This week Schony747 is at Shepparton Railway Station to film the arrival, locomotive run around, couple up and departure of the V/Line Passenger Locomotive Hauled consist. The Shepparton line is the next to move from Diesel Locomotive Hauled passenger trains to the Bombardier V/Line Vlocity unit. The changeover is predicted for the middle of October 2022 so I took a drive up to Shepparton Railway Station which is around 2 and a half hours north of Melbourne in The Goulburn Valley to video the movement one more time. Normally an N Class Diesel Locomotive and N Passenger Cars, this consist was N453 and interurban H Cars which are normally used on the shorter distance services.
The loco hauled services are slowly disappearing so enjoy this piece of history. Be sure to check out the train playlist below - Have a great week - Brenden S.

PTV are idiots for getting rid of the N Class, @@Schony747. They should have kept them running, since they were obviously popular.

Between nearly thirty years service as Harris electric vehicles and the best part of four decades as loco hauled or Push-pull, the various Victorian railway administrations have got tremendous value from the H class coaches. I was privileged to travel on, view and photo them.

They have got value out of both the N and H sets. Locally made at Newport and a quality build

Loui the Fly, That's what I was wondering. On my sitting room wall, I have a photo of 453 in red & yellow, on an Albury bound train at Seymour sg platform. (2012).

Memories. The platform road continued through the level crossing, and formed the line to Dookie before it was closed. It's a pity the N sets are finishing, their 1st class was excellent. I remember their introduction in the early 80s. The N class locos followed. Back when I lived there, there were only two trains a day, in each direction, going through to Cobram. This was cut back to Shepp in 1983, and the whole service was threatened. Our protest committee became quite influential. For a while, the Shepp service was privately run, using V/Line locos, drivers and rolling-stock, by Hoy's Buses of Wangaratta. I haven't been up there for years, but there are now much increased services on that line, I understand. I hope the Vlocitys have the snack bar like the N sets, very useful.

N snack bar Bruce but as you say with a bit of pressure anything can change in the future. I think there are 4 or 5 services in each direction these days and the faster Vlos should quicken travel time as well. It's all about progress and fleet standardisation for V/Line. Let's hope the Goulburn Valley jumps on board and accepts the new service.

Sad to hear loco hauled services will soon be no more to Shepparton too. I still have yet to go on an N class and was kinda hoping to do Shepparton but that's now a no-go as I don't think I'll make it in time. Any idea what/when the next line to switch to Vlocities will be or which lines (I know Warrnambool and Swan Hill but are there others?) still have N classes, whether regular or not? (I know Bairnsdale has one return service a day.)

Monday to Friday you will still get loco hauled to Bacchus Marsh and Geelong during the peaks. Warrnambool is the next line mentioned for Vlocity conversion.

These cars are why we in the regional and rural areas do NOT want electrification of our train lines. Toilets, water, airline style seats with actual seat cushions and food or book trays and not spike laden steel seats like in the city cars, and luggage racks also.

Nice video. Well, in that case, I might as well ride one of the services probably as far as Seymour or all to Shepparton prior to the fleet changeover. I haven’t been to Shepparton in like a year as I was there for a pit-stop during a road trip to Echuca. 9:30 - The air-conditioning on the H set kinda sounds like the Comeng even though there are no electric equipment underneath lol

@@Schony747 Well, good thing is that I did, for the whole journey to Shepparton and then two hours later, bus to Seymour and then Sprinter to Melbourne on Sunday. Had to do it early because I’m going up to Queensland for a week soon, which wasn’t good timing. Pity the state government is also getting rid of onboard catering and first class which are both backward steps…
