This is absolutely CRAZY! Props to Landeg for their journey and drawing *every single Olympic sport for three characters* like WOW

For "not a Furry artist," Landeg is _damned_ good at it! I adore Surfer 'Roo and Hockey 'Roo is *so handsome!* Lizzie is pretty cute too. I hope this leads to anthro comics and images becoming more popular because there are lots of Furry artists who deserve to be known and loved! There are some Furry publishers, (and their stables of artists), who deserve to be wealthier. too.

It would be nice if that turned into a new avenue, but therein lies the elephant in the room: NSFW content. Our fandom produces...I wouldn't say a lot, but a good amount of it. Would that back people away like it historically has already? Would furries resurface as sexual perverts once more? One step forward and two steps back maybe? Anime seems to be more confident having an anthro cast in a way that isn't immediately kid-friendly (Hamtaro, Jewel Pets, Yokai Watch, etc) and there are even a couple of adult animated content on Netflix and other streaming services that are well-received. That doesn't mean there's going to be an immediate boom: it took from the 60's to the early 90's or so for anime to get it's foothold, and even then people didn't realize it was a Japanese product upfront (localizing it meant scrubbing away some of its native cultural artifacts). It wasn't until like the early 2000's that people realized its true origin and what anime really was according to its original culture. I don't expect furry to take as long. We do have the internet to speed things up now, and heck furry has been around as long as anime (some pioneer furries from the 70's and 80's even aided the anime boom). So who knows at this point what happens?

@@LightningRunner Remember that anthro-characters are still in the 'age ghetto' where all animation used to live, at least in western culture. Hard to see for someone immersed in some internet subcultures, but to wider society anthro characters mean only fit for children. That is slowly being overcome.

Love how you manage to resource the mascot history/early design. Every other news article about the mascot that I read didn't even cover that aspect of the story.

My dad works at woolies and they had some spare banners at the back of the store that they weren't gonna use, so my dad brought one of them home for me cuz he realised how furry they look lmao

Man. I'm glad that they understood the weight behind a good design behind both the fandom and the advertising/exc. And something tells me they weren't deaf to the fandom behind the scenes either when choosing just what direction to go through.

My heart literally melted like the sun! I literally feel like Landeg and I have so much in common! Do I like the furry fandom?: Yes! Do I love to do art of anime?: Yes! Am I very skilled at art?: Yes (kinda)! Do I do anthro furry arts?: Sadly no... I haven't had much art classes despite the fact that I'm a natural at art, and I ain't that skilled at that stuff yet! It literally feels like both Landeg and I have the same interests in the fandom but have had different outcomes of how our arts came out! And Landeg, if your seeing this, I think you're doing tons better than what I'm going through! But I hope you'll do well in the future! I hope ya stay safe, stay healthy man, and live life like a FURRY legend!! ;)

As of right now, I’m finishing up lineart for an animal-esqu monster on my tablet and I actually found out that I enjoy making my own species. Yes, I was but still am a humanoid artist(creating a main oc for my pfp that isn’t my skykid) but I enjoy drawing unnatural and unrealistic animals/monsters The last bits at the end really boosted my motivation to freaking Pluto so I’m really enjoying drawing with that motivation. I'm an Aussie furry (so rare ik) and it's so weird being messaged asking abt furry coins LMAO, but it's genuinely cool seeing the behind the scenes and finding out the artist!

#QNA: Have you ever seen a wickerbeast or a protogen fursuit at a con?

First to comment here. TBH, our national sporting teams have furry themed nicknames. Like our national men’s soccer (football) team here in Australia aka the Socceroos or Olyroos (Olympic football) and most of our sporting teams in Australia besides our Netball teams and women’s soccer teams are named around kangaroos. Or within the family of such. Also OMY, I adore the kangaroo characters in the Olympic hero’s promo that they should be considered as official mascots of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. And not only that but also used as pictograms of such considering there is every roo and lizzie for each event.

Okay.... so if someone official makes a mascot of these characters to help cheer on their country during the Olympics... wouldn't that be a fursuit since it's a 'sona? XD

Oh I can totally see him being asked if he would like to be the guest of honor at an Australian furry convention. Now if he accepts or not that is a totally different story but the offer being put forward that I can see.

In the late 1950's to mid-60's, there used to be a Woolworths department store in the shopping center close to my home in Rockville, Maryland - USA. I really miss it. Good to see the company has survived to this day, if on the other side of the planet from me.

What I realy like about this is, that they paid a real artist to do the job and not some advertising agency that in the end comes up with some soulless boring mainstream design that no one realy likes. Tax money well spend Australia.👍😎

we have a lot of creative names for our mascots! I mean boxing kangaroo is genius. I still can't get over the entire anthro mascots representing our country thing it's so surreal! It's strange! I had an obsession with kangaroos with boxing gloves on just a few months ago. In fact, I even wanted a plushie of it, and learned it was an Aussie mascot for the Olympics (or at least, that was what I thought). I do wonder why there is such a negative connotation towards boxing in the media now for boxing kangaroo to be retired. Don't get me wrong! I looooove the new characters and their designs! I am from America, and honestly a bit jealous that we don't have these roos. No, I have zero idea what our mascot(s) is/are.
