I've been fly fishing for 35 years now and have been guiding professionally for the last 15. I've seen, used, and abused a lot of different gear over the years. Rods, reels, lines, waders, bags...nothing is safe from the demands I put on my stuff.

I owned and fished the Aventik Zeno for almost 2yrs now. And i can say this rod is an absolute beast! Heavy, slow, but can take on monsters easy! This can take a beating, and it still keeps on going. I've caught a monster 2kg Striped Bass off New Brunswick and a 2.6kg. Mangrove Snapper in Guiuan Isl. with my Zeno (both with a streamer fly i got from Cabela's). That right there says alot of how powerful this rod is. And not to mention its very cheap too. Bought mine from Aliexpress. Can't wait to see your fishing videos with the Zeno.

I actually picked up this rod a few days ago because I wanted to try a fibreglass tenkara rod. I am always happy to see people review more affordable gear, it is so helpful for people just getting into a hobby to be able to make a good decision about entry level gear! So far I've landed a few chain pickerel on this rod and it handled them really easily. The extra backbone that you talk about in the video might hurt the casting feel a bit but it also let's this rod punch way above it's weight when it comes to fighting fish! A lot of people new to tenkara have concerns about fighting bigger fish so I think it is a real perk that this rod is a bit more forgiving in that aspect.

Those floating lines are designed to be cut to length. So it would probably cast better if you cut it down equal to length of rod. Also, most people are using fluorocarbon level line instead of the cheap level lines, and they cast much better. I’m not sure it’s really fair to compare a fiberglass rod to other tenkara rods that are made from carbon fiber or graphite. Same as western fly rods, they have a different purpose.

Nice video. I fish tenkara a lot in Colorado but have't tried in Montana much. I have a handful of rods that I like but no fiberglass ones. I might have to give the Aventik a try.
