Authentic Mississippi Pot Roast Recipe | Easy Slow Cooker Meals
This Mississippi Pot Roast Recipe was requested by a subscriber a while back. In researching this recipe, I was able to trace it back to its roots.
The origin of the Mississippi Pot Roast can be traced back to a resident of Ripley Mississippi by the name of Robin Chapman in the 1990's. In an effort to make her aunt's Pot Roast Recipe less spicy and appealing to her children she changed up the recipe a bit creating the now famous Mississippi Pot Roast.
Mississippi Pot Roast Ingredients:
* 3 to 4 Pound Roast Of Your Choice. (I used Chuck Roast)
* 1 Stick Of Butter
* 1 Packet of Au Jus Gravy Mix
* 1 Packet Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix
* I Jar Pepperoncini with amount and juice to taste

    Wait till you drive for ten years you will want to stay home. Great recipe looks good. On an Italion roll think that would be good.

    I made Mississippi pot roast in my Instant Pot. I used a trick I learned online, and it'd probably work well for a slow cooker as well. I put foil packets of small potatoes, and another foil package for carrots, and sat them on top of the meat for cooking. I found the potatoes didn't take on the flavour of the meat...which isn't a bad thing, but I liked them better as a side dish (I put butter/salt/pepper into the foil package). This recipe takes 1 hour, 5 minutes in the Instant Pot. Then I used the juices on the Instant Pots saute function to boil it up, add a butter/flour slurry to thicken it up. The gravy was marvelous with the tangy (but not too spicy) taste of the peppers. I couldn't find pepperonchini (we're in Canada, sometimes it's difficult to find the same ingredients), so instead I used jarred banana peppers from Costco (and they were cut up, not whole). But it all worked out beautifully.

    I know this recipe went viral a couple years ago but for some reason I still didn’t hear about it. It’s not the kind of thing I’d think to make because I’ve never had peppercini’s before because I don’t do spicy food. I tried this recipe just a few months ago while at a friend’s house and I couldn’t believe how yummy it was. I had to have the recipe. Also I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked peppercini’s. They aren’t spicy at all. Just a great flavor (I love vinegar). I now make my friend make this meal for me when I go babysit for her once or twice a month. It’s actually my pay. 😂 I’d like to have her add a sliced onion and some carrots too.

    This is a recipe that I will try for my meat eating friends and family. I have to make something for the unveiling party for my new kitchen. This may just be the star of the show. Like you I would be tempted to add a bunch of things but I need to stick to the recipe for the first time.

    OK, out comes the roast from the freezer. I've made this a few times and the last time I used the Pepperoncini juice and it seemed too salty/vinegary. This time I'll do it with no liquid like TOS Tin Man makes roast. Thanks Lyle.

    This is the second unhealthiest pot roast on the internet. That's over 21,706 mg of sodium in one pot roast. And we're not counting the salt in the mashed potatoes either. Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing = 2240 mg/packet McCormick Au Jus = 3600 mg/packet 1 16 oz bottle of Mezzetta Peperoncini (with brine) = 15,166 mg mg (I'm counting only 1/2 the brine here) 1 stick of butter = 700 mg That's a total of 21,706 mg Sodium for one pot roast. If the pot roast serves 4 people, each person would consume 5426.5 mgs of Sodium. For 6 servings it is 3617 mg. The American Heart Association recommends and ideal limit of no more than 1,500 mg per day for most adults. This one portion of pot roast would be more than double that limit for the entire day, and that's just 1 serving of food! Yikes!
