As if the Aussie crowds are saints... I have seen footages of them showing their fingers and abusing opponent players. They have issue with every touring team. Clearly the issue is with their behaviour... Australian cricket public is the worst for any touring team to play cricket including their media and the fans at the ground. They are bullies. The crowds are only bad because of Warner stirring the whole thing up. South Africans don't take kak (nonsense) from anyone as we are fighters - Kevin Pieterson showed them that too when playing for England. Had Lehman and CA controlled their players and not had the sledging, the SA crowds would not taunt them back. Just like Aussies we have our own tall poppy syndrome.

incorrect. Handscomb (who was in at the time) told him to look upstairs not knowing you couldn't do that because he had very little knowledge of the the DRS system. Obviously Smith as captain shouldn't have done and leade from the front

Theo Pollard Handscomb was one of the drs referral incident in that match. Aus team did it repeatedly in the same match and Virat Kohli reported to umpires also. Handscomb incident finally got highlighted. Watch Virat Kohli's press conference on the issue. He rightly called it out as "cheating"

It's obvious Smith is covering for Lehmann. Both Smith and Lehmann should be held more accountable than Bancroft. Bancroft was in a position of reliance and was clearly coerced into tampering with the ball.

I'm curious which would be more disgraceful to Lehman. The South African crowds, or his leadership team. I've been defending the Aus team a couple of times in conversations with my SA countrymen. Not sure I'll be doing that again any time soon.

bad mojo don't get me wrong. I'm a patriotic Saffa, that enjoys nothing more than seeing us beat Aus in a cricket match. I just think that there is more to the Rabada/Smith incident than just jumping to the defense of your own country's players. This is a nasty one though. Reminds me of the Hansie Cronje debacle. I was a big supporter of the man, was a bitter pill to swallow back in the day. Premeditation weighs heavy here and I feel for Bancroft, I'm not convinced that he was a willing participant. I was sickened to learn that Cronje approached junior/fringe players to do his match fixing bidding, get the same feeling here.

I’m English and I always admired the way that Australia would play the game hard but fair. Look at the respect and sportsmanship during the 2005 ashes between the 2 teams. Then that happened. Lehmann knew exactly what was going down.

Australia has been my favourite team after my own country since 1997 (first time I ever watched a world cup). I have always been there for them even when rest of them always questioned their honesty in cricket. but now after this incident, my respect for them is fading away. it's not just about performance, it's also about the game spirit

It is amazing that when he says 'it didn't work' he is referring to the fact that their attempt at tempering the ball didn't cause the ball to get changed by the umpires (their goal). Like wow. Even while admitting to cheating, he is still disappointing the umpires didn't change the ball to for fill their cheating aims. Is he insane?

Steven Smith should be banned from Cricket for a year... That's the only way to teach these Cheating bastards a lesson.... This is even worse than match-fixing, trying to win by CHEATING... They are only honest now, because they got caught and have no other options... It is embarrasing and humiliating itself, but this cannot go unpunished... Smith should be taken out of Captaincy and banned for atleast a year...!

As an Australian I am disgusted. As a cricket lover I am appalled. Smith is the Australian Cricket Captain. The highest honour in Australian sport. He discussed it, organised it, took the field of play knowing what was going to be done and then actively took part in making Bancroft aware and to hide the tape. Smith has to be immediately stood down and ordered back to Australia.

Deeply saddened to see this happening in Test cricket, I am big fan of the format , all this negativity will not augur well for the game. This is as bad as match fixing!!! Strict action must be taken to get this nipped in the bud!!! Zero tolerance for cheating in the Gentleman's game.
