'Aung San Suu Kyi" should be made a synonym for 'hypocrite' in the English language. This woman is a serious embarrassment, and will go down in history as a shameful character who had the chance to do something good, but instead choose to pursue her own selfish political goals.

And when they came for me there was no one left to speak. Su chi denying genocide and the people of Myanmar who cheered the Army are now tasting there own medicine. Regardless of colour faith when fascism or ethnic cleansing start to show their ugliness and no one speaks up , soon these tyrants will find faults in the very people that support them and turn on them.

+Waseem Akhtar Get your facts right before you make accusations. Do you even know that Muslims are a majority in the areas where the violence started (Butheedaung, Maung daw, Rathedaung)? Also, see how the violence occurred in my comment above. The oppressor is the military government. It has oppressed the whole of Myanmar (except for a handful connected to it) whether they are Buddhists, Christians, Muslims or animists. Do you even know that it also killed Buddhist monks with guns and fire bombs? Do you know that it drove Karen ethnic groups (Christians and Buddhists) into Thailand? OR do you just want to selectively lobby for the rights of the Muslims only, blindly thinking that they are the only ones oppressed in Myanmar? See a broader picture view. Don’t just blindly listen to the story your Muslim brothers want you to hear.

Myanmar and Suu Kyi's situation atm goes to show that trying to placate rightwing populists by giving in to some of their perceived "acceptable demands" with supposed minimum repercussions, (i.e.violence and hatred on minorities) because it'll lead to an "ultimate victory of democracy & greater societal good" and because "minority lives are a small price to pay in the bigger scheme of things"...spectacularly fails to work out for the better and forward progression, in ANY sort of way. It not only leads to the minority lives lost but also works to strip any false sense of democracy soon within a couple of years. To beat authoritarianism, you also need to quelch out and challenge fascism and nationalist ideologies every chance you get.

This is genuine proof that what you think is a "great" and "good" leader cannot be universal. All is always based on context. ASSK here is facing a dilemma, either giving way to what the West wants to perceive of her as a symbol of a "universal good leader" or fixing her nation's problems through contextual means. Evidently, she chose the latter, hoping it would be for the good of Myanmar.

+Waseem Akhtar Did Gandhi condemn ONLY one side of the Calcutta riots??? Were he repeatedly asked to do so? And oh, the Calcutta riots were followed by the Noakhali riots, also known as the Noakhali genocide or the Noakhali Carnage: a series of massacres, rapes, abductions and forced conversions of Hindus and looting and arson of Hindu properties, perpetrated by the Muslim community in the districts of Noakhali in the Chittagong Division of Bengal in October-November 1946. What did Gandhi do there? See a particular group’s attitude towards him: “Gandhi's stay in Noakhali was resented by the Muslim leadership. On 12 February 1947, while addressing a rally at Comilla, A. K. Fazlul Huq said that Gandhi's presence in Noakhali had harmed Islam enormously.[54] His presence had created a bitterness between the Hindus and the Muslims.[54] The resentment against Gandhi's stay in Noakhali grew day by day. Towards the end of February 1947 it became vulgar. Gandhi's route was deliberately dirtied everyday and Muslims began to boycott his meetings.[54] Gandhi had brought a goat from India, which he kept with him in Noakhali; local Muslims stole the goat and ate it.”

OR has it just been self-contradictory from the beginning? If you think Suu Kyi has done nothing, just google how she has brought a change from dictatorship to democracy for her WHOLE country (I’m sorry it’s not selectively for Muslims). It’s just that it took her nearly 30 years to do so. I’m not surprised Muslims are calling Suu Kyi names as a Calcutta Muslim leader called even Gandhi “that old fraud” :)

According to what Buddha Gautama taught his followers years ago, we are living in the third era also known as "Age of Dharma Decline". It means Buddhist followers and Buddhist monks forget or ignore a lot of Buddha's preaching, and they commit what their master told them to avoid. The Rohingya's incident is a good example for this period. Real Buddhist cannot even kill a tiny ant, but what these monks doing is against their belief. I think this incident is more political than religious because Rohingya people are miserable rather than dangerous to Myanmar. These monks may want to revenge to what Timur and Tamerlane did with Buddhists in north India in 1300s.

You have to know that there are 135 ethnic groups in Myanmar. Killing is never new in Myanmar but to the world, only when Rohingyas are attacked people raise their voice, as if the rest of ethnicity dont exist. We exist too... 😪 Every ethnic suffers under military dictatorship, not just Rohingya people. I am a Christian in Chin State, Myanmar. Every religions, including budhists and monks suffer under military dictatorship. Nothing is new. That’s why I know Aung San Sukyi has nothing to do with the killing, she is just powerless to defend anyone, even she has been jailed for over a decade. She always tell her supporters to not fight back with violence. She doesnt believe in violence. Her father was assassinated by the military officials😪 yes, it’s not “ethnic cleansing”. It’s terrorism. Not just one ethic is being killed, EVERY ETHNICS in the country suffer. We only have hope in her. She is still alive today because all people are standing beside her and the military leaders are scared that if they kill her the people will fight back. Now we are only doing peaceful protest. If she dies, ever civilians, every ethnic armies will attack the military and that’s why they still keep her alive. We don’t want to fight back with violence, because the rest of the world will say its civil war. We want the world to stand with us to fight these military dictatorship so that no more innocent lives are lost.

Like I read it somewhere, tragic ridden Myanmar has been suffering for centuries; first under British Colonialism, when the nation was placed inside Greater India, thus around 8 millions immigrants moved into small homogeneous country in long Colonial era; secondly through boycotted by the West, as impoverished Myanmar turned to Socialism for a relief. In fact, Myanmar has a sad saying that goes 'A poor young girl got raped and got hurt twice', referring to their nation's double tragedies. Present ongoing ethnic crisis in Myanmar is a product of British Colonialism, when the nation was placed inside Greater India, thus several millions immigrants poured into small homogeneous country in long Colonial era, including those from populous but tiny Bangladesh which has a population of 180 million, that had been sending millions of illegal immigrants into Myanmar for ages that Myanmar has declared national emergency in Rakhine State ever since early 1980s, but the West & their Western news medias ignored it all, eversince Myanmar had been boycotted by the Capitalist West, when impoverished country turned to Socialism after long painful Colonial era; and as a result, hardly any one out of Myanmar knew truths. Moreover, Myanmar endured the worst immigration onslaught under long & painful Colonialism, when several million immigrants poured in, as a small homogeneous country was put inside Greater India; while neighbors such as Laos, Cambodia & Vietnam under French Colonialism had no immigration issue at all. Like I said, there's hardly any Muslim, Hindu or Christian in Myanmar up until Colonialism. More at, blog.chinadaily.com.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=742201

It clearly states that one in three souls in that region are “Musulmans” of Rohingya origin. The term existed back in 1799. So this idea that it’s a manufactured term, and these people are illegal, is false. The historical record shows they’ve been there for centuries." (Taken from Jen Kirby; nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/09/what-the-hell-is-happening-in-myanmar.html) The Rohingya people including both Muslims and Hindus have their history more than one thousand years back and were free people until Burma occupied them. The Rohingya are ethnically related to the Bengalese, Pakistani and Indian Muslims. They are part of the regionally dominant force ethnically. The Burmese recognize 198 official ethnicities but fear opening the door to potentially tens of millions of Muslims. Weird isn't it? How people who recognize 198 different ethnicities are "racist"? And how the 500 million Muslims in the area are the helpless minority? No one like you ever wants to talk about 20 police stations being attacked on the same day by the Rohingya. You support terrorism. Say... what did the "Rohingya" do with the weapons the British gave them in WWII? Oh that's right- mass killings of non-Muslim ethnicities. You support that. Own it. You support mass murderers who treat their women like fuck toy slaves. Those are you values.

Looking back at this interview, you can tell the interviewer was trying to answer for Aung San Sui Kyi instead and won't even let her finish. They stated "Aung San Suu Kyi has denied that attacks on Muslims in Myanmar amount to ethnic cleansing", but truthfully the real perpetrator of this issue is the military itself. Has the military declared it as "ethnic cleanings" or kicking the Rohingya families out of Myanmar boarder because they are stateless & have no citizenship? Its all in the eyes of tragedy if the military does not even care about their own people, they will attack & kill any outsiders. What makes this matter even worse is these news channels who have supported Aung San Sui Kyi in the past & knows what she has done to come this far, and now suddenly they stopped doing their own research and rely on media & the press? Imagine the outcome if only the reporters changed their motives on Min Aung Hlaing (Military leader), the public eye would've done way more for the Rohingya people & the people of Myanmar justice.

Anyone know ? Anyone has the guts to discuss this issue rationally without resorting to name calling ??? Just wondering

Jacoby Shaddex they are not even welcome in their own country because people have become aware of the murderous #HateIdeology that they follow. Its a world wide phenomenon. The internet has helped to spread the truth about their venomous #islamic way of life , which if not kept in check, will destroy every other culture and eventually destroy themselves... So the Burmese are actually doing the #Muslims a favor.

Rude interviewer. Would be a more productive interview if she stops interrupting and cornering Aung San Suu Kyi to say what she wants her to say. 3 years has passed, so let's just put our assumptions on hold for a sec and wait what she does, now that she's elected and all.

I am a Burmese citizen and I know wat’s inside my country. That’s why I know Aung San Sukyi has nothing to do with the killing, she is just powerless to defend anyone, even she has been jailed for over a decade. She always tell her supporters to not fight back with violence. She doesnt believe in violence. Her father was assassinated by the military officials😪 and yes, it’s not “ethnic cleansing”.

@Ali Chaudhry that could be one of the many reasons. Im glad to hear your side of opinion 🙂 Im just sad why people point finger at other ethnic groups for “not standing up”, when we can’t even stand up for ourselves and we also have been suffering since decades before Rohingyas came to Burma. Rohingyas came to seek refuge in Burma while many of ethnic minorities seek refuge in other countries like India and Malaysia is very daunting. They should know it’s not a good place to seek refuge from first place when Burma’s own citizens are not safe from the military itself you know. Many Burma citizens are also living in Malaysia illegally because Malaysia dont want refugees in their country. Everyday, Myanmar refugees run away from Malaysia police because they know it’s illegal, yet they can’t return to Burma because it’s worse in there😢 There are many Chin refugees in Malaysia and I know with experience. My husband himself was jailed in Malaysia for over 2yrs for being illegal refugee 😢

@@hniang2 Granted she may possibly have had her hands tied but she personally refused to condemn or acknowledge the atrocious actions of the military in their rape, murder and possible genocide of the Rohingyas. There maybe other ethnic groups that are mistreated but none in the massive scale as the Rohingyas. The Buddhist are the majority there and most of them have little sympathy for the Rohingyas. She even personally defended the army's actions in the ICJ hearings at the Hague. She and ger government prosecuted many journalists and activists using colonial era laws. She should've resigned instead of supporting the actions of the generals in her Cabinet calling them "sweet." You try to paint her as angel but she is not. The world was fooled into thinking that at one point. She is far more complex than that.

@@totalbliss1 im not saying she is an angel but I know she is always powerless. She was in and out for over 2 decades from house arrest, her father was assassinate. I dont think after going through all these hardship she will willingly go along with these killers and kill when she herself always speak out for peace and non violent protest. Im sure there is more than we know. Military officials hire journalists and spread fake news in Myanmar and for other nations. “None as massive scale as Rohingyas”? You only know about Rohingyas and you compare that to other ethnic groups already. Please do more research on how Karen, Kayin, Chin, Myuan have suffered, been killed and have been fleeing, and for how many years. You’ll be speechless. That’s the main reason most enthnic minorities have their own armies to protect their own people. You dont know much about our country dear. My point is, why dont people point fingers at real culprits instead of accusing at someone who is powerless. I also think that she should have never sign an agreement with them from first place and she should have never let them tricked her but it happened. But why people don’t blame the real culprit instead? People also say “all Burmese supported Rohingyas crisis”, but I know that’s faaaar from true. Like I said, there are 135 ethnics in Myanmar and many minorities go through same as wat Rohingyas did way before Rohingyas even came to Burma. Pointing fingers at all Burmese for military coup d’état is very wrong. Do you think all muslims should be blamed for 911 attack? I already know your answer and that is exactly my point.
