Auto Detailing Clay Showdown Review the truth below by | Auto Fanatic

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Guys I wanted to do a comparison video on the various auto detailing clay bars on the market.(Paint Cleaning Clay) I call this showdown The Good, The Bad and The Useless paint cleaning clay comparison because not all auto detailing clay bars are created equal and I will explain and show you why. My immaculately maintained GT350 got contaminated overnight, and some of the cheap products struggled with the removal. Stop wasting money and double the time and effort using the auto parts store cheap stuff and step up to the professional grade auto detailing clays that premier body shops and pro detailers use.
I made this video to showcase two professional clay bars that you will never see talked about online, in catalogs and at your local auto parts store. Professional grade products do not need fancy packaging, gimmick commercials and other forms of promotion, VALUE PACK ha ha ha, not a chance a brand like 3M will ever stoop so low because these products are introduced internally to professional shops by field reps who come and do the demonstrations on site.
If you guys want to make your life easier click the links below and buy the products I highly recommend and never look back. I can clay bar an entire car in 30 minutes using the clay bars below. Time is money in my life so maximizing efficiency is key.
NOTE: the new 3M Clay is Purple not blue, look this up on the 3M Website if your worried about what you recieve
Step 1: Chemical Guys V07 works outstanding for clay application amzn.to/2wCUESS
Step 2: Pick up real microfiber towels such as the Griots PFM here amzn.to/2wEUXLs
Step 3:
Meguiars Professional Medium Clay
amzn.to/2iZJzq8
3M Perfect It, I still feel this is simply the BEST Auto Detailing Clay in the world!!!!! amzn.to/2vJ7TCU
Enjoy the process using the finest clay bars you can get and never look back. Your detailing regimen will be much easier with the proper clean foundation.
If you guys want me to demo any other products and If i feel it is worthy to demonstrate please send me a email at

Agree on prof detailers being rare. I own an auto repair shop and we have tried/tested several different detail businesses so we could recommend them to our customers, not one has done a decent job, we ended up having to go over the cars ourselves afterwards.

al mohr agreed!....I had a dark blue Acura TSX i wanted to sell, figure a pro detailing would be cost effective and give me a bit more profit. Tried local detailers (keep in mind i am a weekend warrior novice detailer at best, and this car was neglected and needed a lotttttttt of work just to be presentable, my daughters car...)...was not impressed with how they described their process or products they used. Went to a few body shops, most recommended full hood and fender repaint/blending for $$$$. Finally had one body shop owner, said for less $$$, his detailing guy could do entire car, inside and out....showed me some of his work on other cars. Bottom line car needed a hood repaint, and hours of detailing to get it right. Daughter had $200-325 to spend....he detailed it, did a decent job, increased value of the car by $1,000, was win win. In retrospect, i learned a lot more about detailing, better products, proper technique. I doubt he clay barred the TSX, prob D/A polish or wax and maybe buffed. So yeah, many body shops outsource the detailing, others have an internal hired detail guy...but he multitasks with doing painting, bodywork, etc....IMO search out, ask around WHO the....best...local pro detailers are, like this guy says.....ask them questions.....and do a walk thru of their shops to see what products they use....if they r using consumer grade products walk away, find someone else....or....upgrade your own skill set, buy better products to save time/extra steps, but consumer grade clay bar is fine too...Point being....ya gotta DO ....clay bar step when surface needs it!

@@MrWkendwarrior I disagree with your assessment of consumer grade products. I’ve prepped cars for ceramic coatings with consumer grade products excluding the coating itself and it does an awesome job. Majority of detailing products do the same thing no matter price or grade they are.

The consumer ones are actually okay for beginners. The Meguiars consumer clay bar was my first, and it was the one that gave me an instant "wow" as soon as I clayed the car. Granted, my car was never excessively contaminated, still, the results were very satisfying. Yes, they do tend to require some additional passes, but it also mars less, and for the average consumer, that's a good trade-off. Imagine getting the professional line, and getting your paint marred (or scratched due to improper use)...

I bought the meguiars blue clay based upon watching this video. After having little success using the CG yellow "OG" bar, the MG blue clay worked wonders and they give you 3x more product. Takes less effort to move across the paint, and doens't leave high spots all over.

The guy spends like 12 minutes questioning why Mothers and McGuiar's spend so much to marketing what he refers to as crap. I wonder why in the hell he would spend 12 minutes trashing them? Who's paying him? I've used both "professional" and "consumer" rated products and both work. The professional may be a bit more aggressive and works faster. When I'm done buffing out a nice coat of wax I can't tell the difference.

@@autofanaticcars My opinion on this, I think the Clay Bars you recommended are way too overpriced for what they are.. sorry but I think there's a company called Magic Clay?? Works just as great, and the mothers shown here works for most.. the marring you mentioned happens even with the professional types. Btw, that 3m Clay you've got, I swear I've purchased it for much much cheaper than the amount you mentioned. all I'm saying is what's the point of spending extra when you could get the same results for much less.

Spike I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one. I’ve Clay bared millions of cars with the high quality one and it’s always worked for me with no problems. I tried the Walmart ones & they’re horrible, it’s basically a toy. Not strong enough for the messed up exteriors i needed to clean. I was only happy with the microfiber towel I got. All you need is soap, water & a good high quality clay bar to get the exterior smooth clean. The chemical guys brand is just household products with their brand on it. You don’t need anything from the chemical guys. The goal is to remove contaminants foreign stuff from the exterior/interior. Removing dirt is a job for soap, degreaser, simple green, carpet cleaner. Stuff like that these detailing brands are a joke.

I used the clayzilla, similar to nanoskin pads, blocks or mitts, it worked in one pass as compared as meg commercial retail claybar still leaving rough areas, with the clay pad block I applied no pressure, no fast moves, and I was satisfied. I would love to see you reviewing some of those products to see if you like them. The pads will work better if you use them on glass before you use them on paint, and always in the shade to prevent scratches and other issues most people have complained about.

Is this the stuff you are referring to in this video? If so, which level do you recommend? I've been using a clay pad (those reusable ones) and it seems to work alright. It cleaned the truck more as we were claying, but i suspect that this was the reason these "cheap" clay bars fell apart. Also this process produced no marring because we were carefull.

Hey, i got one of those “crappy clay bar kits” for Christmas and I finally got to use it on my F150 the other day and like you said about people using it for the first time that they think it’s amazing and I am very much so in that boat. The truck was used in a construction company and I got it with 175,000 km on it and I’m now on 250,000 never been clayed before. What I’m wondering is with those cheaper bars is it normal to go through 1 full bar just on the cab? The entire side of the bar was brown after each 1’x1’ section and I also kept folding it over to get new clay. My writing skills aren’t the best so it might seem all over the place. I also had what looked like rust spots all over my truck and for years thought it was rust coming through and it looked like hell but after the clay it went away just like that... do you know what that is?

After trying Meguire’s Clay Kit that took lots of rubbing and hardly any results, I tried Black Fire Poly Clay - Aggressive, it was a little better, lots of overspray still remained. Do you think the 3M Perfect-It will remove it easily? Or would you recommend another product? Thank you!

I'm sure most people don't buy the auto store kits because that's all they can offord. It's what's on the shelf most people don't go to supplyer houses. Your comparison is of different grades clay compound can be aggressive and to mild so results will very.

According to the some of the reviews on Amazon, 3M Perfect-It is supposedly made in Brazil now, not in Japan, and say it’s garbage. The reviews for the Maguire’s Professional are outstanding (4.7 out of 5), and it’s still made in Japan.

I do totally agree with your comments, as I have used the consumer grade products and I could not figure out why the heck the stuff wasn't doing the job as good as I thought it should be. I thought I was doing something wrong, maybe I was, but I used it exactly as directed. I'll definitely be giving the professional grade stuff a try on my next claying of my vehicles.

Funny I have used 3M stuff for years...but lately didn't really have a car worth clawing. Never had a yellow clay bar. Looking to grab a GT350 after I got the wife a used 911 with a 7 speed manual. Would like to see a review and thoughts on these new ceramic coatings that are out there, is it worth it, and what brands do you recommend. Also would comment that I've felt that getting contamination of windows even more important than paint, since a lot of crap on the windshield can cause visibility problems. Also looks like you had a paste wax review up but then it got pulled down.

I’ve heard claying was being done in the 1930’s in this country. So as far a Japan inventing it? I’m not sure I’m not a car clay historian, it’s just what I have heard in the past.

XxLaMaravish13xX ... after you wash it, if it doesn’t feel smooth it most likely is contaminated with tree sap or other junk. It’s recommended to use clay to remove this. If it feels smooth I don’t think I would clay the car as the process can put small scratches in the paint. That is why people often polish the car after claying it. Polishing compounds level the surface to eliminate scratches. This effectively thins the paint (usually this is a clear coat of paint), so polish if necessary but only if necessary. If you polish make sure the surface is cleaned of all remnants of polishing compound. Once the car is clean, you can apply your sealant - or - sealant/then wax combo - or - just wax. It’s generally believed that sealants last longer than waxes. Some feel waxes give a deeper and glossier shine. Just check out some reviews and give it a go. I’m pretty sure all sealants and waxes offer UV protection and help water bead up or sheet off. You can’t really go wrong. It’s just that some last longer
