The Augmented Reality Flashlight reimagines AR, bringing the additional content into the space to be experienced by everyone, not just the person using the device. By pointing the flashlight around, the user can discover a parallel, hidden world.
Combining projection mapping techniques and accurate physical tracking offered by modern VR systems, the portable always-in-focus laser projector renders an additional layer on the physical space. Currently the physical space needs to be equipped with tracking beacons and the parallel, virtual space needs to be manually mapped in 3D. In the future, the flashlight could work with less setup, by utilizing generative content and advancements in camera/LiDAR based tracking solutions, as seen for example in the Microsoft Hololens.
