Aunt Jemima's New Brand Name Revealed?
The Quaker Oats Company has filed two new trademark applications for a brand that we believe will be the replacement for Aunt Jemima.
The filings were made on February 1 for “PEARL MILLING COMPANY” and a logo. These applications were filed on a 1(b) basis, meaning that The Quaker Oats Company has an intent to use the marks in association with “pancake mix, pancakes, pancake syrup, grits, cornmeal mix, and cornmeal.”
Back in 2020, The Quaker Oats Company announced that the Aunt Jemima brand would be changing its name and removing the Aunt Jemima image that was based on “a racial stereotype.”
We believe these new trademarks will be the replacement for the brand because Pearl Milling Company created the first ready-made pancake mix, which eventually became Aunt Jemima. Additionally, the Pearl Milling Company logo has the same colors and font as the Aunt Jemima logo.
