Aurora Borealis, Tromso Norway September 2015
I was privileged to witness the Aurora Borealis, The Northern Lights several times during my stay in Tromso, Norway. There were a few stand out nights above the rest, where the aurora danced across the sky in all it's formations and multitude of colours. This time-lapse is the culmination of those nights. My favourite quote to describe the aurora is by Austrian explorer Julius von Payer, who said "No pencil can draw it, no colors can paint it, and no words can describe it in all its magnificence". I'll add to this that no photograph, nor video can truly do justice to the awe and euphoric experience of witnessing the lights with the naked eye, it's something that must be seeing to be believed.
I'd like to give a big thank you to both Gunnar (www.guide-gunnar.no/) and Kjetil (www.kjetilskogli.no/) who were fantastic tour guides and helped make this happen for me... and for introducing me to Norwegian sweets :) .
Music by Enya, track "China Roses". Thanks for watching.

Thanks Tony :) I was fortunate on this trip to have multiple nights of great aurora.
Brilliant time lapse Mohammed and nicely rounded off with Enya too. Arrived in Tromso today with the hope of seeing the lights tomorrow night. Skies are currently cloudy, really do hope they clear up...

+The Dolmen All the best! There's some nice solar activity going on at the moment so if the skies clear you'll be in luck :)
A privilege indeed, Moh. The spectacle is so awesome that no words can describe it. What an astonishing video!

Cheers thanks Roger. It really must be seen to be believed.
Nydelig. Sunning, beautiful. Aurora and Tromso two of the best things to see. Excellent choice in music. I hope you get the chance to see the lights again and make another video. \o/ x

+Joan C Thank you for your kind words. I agree Tromso is so beautiful, as much as the aurora :)
Thanks for the wonderful emotions in this video! I have two questions... I'm from Italy and I plan going to Tromso this summer, we are probably going thhe first week of September... I heard some people say he Northern Lights only form in mid-winter? Is it rare to have them in September? The second thing is ,can any camera record the Aurora Borealis?

Hi Eleonora apologise for such a delayed response. Yes absolutely you can see them in first week in September. It's a fantastic time to go then as you have a both day time to explore the beautiful scenery and night time to see the lights. You can record a video of the aurora with modern full frame cameras (e.g. Sony a7s/a7riii) and a lens with bright aperture (f1.4). Hope that helps and best of luck :)
Beautiful. When did you go in September?

Thanks :). Really hard to say... but the good thing about Tromso is that it requires very little activity from the sun to trigger off big auroras! My advice is get out there each night and chase. One moment you can think nothing is going to happen and then before you know it... ;)
hi fantastic footage, what camera did you use for this time lapse.

Hi Richa apologise for the late reply. Firstly lucky you :D Your best bet is anywhere away from city lights and clear skies. We drove for hours sometimes (often near Finland) to escape the clouds. See if can speak with the locals to get recommended weather forecast (I used yr.no before). Best of luck!

Will totally depend on solar activity but there's definitely enough darkness to see it should things spark up :)
