing in a world of sensationalized video titles and fear-mongering crash analysis "content". I really respect your desire and drive to stick to the style you've developed over the past few years, even in the face of more and more people across the site turning to chasing the big view counts and large sponsorship deals from shady companies. The community you've built up is very positive and I'm excited to see what 2024 will bring!

Hi Stef, not a KZreadr, just a humble Cirrus pilot, but I also watched (and sponsored) the Pilot Bambi series from Holland to South Africa, absolutely fantastic. In terms of diversity, I also think Stevie Triesenberg makes excellent honest aviation videos, like flying her C140 from California to Osh Kosh over 5 days, but noticed you had some of her content flash up in the ‘sensational, for clicks’ category (yes she ended up flying acrobatics with Mike Goulian while at Osh Kosh but, then again, wouldn’t we all if we had that opportunity?!!), but most of her content is A to B style with excellent ATC comms and also documenting her avionics upgrades in older planes, which was interesting. Anyways, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, and keep on doing what you do, it’s absolutely awesome. HNY and all the best in 2024.

Yes I enjoy Stevie's videos as well. Lots of ATC comms and on the ground content too. I didn't include her as she already has a strong following, but I definitely watch and enjoy her content. I didn't actually mean to infer any of those videos specifically were sensationalising the industry, more just wanted to show what's currently in my 'home' feed on KZread. Thanks Julian, happy new year to you too.

You made one of my favorite videos about 3 years ago. "How I fixed BAD LANDINGS in one lesson" had beautiful scenery, and an excellent lesson on landings. Several aviation channels have come and gone from my subscription list over the years because of the “clickbait” context they’ve decided to focus on. I want to see calm flights and casual conversation, maybe even just traveling, maybe topics about flying and cockpit situations, but without crash and panic. Just a MSFS wannabe flyboy (did some actual flying as a kid), and channels like yours provide stacks of inspiration for flights in the sim. Living under the training circuit for YSBK I just love the sound of Rotax and Lycoming engines overhead. Lots of real world resources for a simmer in Oz as well as massive amounts of open source & pay ware scenery. Keep doing what you do, it’s excellent!

Fantastic video Stef, I could not agree more with your messaging here, if a flight was unsensational so far as incidents or worse accidents are concerned then it was a very good flight and that is something to be celebrated on YT. Thanks for the recommendations, I was following a few already but certainly off to add some others to my list. A highlight of 2023 for me was bumping into you and chatting at Melbourne INTL airport back in February, it’s already 2024 for you guys in Aus right now, we’ll join you in the future in a few hours here in SoCal. All the best for the New Year, cheers, Fraser

Hi, stef, absolutely love your work, it’s always very well presented and filmed. Was wondering if a trip over to WA might be on the cards for 2024?. Just a thought , as some of the scenery would look amazing from the air. Keep up the awesome content, can’t wait to see what you get up to in 2024

Hey Stef, absolutely have loved your content this year and look forward to another great one! Thought I'd mention I am about to begin a very long journey of becoming an airline pilot by doing my RPL next year also in Melbourne funnily enough. Wanted to thank you for the inspiration you gave through your videos which brought me to love aviation and everything about it. Greatly appreciate your work mate as do many many others.

I completely resonate with this video. Many times, I get disappointed, looking at the title of the video, which will get your attention but the content of the video is no way near to the title. Thank you for sharing other channels I will definitely look into it and subscribe which resonates with me like this channel. Keep up the good work and a very happy New Year.

Agree 100% Sometimes I got tempted to do that and then I felt stupid. That is not the kind of viewers we want to engage anyway. I still believe that good content sells by itself, you are a good example. You will always have your "few" loyal viewers, even for the videos that don't end up in an emergency 😂

Firstly, a very Happy New Year to you Stefan. For a minute during this video I though you were going to go all vertical on us, Phew, your not!! Great video and I love that phrase about a rising tide. The content here is great and I love the honesty and simplicity of it all. I think the followers you get are true aviation people and you seem to do what you do for the love of aviation so you've aced it in my opinion. I love Short Field, I have followed him for a while and another I like is The Flying Reporter, again simple and straight forward.....

Been subscribed to Bambi for a while now, great vids. I agree Stefan, I've deleted my subscription from numerous aviation creators recently. Either they have become total shills for product only, sensationalists, or horrible role models for up-and-coming pilots. Some I've seen have given up airline careers when the job gets tough to FOCUS on social media, LOL! Keep up the positive attitude and the hard work! Happy New Year!

I totally agree with this. Its amazing the kind of tiny channels that have been appearing in my feeds as of late. Something seems a bit different with KZread's algorithm. I'm getting more of a flow of similar content as opposed to BIG content. Sure, yes, I still get BIG content, but I've been getting videos that I quite enjoy recommended with just a few hundred views or subscribers.

@@theaviator06Well, I do, for one. Sure, she is a pretty girl, but the focus of her channel is aviation. Unlike some other supposedly aviation-related channels like Gyrocopter Girl, for example. Besides, Stevie is a software engineer by profession (as am I), so I believe she knows how to work in a male-dominated business without being considered just a pretty face. I think she succeeds quite fine without over-using her gender on her videos.

Great video. I'm a student pilot. I love your videos. They're upbeat. They're informative. They always make me feel excited about flying. Not long ago, I was creating a video about my first 20 hours of flight training, and yours was the tone I had in mind. I didn't have quite the same production value, and I don't have a cool Australian accent, but I love your tone, your seriousness, your delight, your enthusiasm. Nothing melodramatic or eyeball chasing. Yours is definitely a channel worth aspiring to and emulating. Keep up the great work, and thanks for the content!

Canadian guy here, CPL of about 10 months and still trying to add ratings...you're spot on with the silly sensational content...and I simply don't get the tub thumping crap about what each person flies...there are of course stereotypes in every vocation, but when it becomes insulting to content creators, especially in aviation it's extremely tiring...great to see you promote some folks I follow and a couple I've never heard of; but as a suggestion or two @FlightChops is one of my faves and another Canadian for excellent flying fun, he's a PPL, Instrument and aerobatic rated and flies warbirds from time to time! Micke is great too!
