For people who are waiting for visa grant, these changes will not affect. Reason, once you are nominated your application is with DHA and not with the respective state. The reason for the reducing of the numbers is to bring the visa backlog numbers down and we can expect to see the grants coming in bulk soon. Important note: This is a temporary decision and we will surely see the state nomination quotas increased very soon. So don't loose hope. All the best to everyone!

However, every 190/491 visa applicant counts towards FY quota. We don’t know how much backlog DOHA has on 190 and 491. Given the huge reduction though, one has to guess maybe their backlog is too much. The last thing federal government wants is going back to Scott Morrison’s disastrous 1 million backlogs. I hope someone can file an FOI so everyone will know the backlog situation and be prepared for it.

Hi, thanks for the informative video Karl, it just sheds light on how big a role politics plays on your life as an immigrant. Just because the government hasn’t been able to influence the immigration conversation they’ve done what is either a PR stunt or gone against its own industry requirements. Could you maybe do a video on how other countries might benefit from this? Countries in Europe might be the biggest beneficiaries.

Quick question - if one is offshore and waiting for the 190 grant, would moving offshore to another country (also offshore) constitute as a ‘significant change’ whilst waiting for the 190 grant to come though and should an update to DHA be necessary in this instance? Thanks so much for your advice Karl!

I have a question, I submitted a single EOI for Business System Analyst for 189 and 190 with 80 and 85 points respectively. Is one EOI okay, or should I amend that EOI and submit another for 190, and if so, why do I need to submit two separate applications?

@@ailsaustraliabut they didn't. They invited so many in tens of thousands, took their money and leisurely waiting without processing them. Before inviting more they should finish the backlog. There are a lot of offshore applicants waiting for the grants. They will certainly help the skill shortages. Once the backlog is cleared they should do monthly rounds of smaller numbers which they can handle. Then grant them within one month. No backlog. Just apply and get processed faster.

Not to mention when people receiving invitation has to wait until the visa is granted to do the following things: 1. Find a better and stabler job (no one sane corporation will hire a BVA holder long term, period) 2. Find a partner. (Visa applicant cannot enter de facto relationship if they were single otherwise partner points will be gone and their visa will be refused/cancelled later) 3. Buy a house through mortgage. (No bank will approve loans longer than visa length, and I bet they have no interest approving loans for BVA holders either) 4. Start/Operate some type of businesses. (You cannot get loans. Renting places can become troublesome. Wary about visa conditions. Difficult to travel. Etc etc) And possibly many more.

Hi Karl, thanks once again for the great content, even when it is indeed to bring disheartening news. I am sure there are several people who, like me, payed 100 thousand dollars (or more) for education at government universities, only to see this sudden drop, which likely slashes our chances. I have one practical question on the matter, though: rumours say that it may be counterproductive to register interest for 190 state nomination whilst at the same time lodging for 189. Are these true, or should it be safe to express interest to however many skilled visas I want?

Hi Karl, thank you for the update on the state quotas! I had a query with regards to the 491 - 191 pathway, as per what the home affairs website mentions, we must meet the 491 visa requirements. I wanted some clarity for the 491 visa conditions where it states that one must live study and work in a regional area. There are 2 main questions: 1. If I applied directly through a NSW RDA and got an invite from the specific region I applied in, am I bound to stay in the nominated region & state (NSW), or I can move to another region in the same state or another state llike VIC or SA without compromising my 491 conditions so as to remain eligible for the 191. 2. If I am able to live and study (for kids) in the nominating region but cannot find a job that matches my skill, is it possible to have my job in a non regional area where I can commute daily and come back, given I would be living and doing all my expenses in the regional area, just not working there because of lack of opportunities. Any insight on these would help greatly! Thanks!

Have spent so much money time and effort to get skills assessed , score high on English and CCL to get above that 65 threshold and this wait and watch game has ensured that I am kicked out . While other younger aspirants can afford to wait for 5-6 months / new points system / more clarity on increasing quota I can’t , all thanks to this stupid decision of theirs . Is it possible to raise it with them to consider people who will be dropping points for age in next few months or not drop age related points for one year to give them a fair chance , till they sort out their internal issues of backlog politics .
