Hey, Kirby! Great to see you go from being overwhelmed by 1400 subs to nearly 10,000 in a matter of weeks:) I realized a couple years ago I was about to turn 40 and had always wanted to build stuff like this so I started researching like mad. You're inspiring me to try more. Thanks and keep up the great work!

excellent list of info and links in the video description thank you.
I've really fell in love with your videos Kirby. Really brings back my interests from when I took an electronics class in school. And combines it with my love for carpentry. I was wondering if you could possibly make a video on the components and what not of a speaker?
Really awesome video! Do you have a video of the speakers playing?
great work man this shows ur passion and the speakers are amazing result of your passion most satisfying work and video😃😃

Still amazed by how great your videos are! How do you normally choose between recessing the units or not
Bravo! What a fantastic video. Catching the late sun to show off the shine and workmanship was wonderful. Music was the perfect match. An artist on all fronts. Just out of interest what grit do you go up to? Top work fella.

this is just beautiful please tell me how many grits of paper you used for making that glossy finish and can I get it on the plain wood also ? plz reply
Love your work and love the way you work. Very stunning video. Just a little question, what's the liquid you applied before sanding? First time I've seen wet sanding. Cheers.
Thank you for the videos. One quick question. What do you do with all this stuff when you are done building it?
Beautiful

Kirby this an incredibly nice work and amazing finish. I guess the last step is some kind of wet sanding ?
Hey thanks for uploading this. If you listen through a PC you can use equalizer APO (google it) to flatten the frequency response of these drivers. They tend to have a peaky response and no baffle step but that can be easily adjusted (much better than using a circuit).
The effort put in to all these videos! but only 10000 HOW!!
Hi Kirby, Very nice looking speaker cabinets. I read a few comments about the plys in the wood, I like it. I understand Marine plywood is void less and has a nice veneer which could serve as a material to make speaker cabs. I joined Slack on August 23rd. Looking forward to participating in the community, get involved. Take care, C.

Thats right! Here I'm using baltic birch ply which is marine grade. It's super rigid and a great material to build with. Thanks for watching, Cass!
...and....sub'd! After that there is no way I couldn't sub. Holy cow those look amazing!.
Hi Just joined the channel.... I did not catch what finish was used on the cabinet portion? Nice build.... A little "audio" from Kirby would be nice to help decipher the process a little better... thanks!!
hi kirb. I have a DIY speaker with birch plywood. i would want to finish the cabinet this way. you didnt place any stain or oil on this right? the gloss finish is just on buffing? thanks. good job.
Perfekt 👍🏻 what is this Beat ?
Amazing enclosures! I kinda hoped I would see them with speakers and all.... hey, that finish tho!!!

any brand of speakers that u recommend? I'm seeing ds18 pro but i didn't know if these speakers are functional on home audio
Look good so far but do you put drivers in it? I cant find the video
DO you have sound test videos?? These look epic but I want to hear them too!
beautiful👌👍
nice... very nice!!
awesome job, i agree, i dont buy, i just make the same, and, i hope, i make the same, like, i like and love. Really good job, and a big inspiration...
How did you get that shiny finish on your speaker what grit sandpaper?
beautiful.......
which fabric did you used for the mesh grills?
How can I order these from you!?!?!?! Haha, I love the design, fantastic job. I am a fellow speaker builder, I'd love to talk with you some time!
What were you spraying and wetting the sand paper with? Nice job

How did you apply the varnish? did you use a spray gun or just a brush ?
Great video. That enclosure looks amazing! I'm really jealous of whoever is getting that, it's a piece of art for sure. I was really hoping to see it with the speakers in it but I suppose maybe you weren't going to be the person installing them. Take it easy and I look forward to the next one!

Kirby Meets Audio great video, great product. I'm just embarking on my first speaker build with my own Audio Nirvana drivers. I'd like to ask what kind of polish/finish did you use with the buffer on the face?
Good interesting video! Thank you:) And you can find out how and why you sprinkle? 4:30 I understand it is diluted with water polishing paste rubbed into plywood and then polishing?
@mathewmillard6408
7 жыл бұрын
Максим Калита it might just be water for the fine grit sand paper he's using
@MaksimKalita
7 жыл бұрын
I think it is still polishing paste it as a cream composition, simply rubbed into the wood, and then when everything dries up, polished already) I'll try to do something like that the other day)

As always, an amazing video! what did you use to get that finish?
@KirbyMeetsAudio

Thank you! It's a spray on gloss acrylic clear finish with DAYS of work to bring out the high gloss. This is the first time I've tried a buffed out high gloss and it is rough! I've never sanded so much in my life. Thanks for watching!
Can someone tell me what measures the cabinet has? I can't find the measures of the build
Hmm maybe i should try and build my own speakers one day. looks like a lot of fun! great video also! only thing i would say is that the image is a bit "noise" in the darker area, maybe get some more light going? :)

how many grits of sand paper did you used ?
You're a much more experienced wood worker than myself for sure... But it was nice to the same materials, tools and practices being used. Could you tell me what product you used with the buffer please?

You can find a list of what I used in the description, but here is a link to the polishing compound I used: amzn.to/2bkpnJF Thanks for watching!
Amazing work but I'm slightly confused. Did you apply a varnish or dealer onto the wood prior to polishing or (this may sound stupid) did you polish the wood without anything?
@mathewmillard6408

John Cary I had the same question but found this further down the comments www.amazon.com/3M-Compound-Finishing-Material-06044/dp/B0000AZ9J0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ER7SGHA5YB8TEWPDSF4E&linkCode=sl1&tag=audiokirby-20&linkId=ed94da082671eb88c42fef8900683a30 it's a polish and sealant.

Nice. Is there any chance i can listen it on soundcloud etc.?
Hi, Kirby. I’ve watched a couple of your speaker build videos. Nicely done! But, I’m a virtual newb when it comes to electronics. Here’s my first question. I have an unrepairable Sony sound bar and BT subwoofer - faulty power board. The speakers in both units are good. I hate the idea of trashing perfectly good speaks when they might make a nice Bluetooth speaker. What are your thoughts/suggestions about this project?
what is the wood for the cabinets...just made a 2x3 cnc . you got me thinking. :P
@mathewmillard6408
7 жыл бұрын
daniel minskey I think it's bBeech or Birch plywood. Probably 18mm
I think speaker placement is a bad idea, considering a 12" sub would make these top heavy if they are designed to stand as shown in the final
man u super good how can i order your soundbar and sub wanting one bad

dont ever use fiberglass house batting for the baffling because when you do the fiberglass particils will get into the voice coils and tear up the coils
@Cabeza492
6 жыл бұрын
So, you say that based on your vast experience building speaker cases?
@Hellsong89
5 жыл бұрын
Ffs you dont need to be expert on audio to know that 10 inc sub will move hellawa lot of air and create vibrations. Add there teared construction of insulation that is built from small fibers and that WILL get those moving inside the box, ending up into voice coils. Even amateur can tell you that crap on voice coils is not good thing. If box is breathing model, you are just pumping those fibers into room air. Only requirement to know all this is to been contact with fiber insulation materials. In house building trade insulation is the most hated job of them all, specially when it comes to fiber glass insulation. cause all those tiny fibers will end up inching for weeks and stay in your work wear until you replace them.
@justins.1283
5 жыл бұрын
I used fiberglass insulation for years with no driver failure issues.
Great job. Are you still doing this? If you are can I pay you to build a box for me?
hey Kirby :) I can't believe I hadn't found your channel before, I've been trying to learn how to make speakers and your videos are as gorgeous as the speakers themselves :P quick question- what kind of fabric is that?? I've been making acoustic panels and much to everyone's surprise the Guilford of Maine fabric is always the most expensive part of the build ^_^''
@KirbyMeetsAudio

Thanks! I got it on eBay actually. The client wanted that specific color. I don't specifically remember, but I don't believe it was too expensive.
@DuncanEscNJ

is it just speaker grill cloth? I want to find acoustically transparent fabric that is flame retardant but doesn't break the bank :/
Nice speakers! I see you used gloves for the pink stuff. I hope its not fiberglass. Im assuming your using a full range Super 12, with a ported enclosure, If so, you wouldnt want to touch fiberglass, so you definitely wouldn't want the particles going into your lungs every time the speakers play. Perhaps acousta stuff, or egg crate foam would be an alternative. love the finish Btw

Fiberglass is common in loudspeakers. I bought a pair of ported Energy speakers about 8 years ago that had the pink stuff in them. Still I dont like it. I always use recycled denim in my speakers now. Here is the denim www.homedepot.com/p/UltraTouch-16-in-x-48-in-Denim-Insulation-Multi-Purpose-Roll-6-Pack-60306-16482/202710055

whats the benefit of wet sanding?
@KirbyMeetsAudio
8 жыл бұрын
Here, i'm wet sanding the clear coat finish to prepare it for polishing. Wet sanding acts as a lubricant and reduces clogging on the sand paper for a more even finished surface. The sand paper is super fine, so it clogs pretty easily. Thanks for watching!
A suggestion - Please do state somewhere in the video the tool being used at that instance.
@KirbyMeetsAudio

Full list of tool and components in the description!
@arjunmenon9830
8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I saw the description. What I am referring to is a simple label in the video the name of the tool which you are using at that time, on the speaker. Like I dont know which circular tool had that cloth like material attached, you used to polish off. Sometimes the size, make is not readily apparent.
You got something good going here Kirby. I really like people, but many times hearing them babble throughout vids can be tiresome. It's a price you need to pay to get to that nugget of new info. Your vids are truly a pleasure to watch. Enjoying your channel.
Wet sanding on plyboard? I guess you applied something before that. Nive build and what an envy. Wish There's a finish product?
@mathewmillard6408

Jingo Lopez would there be an issue with wet sanding plywood? I'm waiting to start my first build and hadn't considered this. any help would be appreciated
@go2mac
7 жыл бұрын
I would like to guess a non-water based primer. Initially a damped cloth is good to raise the grain of the wood and sand again. But a primer has to be there before you wet sand just to get a good finish before the paint itself.
Hey kerby, always show the finished product at the end of the video atleast for 30 sec bro !!!
Send me one on the house to test..lol!

I always use the recycled denim stuff now with my speakers. You can even get pressed sound absorption hard panels that are made of the same recycled denim. I can't stand getting the fiberglass on me. I itch right away. I know that fiberglass is common in loudspeakers. I bought a pair of ported Energy speakers about 8 years ago that had the pink stuff in them. Still I dont like it either.
