Honestly sometimes I think the mimicking of sounds is kind of like a catchy song that gets stuck in the head. I find myself repeating scripts in my head from former clients from years ago because I would hear them all the time and they were super catchy! Some kiddos create such cool scripts or sounds that it’s hard not to pick them up 😂

Greetings from Greece! Our older daughter ( 6,5 years old) is quite jealous of her 3 and 4 months year old sister on the spectrum, because of the extra attention. For almost 3 years our daughter on the spectrum paid absolutely no attention to her older sister, just like Jacob. It's been only a few months now that she seems more aware of her sister's presence. I deeply believe that in the future they will share a strong bond

This is actually a decision my husband and I are currently struggling with. Our son is 2 and got diagnosed with ASD last week. We have always wanted more than one child. At least two children filling up our lives with joy and driving us crazy 😉. A little brother or sister for our son. We first decided to wait because of Covid, then we started to notice our son wasn’t developing like his peers. Now we wonder: If it is far to a second child, when our son will need so much attention and focus? Is a second child going to take some of our focus off our son, when he really needs it? And last there is the question that scares me the most. What if our second child is on the Spectrum also? I love my son and would do anything for him, but I know the road ahead will not easy. It feels like the hardest decision in our lives.

We’ve got exactly the same decision to make too. I honestly don’t know how to decide.

It was same here for us. The younger sibling would want to play with the older autistic sibling and the autisic sibling didn't handle sharing toys or space well. He would often use physical force to say 'no' so I had to monitor a lot of their interactions.

She's so cute. I can't resist the interaction with her brother😀😍🥰🤗💗 I'm autistic, but I was the more quiet, shy, timid one. But I was the sweet one too like Jazz.. I loved my brothers and sisters and they loved me too.. They still do to this day.. I didn't talk until I was about 4 or 5. I was non-verbal until then. I started interacting with the kids at school when I was in kindergarten. But these are lovely kids you got. May God bless them 🙏😍🥰🤗😘 #AutismAwarenessMonth #Autism4Life💙🧩

We didn't have an inkling Zac was autistic until I was about 7 months pregnant with Alice and Zac was 2 years old. At first he really disliked her. He would pull her off my lap while I was nursing her and hit her. He also hated how loud she was. Then he began to ignore her for a bit. He's 4.5 years old now and they get along pretty well! She's figured out how to read him better and he has found ways to cope when he's overloaded. I feel like he's vocalizing more because he hears her chatting all the time. She loves her brother so much too! It was definitely hard at first but I couldn't imagine our family any other way. ❤

For the parents thinking about having another child if they already know their first is autistic is to go for it, but you have to be strong mentally as in the first few years it can be hard mentally...our son was diagnosed 1 month after my daughter was born, and I'm very greatful that we had a baby before knowing he was autistic because I think we wouldn't of had another child....I'm so thankful we did as I couldn't imagine life without her...but it was hard and it still is. I just think you have to think if your mental health is good enough first.

My 6 year old is neurotypical and my 5 year old is autistic. They are very close now but they have had a similar relationship. My 6 year old also has a a lot of sensory issues which makes it really hard because they both trigger each other. Ive found the best way for them to play is when they both have headphones on

So many things you're describing about your daughter are just typical toddler & preschool traits. Why does everything about a developing child have to have a name? Sensory issues, pricessing issues, regulating isdues, aversions, stimming, emotional issues from being double jointed?. How about a simple "every child is different, every child is emotional (thats a spectrum in itself) Every child has idiosynchrasies, every child (and adult) stims even if they or you dont realise it. Do they/you play with your hair, bite your nails, pick sores, jiggle your foot or leg or sit a "weird" way. Fidget with an object over and over. Its all stimming. As far as your kids communicating with each other, its no different to any family. No child lives nor knows anything but their "normal" so it will be and should be organic. These kids are still babies. Families have any and all mixes, personality types, it doesnt have to be about ASD or not ASD. There are families with a child who might be catastrophically brain damaged, physically challenged or both. Your son has ASD, he's not a zoo animal youre trying to habitate with a human family. Why does everything have to be so complicated. You have 2 kids, not 10 kids & every mother experiences competing priorities. A mother with a sick newborn and a 3 yr old will have struggles. Every parent has a unique set of circumstances & issues. We have friends with 5 kids, one is right up one end of the spectrum so is like 3 kids on his own. They just get on with it. The 4 typucal kids have their own issues too. Fighting, jealousy, targeting one or another. Every issue about patenting and sibling issues doesnt have to be about one child having ASD. Dont make it more than it is or needs to be. Lastly a 3yr old shouldnt have an iPad, thats ridiculous and a breeding ground for issues even when there is a so called typical family.
