The final agni ki is a masterpiece of animation and storytelling, the music choice is saying "this isnt action what you are watching, it's a tragic inevitability." And the voice actresses performance during Azula's mental collapse is heartbreaking to listen to. I can't imagine what she had to think of to bring out the emotions for that scream.

The way I see it, by choosing to not kill Ozai, it goes to show that Aang's culture is still relevant and didn't deserve to die out. There is still meaning to choosing peace.

That 100%. I also think it represents Aang choosing to fully embrace his position as Avatar but to not sacrofice his childhood and his innocence to that ultimate cosmic power. He was robbed of his childhood, his innocence, and his culture when he became the Avatar and ran away. The whole series is about him finally taking responsibility as Avatar but I don't think Aang fully gives up his whole self. He finds a balance.@@torch712

The mirrors in this series are just amazing and seemingly endless. One of my favorites being that Aang has a lightning scar in his back from Azula from Zuko betraying them. And that Zuko now has a lightning scar on his chest from Azula because he was willing to sacrifice himself.

I think the saddest part of Azula's breakdown was that she didn't sound surprised to "see" her mother. Surprised that she cared enough to be there for her coronation, maybe. But she never said "but you disappeared!" or "there's no way you're really here!" It makes you wonder: how many times has Azula imagined these conversations with her mother?

My favorite part is Aang talking to the previous avatars for sure. Yang Chen telling him “it’s not about you” and that the avatar being unable to reach enlightenment because they are inherently duty-bound to the world is such thoughtful writing. I also like that the lion turtle tells him his spirit must be unbendable, which to me implies that Aang deciding not to sacrifice his ideals is what allowed him to take away Ozai’s bending.

The scene where Iroh breaks through the wall of ba sing se is a somewhat overlooked example of how much power a firebender gains during the comet. He, and an entire army laid siege to that wall for 600 days and couldn't break through, but he did it single handedly, with one blast during the comet.

  • @scaredscorpion

No, they broke through. It even shows it during a sort of flashback where Zuko and Azula are reading a letter from Iroh. He just surrendered right after that. But, you're not wrong. I mean, they very clearly stated that it took 600 days to break through the wall. So Iroh in the finale still singlehandedly did in seconds what took an entire army 600 days.

I love that during the final Agni Kai, Zuko leans into waterbending and earthbending stances, completely embodying the philosophy that Iroh taught him. And then later when Katara pulls the baller move of freezing herself and Azula in a block of ice, she uses Zuko's own move from the finale of season one to melt himself out of her ice. This series is so subtle, I love it.

It's pretty much the message of the whole show - embodied by the ideals of the White Lotus. Isolated and withdrawn, the 4 nations are all shown to be in a state of stagnation and decay, recycling old ideas over and over until they have gradually lost all meaning. Even the powerful and dominant Fire Nation has forgotten how to dance and lost their true art of fire bending. Team Avatar however, only get stronger and stronger, just from being exposed to each other's different ideas, culture, philosophies and techniques. We see the same from Iroh when he reveals his technique of lightning redirection was inspired by studying Waterbenders (probably directly from Master Pakku within the White Lotus).

If you rewatch the battle, you'll see Zuko using different styles and stances that correspond with the four elements. He uses an earthbender stance to block one of Azula's blasts, he uses fluid movements and techniques to deflect and dodge others like air and water, and remembered Iroh's lesson on breaking Alula's root. He really took Iroh's lessons to heart and took inspiration from everyone.

aang was able to take his bending away BECAUSE of his refusal to compromise who he is, & i think that’s beautiful. “The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can touch the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning less time, darkness thrives in the void, but always yields to purifying light.” “To bend another's energy, your own spirit must be unbendable, or you will be corrupted and destroyed.” if he wasn’t so steadfast in his beliefs & teachings, if he was “corruptible”, it would not have worked. his ending perfectly encapsulates what makes him so strong. zuko’s journey is one of the most satisfying stories in television history, & this is why so many attempted redemption arcs are constantly compared to his. it wasn’t easy, he had to be confronted with the atrocities committed by his family & his nation. then he had to finally gain what he always thought he wanted to realize that it’s not who he is. he has to make amends with the people he hurt & betrayed. finally, he has to use his power & privilege to create a new era “of love and peace”. such a fantastic character. this show has been a part of my life since i was a kid and nothing has ever quite taken the number 1 spot for me (the only thing that comes close is the anime Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood). I’ve owned the DVDs for years, i have many of the comics, i have some books made from the perspective of past avatars, i have DOZENS of aang figures. nothing else in pop culture has managed to get me so hooked and im so happy you enjoyed the show ♥️

I believe Azula had heard her mom say she loved her, but she grew up seeing that her father only cared about power and realized that love couldn’t help her achieve the power needed to get her fathers approval. Human nature is to notice and be affected about what we perceive we lack rather than what we possess. Then her breakdown happened when she achieved all the power she had desired and realized it was empty, having driven away the few people who truly did love her on some level in that pursuit.

It's kind of obvious that Ursa did not love Ozai, so if Ozai rejects one child and claims another, which he did, it's not out of character for her to scoop up the rejected child and ignore the other. Azula learned to be scary and mean and cruel from a very young age it seems, from Ozai, and he would have encouraged, pushed, and rewarded that behaviour. So of course Azula would focus on the parent who praises her, and not the one who either punishes her, ignores her, or comments on her behaviour with "what's wrong with that child", uh ma'am, the way your husband is raising her is making her this way, let's not pretend you're blind somehow.

If you take a really good look at the last agni kai you can see Zuko uses bending techniques of other elements and it shows his growth as a character. You usually see firebending as an only offensive bending style with (usually) low defence capabilities. For instance at 15:38 he stood his ground, which is typical for an earthbender, and after making a defense, you see him counter attack with a huge blast as an offense which is more water type (I know you could argue that's not entirely true, bc Zuko didn't take Azula's offense and made it a counter attack). At 16:05 he shows an airbending move. Zuko really learned a lot by looking at the other members of the gAang and I love that

And his fighting style begins to change from offensive into defensive after he meets the dragons, you can tell when he fights Azula at the Air Temple. He waits for Azula to strike, evades or blocks her attack, and uses the opening to strike back, which is how an experienced martial artist fights. During that fight though, he doesn't use fighting stances or styles from other elements, that only happens after he spends some time with the Gaang, like you pointed out. That goes to show that, while learning from the dragons made him capable enough to hold his own against Azula, he still wouldn't have been able to beat her if he hadn't leaned into what Iroh told him and learned from Katara, Toph and Aang.

**edit** to clarify because there seems to be some confusion. The below is not me making excuses for a psychopath. On first watch through, you hate Azula because she's so good at being bad. On subsequent watchs though you realize that while she does terrible things she's also a 14 year old girl who was groomed by a monster to be the way she is almost from birth, and my heart really breaks for her. It's also what makes that final Agni Kai so emotional, from Zuko's resigned "no you're not.' To her final break down. I love that the music in that scene is sad, not triumphant. There's a story about how the composer was having so much trouble scoring those moments until one of the writers told him to make the tone melancholy and depressing. Because that fight is a tragedy, not a victory.

Also that the fight with her brother was sad, not triumphant, because them fighting at all wouldn't be happening if their father hadn't turned her into a monster. How it makes her fight with her brother that much more heartbreaking. She’s more than just bad for the sake of bad, she's a broken kid turned into a monster by and abusive father. Someone put it very simply for me about Azula’s state of mind. The hallucination of her mother is, of course, all in her mind. That means she is having the conversation in her mind…it’s all her own inner dialogue. Azula is conversing with herself. Breakdowns and hallucinations are the mind resisting an environment or situation. Her life has become unbearable and confused. She is essentially going through what Zuko went through all at once and from an even higher falling point. There isn’t anyone to guide her through it though. Ursa is also there for the obvious reasons, as an unresolved dynamic with mom. But these conversations means Azula is becoming aware of her faults and flawed worldview, but it’s too much to bare so she doubles down on her previous course. Like many people have said this isn’t the zero point of this switch, but it is the beginning of the breaking point.

Thank you for this beautiful journey, it’s been fantastic hearing your thoughts and feelings about this wonderful show. And your thoughts about the finale were really on point and echo so much of what I’ve felt about this ending. I think that this show has one of the most satisfying endings I’ve experienced. Aside from a few little questions that were left unanswered (I’ll admit that I haven’t had a chance yet to read the comics or watch The Legend of Korra, so I can’t give any spoilers if anything is answered later) I felt that everything was concluded in one of the best possible ways. I especially adore how much care the show took in bringing characters to a place that is not just good for them, but so suitable for them and who they are. I could probably talk about it forever, but I’ll just mention a few of my favorite things about how the show ended with taking characters to a new stage of their life. Uncle Iroh is one of my favorite characters - and I mean one of my favorites in general, not just in this show. That his primary identity is no longer “General Iroh, the legendary Dragon of the West”, but he is planning to live out his days in the quiet life of making tea is just so suitable to him and who he has become over the years. And Zuko. What a transformation, and one that took a lot of hard work to achieve. I have so much to say about him too, but I think so much of it can be summarized by what you noticed - how he’s serving tea to everyone after his coronation. At the start of the show he has so much rage from his traumatic childhood and a lot of that surfaces in feelings that he’s been robbed of his birthright. It’s brought up before how he thought people should do what he wants and serve him because he’s royalty. And at the end of the show he actually and legitimately is the Fire Lord, the ruler of a powerful nation. But now he’s no longer demanding respect and service, he is among friends and loved ones as an equal and is voluntarily of service to others - that little detail so perfectly summarizes his growth as a person. Ty Lee joining the Kyoshi Warriors is just perfect for her - it’s another quick moment of the show but it says so much because it just makes so much sense for her character. And Mai of course, she’s one of my favorites too, and I am so incredibly happy that she stood up to Azula and showed her strength and character, and how that led to a happy end for her in the show. Azula herself is just such a tragedy. Throughout the latter part of this season you can really see how much her own trauma has affected her. As easy it is to hate her throughout the show, the finale reminds us how she’s still just a young teenager, and of all the burdens that have been placed on her by growing up her father’s favorite. She still does so many awful things through the show and needed to be defeated - but I think the sound design of her final battle with Zuko is such a fantastic decision. The muted sound and somber music is so fitting to that fight - taking her down is necessary, but not a triumphant heroic moment. I love that it isn’t given the sound design of an exciting action scene, instead it’s so serious and somber. And so sad, especially when you see what she has become, just completely broken by everything that has happened. Katara being the one to end the fight is beautiful too, showing her strength and resourcefulness as the water bending master she always wanted to be. And Aang, of course. So much to say again, but I think it’s all summarized in the title of the last part - “Avatar Aang”. Throughout the show, he’s needed to grow up fast for a young kid. And it’s not always been easy, and he’s especially not been himself when in the avatar state - he’s just been an uncontrolled force of rage and violence, just a manifestation of the pure power of the Avatar. But in the final part, when he gains control while in the avatar state and decides to not end things with violence - then he truly is Avatar Aang, not just a manifestation of the power of the avatar. Ok, apparently I’m talking forever about this anyway, even though I was just planning to make a quick comment about some of my favorite things. There are just too many favorite things in this show :) But I’ll stop here and just thank you again for sharing the journey and your appreciation of the show, this was fantastic.

I love what you pointed out about Aang not getting his final burst of determination from someone he loves being threatened (such an overdone trope!), but because he truly wants to save the world. It just occurred to me that Aang's pure altruism is one of the reasons this is my favorite show of all time. He's an inherently good person, and making a character like that interesting is HARD. Aang certainly has flaws, but they're mainly related to his age and maturity level. I love that the personal conflict he has here at the end is his inner philosophy vs outer expectations, it's not that he has to "prove" himself to himself or to other people. The easier storytelling route would be to write an anti-hero, or someone with major character flaws. There are plenty of well-written anti-heroes, but I do think that we're lucky this was conceived as a kids' show in that this story with adults in mind would have to be a lot more cynical, and a lot of the great character growth would be lost in attempts to be edgy.

Everything in the quasi "epilogue" here always really gets to me: Zuko and Mai being the cutest, Tai Lee actually having super subtle character development by joining the Kyoshi warriors (remember her childhood trauma about just being part of a "matching set" of same looking sisters?), that hug between Aang and Zuko and the coronation of the latter 🥲

All the places that made me cry the first time i watched the show are still just as powerful and tearjerking today as im in my 30s as they were when i was in my teens. Its been so great getting to be here and go on this first time journey with you, and i cant wait for Korra!

I watched this show while it was airing as a kid. I was 2 months shy of turning SEVEN YEARS OLD when the finale for this show released. I can currently say I’ve rewatched the show on my own numerous times, as well as watched reactions to the entire show (including yours) WELL over a dozen times. And, with every fiber of my being, I believe not a single moment was wasted. Every single time it feels just as fresh as the last. It was amazing to watch this again with you from the very beginning, and I can’t even put into words how excited I am for you to react to Legend of Korra. A lot of people will push the show aside or not give it a chance simply bc of their attachments to Aang, but I swear if you let go of that you’ll be met with a story that’s not just compelling but extremely thought provoking towards how the world of Avatar works! Sorry this is such a long comment, but I swear no matter how many times I watch this ending it always feels like I’m 7 years old watching it with you and other reactors. So happy you got to fully experience this entire show!

One of my favorite parts about the Azula/Katara fight is how Katara fights with an airbending philosophy. Evade, reposition and defend until you can find an unexpected angle to defeat your opponent in one move.

Book 3, Episode 20: What’s really cool is that the look on Ozai’s face when Aang redirects the lightning isn’t just shock that he did it. It’s shock knowing that Zuko fulfilled his claim to Ozai that he was going to help Aang defeat the fire nation because Zuko is the only other person to redirect lightning. Also, Azula’s mental breakdown doesn’t actually start in the finally. It starts with Mai’s betrayal and Mai telling her “I love Zuko more than I fear you” because Azula has always valued fear over love. Book 3, Episode 21: And that’s all she wrote. This is one of the best series finales ever. I love the way first episode is titled “The Boy in the Iceberg” and the last is titled “Avatar Aang.” It really nicely bookends the show. I love that the first and last word of dialogue say “it’s perfect.” And I love the way they resolved the issue of killing Ozai. I love that the tiger-dillo roar comes back. First Aang does it in part 1, then Ozai does it, then Avatar state Aang does it. The question of Zuko’s mother Ursa is answered in the comic The Search, which I highly recommend. Katara and Aang hugging before they kiss is really important because it signifies that they were friends first and that this isn't just the hero getting the girl. I really hope you follow up with Legend of Korra. It is a weaker series in terms of writing but it is still excellent!

Ah, another satisfied viewer and fan of the series! It sucks not being able to relive and experience this show for the first time, but it is a joy to watch others go through it and fall in love with these characters and this absolutely perfect story. There are very few shows I can watch over and over again and this is one of them. It is a show with so much beauty, heart, and wisdom. Mark Hamil is on record for having said he though the show was going to he axed because it was simply too good and too smart when he read the script for the first time and I’m glad (and I’m sure he’s glad!) that he was wrong (about it getting axed, of course!) The ending was paced perfectly and they tied up so many loose threads so perfectly. Suki, Sokka, and Toph are a force to be reckoned with. Sokka using his brains and on the fly smarts to dismantle the airship fleet, Toph using her unique ability to metalbend and concluding her unseen arc: opening up and trusting people! Suki, of course, just being a badass and showing what it means to be a motherf’ing Kyoshi Warrior! It is too bad we didn’t get to see more of her in the series, but I can’t be surprised when the creators didn’t anticipate she would come back after her debut appearance; but fans loved her so much- so they got her back and the moment she helped Appa back in Season 2: I was sold on Suki! Iroh and Zuko’s reunion is perfect. It’s always interesting to see people watch Zuko’s fall in Season 2 because you know it’s that fall which makes the second half of Season 3 so amazing as he works to repair burnt bridges and finishes with his Uncle. It is the greatest redemption story of all time. His growth is so profound. Even in the final fight against Azula, you can see how his fighting style reflects what his Uncle had taught him: understanding the other elements and their fighting styles. He stood his ground like an Earthbender, went on the offensive as a Firebender- but with the true way of the Dragons, used the evasiveness and mobility of Airbending with his little breakdance move there (something foreshadowed way back when in his Agni Kai against Zhao!), and lightning redirection with waterbending. It’s funny how Sozin joked about having Roku showing him how all forms of bending are done in S3E6, and Zuko- Sozin “reborn” if you will- gets to exactly that point. It would be an interesting though if Sozin had learned the other styles if that would have given him the perspective and respect he needed… Katara defeating Azula was perfect. It was foreshadowed all that way back in S2E8 that Katara is probably one of the few people than can go toe to toe with Azula and we see it again in S2E20 (which is why I bet Zuko asked for Katara’s help). But it is so fitting that Katara is the one to stop the person who effectively killed Aang in Season 2. I may be reading into things, but the parallels of her “freezing herself” to save her life as Aang accidentally did before the show started is even more amazing and I’m glad she did finally have a chance to heal Zuko this time around (and now Zuko has a similar scar on his body as Aang does- yet another parallel!) Azula- ho boy, this is tricky. I’ve gone back and forth as to whether or not she should have gotten (or even should get) a redemption arc. She’s a literal child (I mean still a teen- but that’s still a child) and groomed into being a war machine by a manipulative, abusive, and horrible megalomaniac. She is the product of her father and her father alone. There’s a lot of interesting things about Azula in the graphic novels (including the most recent one surrounding her and her alone)- so I’ll let you discover that as you would like. Nonetheless, her fall and defeat were both poetic and I’m glad it wasn’t a “celebrated” moment. It wasn’t triumphant in the music during or after the fight. It was sad and somber. It is a tragedy and I’m glad the team gave her that level of due respect Iroh- as much as we want to see Iroh as a powerhouse, I’m certain the team behind the show knew there was no way to live up to those expectations and frankly? They never needed to. Iroh never wanted to be the warlord. He “enjoyed” his duty growing up, but then his eyes were opened after his son was killed and he realized he was doing the same to so many other people. He didn’t want to fight, he wanted to put violence behind him. He learned his lesson and him burning the Fire Nation Flag was the best closure for his arc. He knew what he needed and it was that moment to atone for his past sins. Playing music in his tea shop is what he always wanted. Ozai- it’s a little frustrating that he ended up being a one dimensional mustache twirling villain by the end of it all, but sometimes that’s all ya need, ya know? He’s manipulative, diabolical, scheming, and extremely skilled and it might not make for a three dimensional villain, but that really wasn’t what the final conflict was all about, ya know? It wasn’t about fighting some complex ideology. It was something much more than that Which brings me to Aang! Some people don’t like he got the ending he wanted, but I respectfully think those people are as wrong as it can get. That’s the point! Aang’s story is one of passion and perseverance! He is the LAST of his people. Most people, especially children, would have crumbled under that- their spirits broken through suffering. But Aang found meaning in his suffering and used it to fuel his motivation to fulfill his duty and destiny. Being the LAST AIRBENDER is a big part of why the ending was the way it was. If Aang killed, would he he the last AIRBENDER? I mean he’s the last person who can bend air, sure… but not the last airbender… the last air nomad. Turning his back on his culture would have been the true death of the Air Nomads and Aang didn’t compromise that and THAT was the point of the final fight and one of the many points and themes of the show. Aang looked everywhere for validation and even when his soul was crushed yet again after talking to Yangchen, he took one last shot with the Lion Turtle and found the solution he was looking for: a true AIRBENDER way of handling things- looking for the next angle or trick. Did the energy bending come out of nowhere? Sure, I guess. Is that a bad thing? Not in the slightest. There was no way to effectively foreshadow it. I’d love to see someone try and I just know if would come short. Aang found his own path and stuck to his guns and that’s what matters most of all and is a powerful lesson for young people to learn. Does pushing and pushing and pushing always work out? No, not always. It’s a harsh reality. But, it’s like Zuko said in the Boiling Rock, you still need to try each time and that’s what Aang did. Definitely check out the Graphic Novels. They aren’t as good as the show because they aren’t written by the same geniuses that brought us ATLA itself and it’s hard to write for a comic book, let alone write for characters who aren’t your own! I do feel there’s some character arc backtracking in some of them (mostly the first one) and some forced drama and I’m personally not a fan of the art direction in the later works, but the overall ideas and themes and natural progression of the world post-ATLA? It’s interesting stuff and great food for thought. The Kyoshi and Yangchen novels on the other hand? Now THOSE are worth checking out without a doubt. I think ATLA is the greatest show ever made and one of the greatest overall stories ever told (or, more precisely, one of the best tellings of the Hero’s Journey ever told!)… but I still hold to my statement that I think these novels take the avatar world to a whole other level of excellence and as stories, I might actually like them more than ATLA, which is a tough trick to manage! F. C. Yee understands the world to a T and it shows in his books. I cannot recommend them enough! If you do go through them, I’m sure we’d love to see it! It doesn’t even have to be live- post mortem breakdowns are cool too! In any case, looking forward to seeing Korra. It ain’t ATLA, nor should it be ATLA. It also ain’t perfect because of a lot of network interference, but it is still good for what it is and that speaks to the minds behind the show itself. I’ve warmed up to that series greatly since it first aired. It may not be perfect. It’s got some high highs and really low lows, but it’s a nice opportunity to return to a beloved world and explore it once again.

Spiritbending is an interesting extension of how Bending works. Bending works by extending your chi into the element you wish to Bend (Firebending is slightly different, but still involves moving your chi beyond your body). Bloodbending shows the limitations of this. When you're trying to push your chi into someone else, there is great resistance, because people have innate control over their own chi, and their chi fills their entire body. So to overpower someone else's chi, you need your power to be amplified greatly by, for example, a Full Moon. Spiritbending is a form of pushing your chi into someone else in order to alter their chi on a fundamental level. To do so, not only do you need to be incredibly powerful, but you need to be able to resist their chi's attempt at pushing back. When the Lion-Turtle touched Aang, I don't think it did anything other than show Aang what this was like.

In the Agni Kai fight, you actually see Zuko incorporate different styles of bending into his moves! When he splits Azula's fire, he spreads his legs and arms out in a firm Earthbending stance. Then he uses his fingers to slice through Azula's fire, which is something Aang does a lot against firebending. The breakdancing spin kick is another airbending move. And of course, Iroh said he learned how to redirect lightning from waterbenders.

Plus, many people don't realise Legend of Korra was supposed to have one season only, after the demands only they get another season, and after that I think they finally added two more seasons Which is why the first two season's pacing was quick and concluded in each season as the creators don't know if they will get another season or not But despite all that, LoK still delivered and ended well, LoK was never meant to replace or be like ATLA, LoK is it's own show and that's good

Mark Hamill had such a brilliant performance as firelord Ozai in this show. Those lines he gives in the second last episode always give me chills. "You are weak. Just like the rest of your people. They did not deserve to exist in this world, in MY world. Prepare to join them, prepare to DIE!". Killing Aang to him isn't even just about taking out the Avatar, it's about proving that this world is his to do with as he wishes, even in going so far as completing the genocide of the Air Benders. You can just hear the megalomaniacal triumph and sadistic joy he feels because of that fact and it's chilling.

Already consensus that the Agni Kai is flipping gorgeous-score, animation, voice-acting, story. Aang definitely kills people over the course of the show. But he did not kill them in a conscious state. The one time where it's certain Aang killed people, he was in a weird spiritual fusion of a hellbent for vengeance ocean spirit and his uncontrolled defense mechanism reacting to the unutterable wrongness of the moon spirit's murder. Aang himself had flashbacks and nightmares about that night and disclaimed his actions. The person with the highest body count in the series-of people he meant to kill-is Sokka, sharing his tally toward the end with Suki and Toph. Aang defeated the Fire Lord. Katara took down Azula. The Order of the White Lotus reclaimed Ba Sing Se and the heart of the Earth Kingdom from Fire Nation colonialism. But the Ba Sing Se victory was essentially token and symbolic; Ozai had already written off all the Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom, Ba Sing Se included. Sokka, Suki, and Toph saved the Earth Kingdom and stopped another genocide. And they did it almost entirely alone, and two of them nonbenders. Maybe some of the people in that first ship the group hijacked survived being dropped out of the bomber bay. Maybe some injured people in the crashed airships lived when Aang raised the waters to put out the wildfires. But Sokka, Suki, and Toph undoubtedly killed hundreds in their attack. Also noteworthy: the three of them were willing to die in the attempt, and Toph's "Captain" to Sokka is humorous but also 100 percent sincere. I agree with you about Mai. She's good for Zuko, and vice versa. She calms him down; he encourages her to express herself and breaks her out of her apathy. It's also important that politically, she's a good match for him. Fire Nation nobility, which will be way more acceptable to all the people back home he is about to majorly upset than it would be if he got with any citizen of the Earth Kingdom or Water Tribe. And yes, it's beautiful that Fire Lord Zuko will take time off to serve his friends tea in an Earth Kingdom tea shop. He's learned humility and gratitude and grace, and he'll need all of them in the days ahead. I hope you do explore the Avatar books and comics. In addition to telling you more about past Avatars, you can learn what happened to Ursa, and explore how Aang and Zuko fix the world. The comics really delve into the messy gray politics of reconstruction, where bad guys and good guys aren't so clear anymore, and what comes next isn't easy to define. I loved your reaction series on this show. I look forward to seeing you react to Korra, and hope to get your take on the live action show too.

It's worth noting that when they first meet Toph, she has a hard time trusting others to a fault. Then by the ending, when Sokka points out where the nearest airship was, she IMMEDIATELY shot them in that direction despite not being able to see it herself. In that moment, she had complete trust in Sokka and in her friends. Also, when she was hanging off the ship, the only thing she could feel was Sokka's hand. Her entire world in that moment, was literally Sokka and Sokka alone. Another testament to how much her trust has grown since she joined the group. It's one of the more subtle character arc in the show, but I've always loved how Toph grows
