Yes, they are autotrophs. They produce sugar through photosynthesis, and this provides their energy. The reason they eat flies is to get nitrogen (which is needed for proteins and DNA). Most plants get nitrogen from the soil, but venus fly traps live in very nitrogen-poor soil. "Eating" insects is an adaptation that allows them to get the nitrogen they need.
