Autel MaxiTPMS TS501 used on a Subaru Outback | Man About Home

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Autel MaxiTPMS TS501 used on a Subaru Outback. I change between two full sets of Summer tires/wheels and Winter tires/wheels twice a year, on two Subaru Outbacks. Each time the wheel sets are swapped, the TPMS system needs to relearn the TPMS codes for the new sets of wheels. I use an Autel MaxiTPMS TS501 tool to do this. I find it to be an easy and efficient way to avoid spending the time and money on four annual garage appointments to do this simple task. Worth every penny!
I'm not an expert on TPMS, but let me know if I can help with any questions you may have about using the Autel TS501 on your Subaru. I might be able to help.

Thank you. 8/27/2023. I purchased a TS501, and the menus have changed a bit. On mine, to get to Relearn, one must be in the System menu. Your instructions were just what I needed to see the process.

Just had to come back and say thanks! Helped so much. Scored one of these off ebay for not much. Great for same application as yours and our other vehicle keeps track of each location. Watched your vid closely before my first try and had successful first try in minutes. Over the moon to not have to stop into shop multiple times a year.

I can tell you what RKE & RF stood for. They stood for Remote Keyless Entry & Radio Frequency. Useful for checking the keyfob's signal strength and identifying the radio frequency. As for the TS501 you're using, you did an impressive job doing the relearn.

@@manabouthome No worries. There is one feature I can also tell you. You can also program up to 16 blank Autel MX TPMS sensors at the same time (when running the latest software in the TS501 or TS601). Just select the make, model, and year of the vehicle you're working on. Then choose MX Sensor and select wheel position you want to work on (regardless of wheel position). From that menu, you have four options: Copy by OBD, Copy by Activation, Manual Create, and Auto Create 1-16 Sensors. I use a TS508 with the Autel MX 1-Sensor (a combination of 315 MHz and 433 MHz frequencies in one TPMS sensor) at my workplace and it's been a time saver when it comes to TPMS service.

speaking of cool features, so I had 1 oem sensor go bad, so i used the tool to walk around testing to find which one it was completely independent from using the obd diagnostic option; I found and had a set of new generic compatible sensors handy, so, since the vehicle couldn't 'read' the bad sensor i set one of the new sensors on the passenger seat and used the obd 'repair' option which found the new sensor and put it in the place of the failed one logically and cleared the code, I was so happy I immediately put the outback into the garage and popped bead, swapped sensor and done. The best part is I now have 3 more spares and a cool tool so i can not only get more data anytime but change them for about $10 each from now on. I must say though that we wouldn't need the tool if subaru would just do tpms like other mfrs, they shouldn't care what sensors are used just that there are 4 within proximity, a $20 activation pinger is all you sometimes need for gm.

I don't actually know what the sensors are. They were in the wheels/rims when I got them. I'm pretty sure the sensors in the steel rims on my 2009 are aftermarket. I believe the sensors in my 2014 are a Schrader universal type. They were purchased from Walmart when we originally got the Winter tires mounted. What you saw in the video is the extent of my knowledge about TPMS! I'm no expert. I just figured I have 8 good sensors that are from random Subarus, so they should work, and it turns out they do. A previous commenter said the Autel MX universal programmable sensors work well. Subaru OEM are Schrader TPMS sensors. Thanks for watching and commenting!

If you want to use the TS501 to set IDs in sensors, then yes, they have to be Autel brand. One gentleman wanted to have two complete sets of wheels with matching IDs, so he could just change them out as the seasons change without doing anything else. That would require using at least 4 Autel sensors. My Subaru wheels have original Subaru equipment Schrader TPMS sensors. My steel Winter wheels have some other brand... I don't know what they are. But you can scan the codes from other brands and Relearn (download) them to the computer, and that works just fine. I'm planning to replace my Summer tires and TPMS sensors. So, I purchased Subaru (Schrader) TPMS sensors. I already tested them, so I know I can scan their codes. But I can't change their codes. Thank you for watching and commenting!

It will read and download other brands. Not just Autel. However, if you want to program a sensor with a duplicate ID, so you have WInter wheels and Summer wheels with matching IDs, one set will need to be Autel. This reads other brands, but it doesn't program IDs to other brands. It's not a problem for me. I put all new Schrader TPMS sensors in my wheels when I installed new tires. I was able to read and download their IDs, no problem. Thanks for watching and commenting.
