Australian stone construction from Indigenous to European | First Nation Farmers Ep6 | ABC Australia

Australia has perhaps the world’s oldest aquaculture system. Indigenous people built it to farm eels thousands of years ago. Then in colonial times, farmers again turned to stone to build beautiful walls now being lovingly rebuilt. Landline 2015. Subscribe: kzread.info?sub_...

Hundreds of miles of drystone walls where I am in Cumbria, some of them hundreds of years old. I've spent a good few days over the past 50 years helping maintain them.

During the famine (1845 - 48) the british gouverment forced the starving population of Ireland, to build miles of this kind of walls, even if they were of no use at all.
