Australia: North Queensland underwater after worst flood in decades

Queensland’s far north has been flooded by heavy rainfall from ex-tropical cyclone Jasper.

More than 2 metres of rain fell in less than a week, breaking records for December. Residents were left without access to power, food and drinking water, and many homes were inundated with water. Locals were urged to be wary of crocodiles swimming through local streets.

Ahh yes! The QLD floods . Lived through many of these in Cairns between 1983-92. Hope the folks inland along the Barron River are ok. 🙏 Stay safe Aussies. Don’t by property that’s under 30ms above regular water levels. 🫣😏

With climate change, no geography will be safe from natural disasters. Flash floods in regions where floods weren't so common can sweep houses from the hills even. Hold your hats, folks.

Ohhh it must be global warming, climate change. Mmmm! Maybe not! In some parts of inland Queensland, riverine flooding can spread thousands of square kilometres for weeks or even months at a time. Related weather events include tropical cyclones, lows, monsoon troughs. Flash flooding happens where there is a lot of rain in a short period of time. Its just natural Mr and Mrs Guardian!

No! No! No! Haven't you got the message? If there is a flood it is caused by man made global warming! More rain? Definitely man made global warming! If there is a drought its caused by man made global warming! Less rain? Man made Global warming! Hang on, I'll give your e-mail address to Greta Thunburg. If only there was a way to drain all this floodwater into the desert. Maybe in huge floodgates and underground pipes. Sure, it would cost a lot, but these floods are just going to increase in number and size in the future, so capturing it before it does damage and, via the appropriate filters, sending it to the drought-stricken farms could well pay for itself before long. In the meantime, I'm really sorry for all those affected by this disaster.😢

@@tentringer4065 Yeah - I used to believe that, too, until I looked a little further and deeper into the people and institutions that have been pushing the idea for the last 30 years. The COP28 was the latest example - all these elitists flying in private jets halfway across the world enjoying banquets while they tell us we are eating up all the world's resources and blighting the planet. i have ONE rule that has never let me down. I only take people who practice what they preach seriously, I only follow people who lead by example - and I look into the background of anyone who tells me I need to sacrifice on their behalf.
