Authorized LR Workshop Fail - Major Oil Leak
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We bought our 2015 Land Rover Discovery 4 SDV6 with an oil leak and a transmission problem. The transmission issue was fixed in a previous episode and this time we go after the 8HP70 transmission oil leak. Who could have predicted that this turns out to be a debacle. Hope you enjoy the video.

I admire your confidence Christian in tackling theses problems, great video, educational and entertaining.
My guess is the bottom bolt penetrated into the transfer box casing so you took the bolt out and put some sealant on a shorter bolt. All caused by the bolts being a different length.
You 2 are fantastic great sence of humour and what skill & knowledge you have

My try on the oil fault....... The bolt had broken though the inner casing of the TC, leaving a small crack on the bolt seat. As the bolt is at the lowest part of the TC it "sweated" out slowly. I am most probably wrong, I just like you guys so much that I had to take a swing at it. Thank you again for wonderful videos! Best wishes from Pretoria, South Africa

Excellent video as usual. Of course LR4 is my favourite topic along with LR Time. I found it easier to remove the exhaust and DPF complete rather than to try and disassembly those 3 rusty bolts on the rear DPF flange. Of course had to grind them off! Once the DPF is ready off, great idea to check the actual soot covering to see that your regen is really happening. Looking forward to the sequel today.

Some days you get the bear and some days the bear gets you!🙂 I greatly admire your skills here and that you have the humility to admit when you get stuff wrong. As someone not very mechanically inclined when young (or now), and motivated then by a low income not to get stuff done by garages, I had little choice but to do the simpler stuff myself. So many of my repairs on the wrecks I owned were done with an oily Haynes manual in one hand and a collection of things that might vaguely be described as tools in the other... Lots of swearing, skinned knuckles, ruined clothing and second or third attempts to get stuff working.

I have no idea what caused this oil leak, as I own a Toyota and do not have oil leak problems. The medical specialist say, “ if you use your brain to its maximum capabilities, it’s unlikely you will suffer with dementia”. I can positively say your going to be ok due to the usage of your brain. However as a Toyota owner I have no need to push my brain capabilities on Toyota repairs, I’m more likely to suffer with that brain memory disease, what ever it was called. Love you guys ❤.

Regarding corroded bolts, I always give the heads on mine a light covering of a thick grease. As long as the bolts are not directly in the path of road water, it prevents the heads from corroding. Note that I only grease the bolts once they are in place, I don't apply any grease to the underside of the bolt heads.
I'm guessing a simple turn to lock in the wiring sleeve for the mechatronic unit. I've done this repair on my LR3 and sympathize with you! Great video ✌🏻

Land Rover, is definitely a kind of car, that will make a owner/gearhead very happy. Plenty of things to do, and is really satisfying to fix it, and see everything woking properly.
I saw video my time 6am. I understand there are issues with the rear of that particular transmission ie: small crack or hole at the bottom right. It Can be fixed with metal putty to stop the leaking. Sorry about the time difference. Great video. 🤞🏻

Great video as always. Like watching a surgeon at the top of his game assisted by his awesome theatre nurse. Could Land Rover maybe have used wrong bolt?
Nice to see new videos from you guys ✌️. Please do not blame "Land Rover" for bad repairs. The guys from the dealers are unexperienced, they just don't think and it is not just the JLR dealers... For an 8HP70 oil leak concern from the back of the automatic transmission, the root cause of the leak, can also be a porosity issue with the case. I am happy to support ;)

The oil in the auto box was very clean, like new. If you just drain and re-lace the filter there is over 10 litres of old oil that remain in the box, mechatronics valve block and torque converter so the dealer or someone else must have done a full flush of the gear box… good news for you 👍 Also the colour of the oil looks like OEM ZF8 oil not a cheaper brand.

There's a little landrover knome hiding around the transmission area, he has a mini oil can and occasionally squeeze out a little oil just to confuse the situation.
I think the leak was as simple as the plug washer above where the plastic cup was placed. The one with the drip actually on it. I’ve seen hard or burred washers on drain and fill plugs many times.
Was it the gearbox vent tube leaking? Another quality video too.
