100% couldn’t agree more! It’s commendable that he still protecting his team , but it has cost him. The psychological impact on him has been profound - in 2020 his form dropped so bad he couldn’t even make the WA state side. Hope he works things out, gets back to his true potential and can express his talent in middle

How can Smith, Warner and management asked a youngster to do this at the very start of his career? He is such a class player. And that incident wasted his 5 years. He is the most consistent opener in Sheffield Shield in last few years. It really hurts to see him out of the team.

Hope to see you playing in the next ashes series. I wish you well with the rest of your career. No one can judge you for your past. Only on what you are when you stand in front of them.

Cam all I can say is it takes a lot of guts to get out there in front of the media and say sorry that you did the wrong thing (And not just You) I think your honesty here in this interview really shows the true man you are and how you have learnt from a past mistake coming from within an Australian team culture that wanted to win at all costs.....I still take my hat of to you for courage after the fact.

I feel really sad that Dave/Smith targeted the youngest and most vulnerable person in the team to action the tampering. Let us have compassion and forgive this young man. He has learned from his mistake. My thing is the 3 could not be the only guys in the team who knew about it. The 3 that were impacted were batters surely the bowlers saw the condition of the ball changing. Secondly CA issued punishment that where ineffective. The times they were punished for left them available to play when their team were in big matches and T20 WC.

Yeah that’s the sad thing however we can’t accuse anyone if and until the full story. With everything that we know now I think that Cameron and Smith are good blokes and have learned there lesson and the test show coming out we have learned that the whole Australian team has changed the way they act on and off the field as the new head coach Justin Langer has showed. I’m not to sure on how David Warner has been lately however we do know about plenty of times where he has crossed the line with abusing opponents on the field and with strong evidence pointing towards him match fixing, so Warner is a different story I can’t make a judgment on how he should be handled by the fans and the icc. I think most people blew it out of proportion, yes they cheated, but they have learned there lesson there is no room for abuse in the game and people shouldn’t only see these people as cheaters but as human beings some people still haven’t forgiven them yet it should never be forgotten but we should forgive.

I feel really sorry for him, he got pushed into doing something by his captain and Warner so he was screwed either way, of course he shouldn't have done it, and yes he lied about it after, but I think he's not to blame. He was peer-pressured into it, now we see Warner and Smith back to playing intl. Tests like nothing ever happened, Smith even got the captaincy back for a match (admittedly due to covid but still...) and Bancroft's career and mental state was shot forever. He was put into the same situation as Trevor Chappell, forever being remembered for getting forced to do something wrong which cost him an international test career. Sorry for that mate.

He has changed his bowling action... He is 31 already, as a fast bowler who wants to play for long time he needs to make sure his body is not under too much stress or it may break down(Ahish Nehra has had a ton of surgeries cuz of this). Any bowler would rather bowl for 15-20 years without much swing in last the 5-10 years rather that swing the ball for 10-12 years and put your body at risk.

Such a real and honest account of a mistake that lead to serious consequences ... he knows exactly what he did and how a silly decision affected so much. Agreed he wasn't alone and there are many reasons why but bottom line is the journey of acceptance and learning, he is such a mature person and a great player. There are so many people in this world who would have done exactly the same as this trio, and thats Bancroft, Warner AND Smith ... they all played a role and all are truly sorry .... there is nothing more real in life than the pre & post-event thought processes which are usually completely different - people do these things every single day in different aspects of life, those that say they don't, probably just don't get caught. Hope to see you back now Warner has retired Cam.

A little I feel sorry for him, now that he’s explained himself, ofcorse does not excuse the act. Though I don’t quite agree with the kudos towards him for not appealing, I mean he made a statement that he was intending to, no? And changed his mind later ofcorse cos all three ended up not appealing. And to compare what he’s done to people applying “mint saliva” on the ball I think is unfair, inequitable - what they’ve done was unbelievably shockingly wicked. Bigs up to him though for owning up to his mistakes, perhaps someday in the future we all will move past this and this incident will not be the first thing that comes to mind when we hear his name

People felt sorry for Steve Smith & David Warner when they should’ve been feeling sorry for Cameron Bancroft. He was bullied and forced into partaking in this ball tampering scandal by his captain and vice captain and he got punished for it. Obviously what he did was wrong as well but Smith & Warner were the masterminds and in all honesty they should’ve gotten harsher punishments for this scandal. Bancroft’s promising career was cut short because of it regardless.

If, for example, a student is caught cheating on an exam and is consequently judged for his actions would it make sense for that student to argue that he should not be judged because those judging him are not without sin?

As an England cricket fan I wonder if it happened in the 2017/18 ashes?? I will say that they made a mistake, they’ve been punished and I hope they’ve learned from it. They deserve a 2nd chance though. Everyone who makes a mistake does. He got back in the test team for the 2019 Ashes in England. That was a remarkable achievement. Unfortunately he didn’t have the best series and was dropped. I still think he’s one of the best opening batsmen available to Australia at the moment. Pucovski is probably the future opener if he can get his fitness sorted. I think Bancroft has had his time in the test team for now though.

From my point of view, there is a lot in this interview which suggests his moral compass is still not quite right. He talks about wanting to front up and tell the truth to the umpires yet at the same time he was still lying about what he used. That lie was deliberate, it wasn't misspoken, it was considered and suggests that he hadn't learnt. I really don't understand his comments following Gily's question about lying about the tape. It just sounds like trying to detract from the question to query why people were focusing on what was used. If he is genuinely contrite then he would be fully honest about the lie and why he lied again. The shame about the whole thing is that I am not sure all the lessons have been learned. Captain Grumpy hit the nail on the head when he questioned the scope of the investigation and the findings. Unless the boys are fully upfront about the situation, we will never know, but I'm sorry to say this, but there is enough to suggest that this wasn't the first time and in fact that Cameron was involved in cheating in England before the saffa series.

With no moral compass, some people don;t know the difference between right and wrong behaviour. Their only consideration is "can I benefit from it?" Newsflash to all young players trying to "fit in" - SCORE MORE RUNS!!! You could ask yourself "What would Jesus do?" but that is no longer fashionable.

Whether you do it for game,or for team or for individual, you have brain and you decided to do it. You need pay for that. For God sake 🙏 don't ever sympathise for such incidents and people. They were supposed to ban for life time but they ran away from that. God is still generous to these liars and cheaters of the game. We got to know since we had seen this incident live in TV.
