Autodesk Revit 2023 - IFC Parameter Tools Update

Ғылым және технология

Autodesk Revit 2023 comes with some great IFC updates including a new way to include your IFC classifications on your model objects. This short video shows some of this updated functionality and some pointers on how to avoid too many parameters being used at the same time.

hi nice video info. Do you know if 2023 can add bip/properties parameters title, like instead of Identity data, add or rename it as another group name? thanks

As far as we can see, altering the ‘group parameter under’ list is still not available to change even through shared parameters. This seems to be hard coded and you would need to change some back end programming to add or modify this list which we would not recommend. According to the Autodesk forums is has been requested for some time but never added as a function.

Hi there. What happens if i need to use the "IfcObjectType" parameter for a UserDefined type? It is not available by default in Revit 2023.

If you have a category which you are defining an enumeration subcategory against the normal object this can be selected in the same window. It will not automatically create the IfcObjectType parameter so you will have to add this in manually on your project or families as before. If your IFC viewer supports this field, then you should still be able to view it but we have noted that not all IFC viewers accept and understand this 3rd parameter for the user defined object definition output. The enumerations parameter field is now labelled with ‘Type IFC Predefined Type’ which is where the USERDEFINED filed will be located. You can still use the old system of adding all the IFC parameters in manually or through the Standardised Data Tool but we would not recommend running both the old and new systems as they might interfere with one another. If you are looking to do something else, then please let us know. There are several Autodesk forum posts on this subject that might be worth looking at although generally referencing the older parameter arrangement. if you need more information please email marketing@manandmachine.co.uk

Hi. Do you know if it now in Revit 2023 is possible to override the previous hardcoded IFC Class mapping of system families, eg export a ceiling as an IfcRoof or a wall as an IfcFurniture? (Bad examples but I hope you get the point.)

You can override the category classification mappings for both system and family objects by using the IFC Export options dialogue or if viewing this on an elemental level you can force individual objects to take on other classifications by using the IFC Export As parameter. With the new inbuilt tool for IFC classification, it has made this a bit easier, and you have the option to search through 5 different IFC Schemas from IFC 2x3 to IFC4.3 which is the current latest release. I hope this helps to answer your question.

Nope. Ceiling still stays as IfcCovering.CEILING
