Great video! I bought 3 of these and they've paid for themselves within six months. I keep them charged up; when you just roll up to someone with a weak battery and this 'cute' little box kicks off their vehicle(some of them medium-size diesels), you get BIG BIG hero points.

Another big advantage of this unit is that it allows boosting newer vehicles without risking any damage to the on board computers.

Cool. I just got one. The unit is rated down to minus 40F. Unlike batteries which rely on chemical (electrochemical) reactions to make amps, the capacitors are purely physical and should discharge the same amperage, independent of temperature. You should be able to stash it in the vehicle, forget about it for ten years, then bust it out.... or use it more often and help people out.

I researched the prows and cons of both types of jump starters. The battery units still need to be charged and some people are to busy to remember to do this. The capacitor type units still need some juice in the car battery. I found a commercial heavy use capacitor unit that works differently. It was delivered with the capacitors charged at 14.2 V. I put it in the trunk of my car. Around 13 months later I jumped my friends jeep. You don't need to charge it from the vehicle you are jumping until after you start the vehicle. Once the vehicle starts you leave it connected. It takes 30 seconds or less for it to charge. It has 6 foot long charging cables that are made with 4 gauge wire. It weighs 19 lbs. It is the KrankingKart Mini HD. It can be dropped in water and will float.

Now that is a proper demo. I saw a few others where they jumped a partial dead battery but that was amazing demo!

Well I’m sold

this device should last a lot longer than ten years. its solid state. I have a 40 year old solid state stereo.

Ps I saw this in Scotty Kölner channel. This device will also let you know if your battery is charging once it's running and still connected. It will show the voltage and with that you can see if the alternator still works

If you need longer crank time, the KeenPower unit has a larger set of super caps. It's rated for 500F and I ran a rough test and it showed 87% of that, so I consider it within that spec allowing for measurement error. It needed interpolation to calculate the full capacity because it cuts out when the voltage drops before 10V, so the full charge of the capacitors can't really be used in testing. The design of the KeenPower is oddly without much in the way of foolproofing compared to the Auto Wit and Schumacher units I also have. It'll fully allow you to connect it up in reverse to your car and blow things up if you choose to. The Autowit won't switch on at all unless it detects a connection to a minimal voltage with the right polarity, though it can be bypassed if needed.

Initially I purchased a battery-type jump starter, but the manual said I needed to charge it about every three months. Plus some reviews say that the lithium types only last about two to three years and will crack if left in a hot vehicle. That was a deal-breaker for me. So I returned it and got the AutoWit as shown in this video. I found an unused 5V 2amp power block and put that in the carrying case, since the Autowit doesn't come with one (only the cable). If my car battery is too dead, either I'll find someone who will allow me to charge the Autowit from their vehicle, or I'll find a 120V outlet and use the 2amp power block. I tested it and got it up to 50% power within just a few minutes. If you go camping and will be remote, then yeah a battery-type is the right choice. But if you have access to power in some form, then this seems to be a good choice since there is no maintenance. Battery-type jump starters won't be any help if they are dead when you need it.

If you have an old 12V sealed lead acid battery you can keep that along with the super cap starter to provide the charge if you're worried about your vehicle battery somehow getting absolutely dead. It'll charge much faster than a 5V source. 50% on the auto wit will not work at all because the unit wouldn't switch on at that level, it needs to be pretty much fully charged before it'll allow the output to be switched on. That's just how it's designed.

Good video. I just purchased one a few days ago. My battery was completely dead and unable to charge the unit. I charged the unit to 100% using the cigarette lighter from another car. The charging was within a few minutes and I thought good to go. Placed cable connections on dead battery and nothing. The unit never recognized the connection to the battery. Am I doing something wrong with the cable connection to the dead battery? Thanks.

You could feel the 12v from touching the exposed wires? One wire in each hand shocked you at 12v?

I wonder does using a powerbank with fast charging capabilitys make it charge faster? Or is the device caped at 5V 2A and doesn't charge any faster?

Shouldn't the negative terminal be clipped to a different place for grounding, instead of the battery's negative terminal?

Normally yes. But remember you won't get any sparks if the clamp is placed securely because until you push the button, and the 10 second count-down goes to zero, there is no power being delivered to the battery/vehicle.

@@spacecoastz4026 Hmmm, strange, I thought I remembered that when I connected the black clip to the battery's negative terminal (or any other metal under the hood), I do see some sparks. But since you say that, I will double check again to make sure... And I will report back later...

If you haven't used it at all does it still only lasts 10 years?

I'd expect it to last 20 years either way, but time will tell if the components will hold up that long. It's just not sensitive to charging levels and use the way the lithium battery jump packs are, which is the major advantage to me, as I like to just leave it in the trunk and forget about it until it's needed.

Perhaps it is the starter going out or the phasers are clacking...that's my guess.

It did not work for my power generator with a completely dead battery. If you try to disconnect battery, this Starter is useless. It will not start a car without battery.

Because this is a capacitor that builds up a charge over time and then releases it so it requires a battery to be in the system very few jump package can replace a battery long term unless you buy on one the large led acid jump starters that is pretty much a car battery in a different form factor

@@DomDemeo Yes, and it does nothing. Short hold, long hold - nothing. I tested on my ML350 by dicharging the battery and I was able to start a car when battery present, even though it was discharged to close 5Volts. But this Started just does not work if battery is connected to clips. Probably it is a nature of capacitors. Try to charge it from cigaret lighter, disconnected from lighter and press button. Nothing will happen if it is not connected to a battery.

@@DomDemeo My power generator LF8750iEPL had a completely empty battery (below 1 volt). Autowit was not able to recognize it and never was able to start the generator. I was about to give up and return Autowit, but then I decided to try to charge the battery a little bit using Power Generator's internal trickle charger just for testing. In 20 minutes of trickle charging, I connected Autowit previously charged 100% from the car cigarette lighter, and then connected it to a battery of the generator, which had about 9 volts by that time. Autowit recognized it and went into PowerON mode where I was able to press a button and start 10 seconds countdown. And woala! I was able to crank up the generator and start it. Upgraded my review in Amazon to 4 stars, because still Autowit does not have an override mode to start 10 seconds countdown on a completely dead or no battery installed. Autowit is a keeper and I am ready for any storm which could knock power off. If I would need to precharge the battery for Autowit to recognize it, I could use one of my computer CyberPower battery backups to provide 110 volts to precharge the battery in the Generator.

I want one but that cost to much. Jumper cables work
