For a 70's product of BL, she was in remarkable condition.
I started watching the princess playlist, highly recommended.
Well, I think I'll go through the archive and watch the whole thing... 🇬🇧👍
Liked that.
Many thanks for the recap on this car. You did an amazing job on this car, and I thank you so much for bringing back the memories.... Did you know they made stretch limo versions of the 2200 Princess? I Tried to buy one that was advertised in the newspaper back in the 1990's. I telephoned the seller, but he said, "I gave up trying to sell it, so I sent it to the scrap yard". I telephoned the scrapyard and they said "Sorry mate, we sold it an hour ago". It turns out, it was the Mayor of Romsey, Hamshire, England's car when it was New. What a great choice he made 🙂
Really enjoyed this recap, great format.. Would love to see more..
Yes is always hard letting a car go that triggers such fond childhood memories Seppo ☹️ but look on the bright side 🤔 you still another 30 cars to play with 😁 , oh sorry : ( if Mrs Seppo is reading this he only has 3 cars left in collection 😂
Cool ✌
Registered the same year as the Queens Silver Jubilee. It was a good , but cold year.
I really like the look of the older one with four headlights, looks a little like the front end of a BMW... Fun walkthrough... 👍
That's the thing about restoring stuff, when you reach the end, there's that "now what?" moment, though in my case it's usually stuff I can keep around as they don't take up much houseroom (despite what I get told!), unlike cars which are a bit harder to put on a shelf and admire... :P

Hehe.. yea... I can tell you that it just happened again! back to driving the Abarth.. :P
Thank you for yet another excellent video: they are all so watchable.
I also have childhood memories of Princess and some other British cars. My dad had a Hillman Imp -64, Morris 1800 MK1 -67, Austin Maxi 1750 -73 and Princess 1800 HL -78. Maybe that's why I have similar cars now. I'm glad I found your channel!

Oh I forgot about the morris 1800s we had 2 bother resprayed on the drive, mum hated the colour of 1 so we had to paint it back to mustered. Morris Oxford with a hole in the floor so me n sister could put rubbish through the hole then watch it through the back window. Just lost dad n these are the sort of thing that keep him alive in memories
I have the same 2200 HLS car manual shifted in copper metallic red , rare left steering export version for Europe (found it in Germany 10 years ago) it has done 90.000 KM and in OK shape (was standing for around 20 years in a barn). Brakes are restored and engine runs nicely with completely redone SU carbs and new AC Delco fuel pump....Just looking for a new or good used gas tank and the gas suspension bulbs need some fresh re gassing with Nitrogen, I already own a former BL workshop fluid pump by Churchill industries :-)
What a way to start my morning, travelling Northern Norway and watching you revive such a lovely Princess. Have a soft spot for these British cars, friends of our family lived in the UK, as a kid we often visited them. And I was fascinated by these cars, because you hardly saw these in the Netherlands. [Getting old and reminiscent 😂] Anyway.... Appreciate your craftsmanship. Last week on the Isle of Andøya I suddenly stopped, my wife asks me "why"? Told her to look in the front garden of the house we've stopped. Snow-covered there stood a beige Austin Maxi😂 My wife: " an old car?can we move on now!" Best Dutch greetings to you. Looking forward to see more videos, so I subscribed 👍🏻 Take care😎
Keep up the good work👍
My dad had the mk1 1800cc then a mk2 1700cc then the ambassador 1700cc. Which I learnt to drive in. I always said we should have a 2.2. I think they did a black special that would be 1 to find these days
Snap. My dad bought a brand new 1978 2200 HL in the same colour. Like many BL cars from that time it had many running issues but it had a wonderful floating ride as it glided along the road. Not quite so good on roundabouts though. Subbed.
I like the format of this clip video! Very interesting!
Looks identical to the one my grandfather had 😎
It is really nice to hear that the Princess has gone to a loving home and is being used regularly by an enthusiast who'll look after it properly. So it should be around for a long time, hopefully delighting people who see it, maybe at classic car shows. I think I enjoyed this renovation by you more than any of the others, except perhaps for the Skoda 105. But you had very good value for content out of both of them.

I enjoyed the skoda and the princess having owned both these cars myself, in their day both were generally unloved which meant they were affordable to me as they got older.
Can hardly wait to see the 924 video.
You wouldn’t need a radio in that Princess. Sounds lovely! I’d love to see you do a Peugeot 104 one day. There’s a French fella did one on his channel Hello Road. I’m sure they’re as rare over there as they are here though….!
I miss the Princess, it's the reason I subscribed. I wish you'd said it was back but it was not to be. Maybe you will do a Mertle aka Hubnut, I will live in hope.

Yea its part of my life with cars.. they come and go.. in a rather high speed! (not the cars.. :P )
It was a nice project 👍
I remember seeing the princess live and meeting you in person! And it suddenly dawns on me, I think those headrests (apart from the cloth) are identical to those in my mini! Classic British Leyland!

Same age as me.😭
The car only survived thanks to that rust protection sticker ! As for the red childhood Princess the plate "JD" suggests that it was reg in the summer of 1980 !
Väldigt intressant balanserings maskin, aldrig sett förr.
My dad had 6 cylinder too when I was a kid, solid car. I remember reading the manual it said something about a PlusPac addition to improve performance. Don't know what that was. I feel I was being teased continually with Porsche, can't wait.

haha! My tools, my regime! :P
did you know- for the ultra purist repairing paint, paint can be removed from unseen parts of the car (in the boot etc) and mixed with thinners.
Den er rigtig fin… Jeg har en som står som tæt på ny ude i værkstedet 😅
Loving your videos man, but can you please lock in the white balance on your go pro? It's so cool to see cars we've never had in the states!

Where in the video is the problem? this video is compiled by lots of old videos with older gear... could be the reason. :)

@@SeasideGarage probably. I think it's the OLED screen on my phone. I have issues with darker videos and I normally watch one of yours before bedtime. Your newer videos look better and I think you're great at explaining things! Don't be afraid to let some of us in on what you're thinking. Stuff like the hydraulic suspension on the Austin Princess is almost alien to Americans haha
Fantastisk bil. For 15 år siden kørte jeg allegro som daily driver, selv dengang var de pist væk, men det var faktisk en fantastisk bil med dens hydrolastik affjedring og 1275cc motor,

@@SeasideGarage ja det er kanon. Så længe det virker 😆
Must have been comprehensively maintained ans cherished. It has definitely been in for dealer rust treatment every year while in service. Excepting haunting, someone's adored that car in the past for such near perfect running. or it is haunted. Points need a non abrasive clean. run a wd40 cloth between the points for half a minute, then buff dry with an antiseptically clean and new lint and oil free cloth, which has been blessed by the religious authority of your liking; that includes shamen, FSM, jedi, bishop, anyone you hallucinated or the ether itself.

dunno why it's called a princess. I always hated them especially the rear, really out dated by the time they came on UK roads. no fifth gear either. It's a shame BL kept it for so long, and the ambassador was just ridiculous. luckily the rust bucket maestros and montegos came in 1985 and looked slightly more up to date, although using the 1.3 a series engine was a daft idea as it didn't have the power and again no fifth gear. the 2.0 turbo and injection cars were a bit better. Austin rover always seemed late in releasing their cars and usually the market had moved on by the time they did sadly.

Yea the rear is not the best... the rest I really like... Could have been great with the v8!
