Before I make my comment I want to say that this is in no way making a comment on whether you personally are a pessimist or not. That being said, I don’t agree w your definition of pessimism/ being a pessimist. The definition of pessimist is literally a person that tends to see the worst aspect of things. The definition of Realist is a person who accepts a situation as it is and is prepared to deal with it accordingly. The two can exist at the same time. I would argue that they often exist in tandem. Pessimism isn’t about a persons intent to hurt others around them it’s about a persons general outlook on life. And honestly, there is nothing wrong with being a bit pessimistic at times. Especially when there can be a tendency to be idealistic. It can help foster a more realist perspective. I feel like people often misuse the word, so it can lead to associations that aren’t there.

Thank you for sharing, I’m pinning your comment. I definitely was unsure of the words I used. I’m usually more structured in my videos. I appreciate what you wrote!

@@AnevaThank you for understanding! I was nervous my comment would be taken as ill intended, which is not the case, so I’m glad I wasn’t perceived that way! 😭♥️

@@RambleMaven no you’re totally fine! It’s really important for others to see. My 🧠 has been a little fried recently so I think we could all use a little help from time to time lol

Yes! Also, I think as autistic people we tend to lack the ability to use neurological heuristics, all those mental shortcuts most people use to be “good enough” quickly, while we’re far more accurate but slowly, and using a lot more energy to get there. I think we tend to take everything into account because that’s the only way we can evaluate our options. We can’t just hope for the best and ignore everything (until it inevitably breaks for the reasons we pointed out) like most people seem to. That, and everything you said too.

I'm the same way with money. I recently had to purchase a mower for my lawn service. I was glad l got a reliable mower, but it bothered me that I had to spend the money on it. I seem to deprive myself of things until l have no choice and they become a necessity.

I wonder how common this is, I’ve done the same with certain items! Much like the “If it’s not broken don’t fix it” motto

I can sometimes exaggerate negative possibilities and be too quick to talk about my overly negative predictions, but if that happens, I will correct myself quickly. However, I also know that a lot of "negative" predictions of mine have been accurate while a lot of other people employed wishful thinking about the same issue. A very good example of this is climate change. I am constantly flabbergasted and surprised how easily so many people can just completely ignore the real results of climate change and the news around it. I am honest about it and most of the things I say about it has been right, not because I am smart and the others are stupid, but because a lot of neurotypicals seem to be capable of ignoring or embellishing reality to support their emotional needs and wishes. They love nice and positive narratives, happy endings, uplifting stories and they seem to think that reality is boring and sad, so they can twist reality to conform to their state of mind. They tend to like stories, narratives that support their prejudices, wishes and beliefs, such as the idea of an ultimate caregiver (god) or that happiness lasts forever. They can have a hard time accepting a negative reality unless it's shrowded in an emotionally-fulfilling storyline that is based on their own desires and states of mind. Honestly, I think that neuronormativity can be delusional sometimes. And then we are accused of being pessimistic as in denying reality, even if we are the ones embracing reality in the face of denialism.

I am deep into philosophical pessimism-schopenhauer and thomas Ligotti, season one of true detective, I find pessimism to be the most cheering, indeed the only cheering thing most times, but I consider myself a realist as well. Looking so good, fall party!

"if i cant get this specific flavor im leaving." big fuckin mood lol!!! i do also disagree with your definition of pessimism. i think its a thinking style that favors looking at risks over looking at possibilities, but i dont think that theres necessarily an intention of bringing others down. i reckon its going to be associated with unhappiness just bc if youre always looking at the downsides of things and weighing things based on which is less bad, rather than which option has more positive potential, thats liable to focus a mind on everything unpleasant and lead to looking for flaws in everything, and probably missing great opportunities also. i view both optimism and pessimism as imbalance. the key difference, where i think we disagree, is whether a person thinks others should think the way they do. i dont think that is related directly with pessimism or optimism, but rather maybe a superiority thing (like "im thinking the right way and others should follow my lead")

yeah, I think it's working less well for me, as I age, because it is kinda a layer of pure ocd thinking that prevents enjoyment.

For me and my autism, I am willing to spend a large amount of money on things if I deem them worth it (though it does give me anxiety) but I have to research it to death before I will buy it. Customer reviews, consumer reports, fake spot to make sure the reviews aren’t fake etc
