    I think he was just misusing the term "dub" there as a term for it being in English. He's saying he's glad it's an English show. At least that's how I'm taking it, he could just be under that impression.

    In a technical sense it is. Dubbing is just the practice of syncing the voice over dialogue with the animation. It just so happens English is the original voice dub for the show.

    Can we just appreciate Zuko's self-awareness at the end there? Like, my man knows he has trouble with Aang, an airbending kid with a little bit of water under his belt. When he sees Avatar Roku appear inside that ball of fire, he didnt hesitate. He knew he was waaaay out of his league, so he didn't even bother to see what happened with Aang. He just took the L and dipped.

    The Solstices are two extremes in our calendar. The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, either June 20th or 21st. The Winter Solstice is the longest night, December 21st or 22nd. In between are the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes, the days with the closest balance between day and night. They usually happen on March 21st and September 23rd.

    On Earth, solstices are twice-yearly phenomena in which solar declination reaches the Tropic of Cancer in the north and the Tropic of Capricorn in the south. During the June solstice (marked between June 20 and June 22), solar declination is about 23.5°N (the Tropic of Cancer).

    Yeah Roku is what Aang gonna turn into once he mastered the elements. Every avatar's destiny. Its like u do a tutorial in a game and in the start of the tutorial u got all the powers, u got all the abilities and u do mini tutorial mission once u done with that u start over with a new beginning a new character back to page 1. And that what you'll be able to do once u finish the game. :D I love when shows and games showing us that. What it looks like to be full fledged Avatar.

    If u fall high up into water while u flat or tilted the water surface will feel like concreate, if u fall straight down with toes facing the water it will break the water and u can technically survive but I don't think it works if its far too high. Like from clouds to the water will certainly guaranteed death.

    i’d like to point out that magma is the combination of fire and earth, so technically he’s doing two elements at once to control it. I love how this show gets into the elemental nature of the world, the balance of the yin and yang.

    The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year and is also the first day of winter. So this episode takes place at the very start of winter and Aang has until the end of summer. Personally I don't think that has to mean the exact last day of summer but probably like that last week or so. So Aang has all of winter, all of spring, and at least most of summer or in other words about 9 months.

    Did you look up what a solstice is by now? So from the real world scientific explanation: The rotational axis of earth is not perpendicular to the "plane" on which earth revolves around the sun. That is why it seems like the sun is rising higher in the sky during summer and lower during winter. The highest and lowest points are the and solstices. The word combines latin sol for sun and a participial stem of sistere which means to stand still. Because is seems like the sun is standing still and turning around on its path on these days or something. Whether or not the same explanation is true for this world though is debatable.

  • @michaelklaus

    @michaelklaus

    5 ай бұрын

    Well and the reason theý are called the summer and winter solstice is rather plausible. The summer solstice is in June when the sun appears the highest on the northern hemissphere and the winter solstice is in December when the sun appears the lowest for the northern hemisphere... so obviously the terms are less plausible for the southern hemisphere because the seasons are opposite on the southern hemisphere... Speaking of which: The seasons are also defined by this tilt of the axis (and not how some people oddly assume due to the elipsys on which earth revolves around the sun; weirdos). Half of the year (which is one revolution around the sun, remember? Well in my country you learn this in elementary school but in Murica kids apparently only learn to pledge allegicance adn that they want to shoot guns; not seure where you guys went to school) the northern hemisphere is more directed towards the sun and half of the year the southern. The points where this seemingly turns are the March and September Equinox. On these days the sun appears to stand in the zenith above the equator. (I just learned that the English terms for the circles of latitude in which sun stands in zenith on the solstices and their are kinda nonexplanatory: tropic of capricorn and tropic of cancer; while in my mother tongue they basically mean northern and southern circle of turning. But then again our word for solstice basically means turning of the sun. Oh and I forgot that these days of the solstices are also the days with the most or least hours of sunlight... for these reasons. And well we decided that these are the days that define the beginnings and ends of the seasons. So if we assume that the winter solstice was equally the beginning of winter in the show and the summer solstice is the beginning of summer, we can conclude that the "spring equinox"* is the beginning of spring and the "autumn/fall equinox"* marks the beginning fall and therefore summer's end. So although many people keep claiming that Aang has half a year to learn all the bending styles it is actually more like 9 months or three seasons: winter (book one: water), spring (book two: earth), and (most of) summer (book three: fire). *btw. this is what we call the march and september equinoxes in my tongue... which is more conclusive given that English speakers do not talk of the june and december solstices;

    If you don't know what a solstice is, the school system failed you. It's basically the first day of winter and summer respectively. In this case it's the first day of winter. For autumn and spring, their first days are called equinoxes.

    @TimberlakeTigerGirl, that's great, but also realize that there are more than a hundred countries in the world and the education system is different even throughout cities and towns. So saying that if someone doesn't know something you learned early on is considered stupid or failed by the education system just comes off narrow minded and inconsiderate.

  • @TimberlakeTigerGirl

    @TimberlakeTigerGirl

    @@greysnowi3816 Your argument would make sense if these two came from a remote village out in the middle of nowhere. Except statistics show that 3rd world countries, who usually have issues regarding basic needs like running water and electricity, still have education than 1st world countries that have the privilege of accessing the Internet. I've seen videos of villagers from Pakistan and India that aren't very knowledgeable about things that children should know in grade school. However, unlike these two, I can forgive their ignorance at not knowing things because, being from remote villages in developing nations and contact with the outside world is limited, they have a legitimate excuse. But even they know what the seasons are and what things like solstices are. And yes them not knowing about solstices is a failure in the school system. I can't speak for every country, but in the US our education rates are horrendous. There are seniors in high school who are still not capable of reading past elementary school level of books. Math scores have dropped significantly because too many schools are worried about 'poc kids left behind by their white peers' so they don't even try anymore. There are kids who can't read or write in cursive at all because schools did away with it in favor of indoctrinating kids with identity politics. Luckily though it would appear that cursive is making a comeback as several states are re introducing it into the school curriculum. And from news reports I've read, some kids don't even know their own freaking home address is. I'm not even sure who I should blame that on: the parents or the school system. Because what if a kid gets lost and they can't get home because they don't know where they live? Especially if they are in a place with little to no cell service? So yes it is a failure in the education system. That kind of information should be common knowledge and if schools don't teach that stuff, then the curriculum needs to be changed.
