If your a rally fan. The story of Audi and Lancia battling for the 1983 will be familiar I'm sure.
1983 was the first year of Group B rallying and Lancia at the top of its game were the first team with a true Group B car its 037 light and agile but only two wheel drive pitting its car against Audi's four-wheel drive quattro for a battle royal.

The video was just watchable Wasn't as good as other rallying videos on KZread so won't be watching it again It was too bitty and music was absolutely terrible 2 out of 10

@@LED605 Times were changing, for the safety of everyone, drivers and spectators. Group B was the most beautiful time of the rally.

In 1983 I was a spectator on the Turini special stage in Monte Carlo. Unforgettable memories. Many many thanks for this great video.

1983. The best WRC season ever apart from 1998 and 1995.
Great video, it’s nice to see some of the old footage, I remember this year very well, to a 15 year old, WRC was more exciting than F1 and felt so much more down to earth.

I remember this season as I was on the Audi side - Hannu on the 1000 lakes - he was sensational - Nobody was going to stop him, The like of which we will never see again ! All them drivers then were heros - no driver aids - The Audi a heavy ungainly beast - Lancia were light and nimble but an asolute death trap Great footage stitched beautifully together - Some scenes are new to me ! Lots of work went into this Marv - You should be very proud of yourself !!

I hope you liked it and think it worked. Its difficult to condense a whole season into a video that's not too long and flows. There are details I had to leave as not to get side tracked from the main story.

Portugal was one of the rally’s that became legendary during Group B.
What a amazing film/ video you have created 🎉 well done I absolutely love this. You must of put in so much work to make this. Also what a amazing year for rally. Not going to lie I’m TEAM LANCIA ALWAYS WILL BE If anyone has watched this carefully the way the LANCIA takes corners is amazing what a car the AUDI just cant do it due to 4wd and a big 5pot over the front axel LANCIA was the last car to beat the new 4WD cars coming into the Group B season And on the cards was the Delta S4 IM old enough to Remember watching all this unfold. A TOP video and big Respect

Thanks so much Luke. I started making it around Christmas and it was alot of work any video thats quite long is time consuming with all the little edits. Your right you can see that the 037 is so much lighter and quicker in the corners whereas the Audi bounces and understeers through them on asphalt.

Lancia contre Audi , la 037 contre la Quattro , Cesare Fiorio contre Roland Gumpert , Walter Röhrl contre Hannu Mikkola disparu en 2021 le Groupe B démarre en 1983 avec ce duel entre les Turinois et les Teutons pour les titres pilotes et constructeurs où Lancia commence la saison avec une victoire au Monte Carlo avec Walter Röhrl devant son coéquipier Markku Alèn suivi d'une série de victoires pour Lancia tandis que chez les Teutons d'Audi Hannu Mikkola et Sitg Blomqvist offrent des victoires à la firme d'Ingolstadt dans un contexte où l'incroyable surprise vient de la 037 qui a battue une quatre roue motrice offrant du même coup à Lancia le titre de champion du monde des constructeurs devant les types d'Ingolstadt en cette saison 83 avec la victoire de Markku Alèn au San Remo , Lancia n'avait pas participer au rallye de Suède avec la 037 qui n'est pas du tout à l'aise sur la neige ni au Safari Rallye . Walter Röhrl , Markku Alèn , Attilio Bettega disparu en 1985 en Corse , Massimo Biasion qui se révèlera au sein du Jolly club , Jean Claude Andruet ont largement contribuer au succès de la 037 qui va se faire matraquer par Audi en 1984 avec le titre de Sitg Blomqvist après celui de Mikkola et le titre constructeur revient à Audi jusqu'à ce que Peugeot et sa 205 Turbo 16 va matraquer les protagonistes de 1983 Lancia et Audi avec les victoires de Vatanen et en 1985 Peugeot va humilier Audi et Lancia avec sa 037 en fin de carrière poussant les Turinois à utiliser la Delta S4 une quatre roue motrice pour rivaliser avec les Sochaliens en 1986 . Une mention spéciale pour Me Michèle Mouton qui a participé à la saison de 1983 qui a été une saison folle digne du Groupe B !

WRC 83rd season should have been won by Audi with ease, since of the 12 races only 2 were on asphalt, the rest on slippery surfaces, and we could also discard the 2 African races that were more like car-breaking rallies or mini-raids that they always won the robusts Toyotas Celica Twin-cam 2WD. However, Audi had many mechanical problems in rallies such as Acropolis, Sanremo and especially New Zealand, rallies that it should have won with some comfort. Too many withdrawals. Then there was the Lancia team that it had a "real Group B" mid-engine car, but 2WD, however it was very well suited to dirt and was clearly the best on asphalt, it was also very reliable, and its drivers had were very fast and consistent, when one didn't win the other won (Röhrl and Alén), in addition to scoring points in some rallies that weren't very favorable to them such as Portugal or 1000 Lakes. In Sanremo there were also not very clean team tactics on Fiorio's part, putting his slower cars ahead of the Audis on the (super dusty) dirt stages, taking advantage of the superiority of the 037 on the asphalt of the 1st leg (until then everything is legal), however the rally organization allowed them to literally "sweep" the dirt sections with brooms mounted on their assistance vans, something that shouldn't have been allowed. Three years later Fiorio would return to his tricks when the organization disqualified Peugeot team in the middle of the rally in a rather suspicious manner ("fear of losing at home" I called it), which cost them the cancellation of the rally and Markku lost the championship.

Much better than this crap movie Audi vs Lancia Race for Glory. Anyone who is interested in this fascinating story should watch Jeremy Clarkson documentary form The Grand Tour and your video, Marvdogger. Excellent piece of work, chapeau bas. You single handedly did a better job than this clown filmakers who butcherded the story with fakery. Best regards.

I’ve only seen bits of the new movie. But it’s as bad as I was expecting unfortunately and even the driving scenes can’t save it.

@@Marvdogger2 I've saw the full movie. The only good things are cars, sound of cars, music and archive footage. Also quite good recreation of driver overralls, helmets etc. The rest, especially acting and driving scenes, are bad. Even for the normal cinema enthusiasts the movie has nothing to offer.

I just watched it and well, its a huge dissapointment to me. It didn't really capture at all what group B was. People saying there wasnt much character development were right, especially the main character, (in charge of events for lancia) i even forgot his name. He kinda just is meh, and gets mad sometimes. And the driving scenes didnt capture what group B was quite as well, also the drivers languages were all translated to english which is innacurate, and instead of using custom pacenotes they used a handbook? (i could be wrong but im pretty sure they never did that) In general the movie was lacking, and we only see Michele Mouton around 3 times which is a huge dissapointment for me. There was also a scene where a driver was talking to the lancia leader, during a rally?? How are you supposed to listen to the codriver pacenotes?? And also in a lot of scenes there is no pacenotes being said which is comepletely innacurate. I understand the movies about the battle between audi and lancia but they dont highlight enough the advances besides 4WD.

And like I said I dont feel the driving scenes captured what Group B was, not like some video youd see on youtube which is unfourtunate, and also I personally find it dumb they added music over the onboard racing scenes and racing scenes in general in certain moments. When your watching videos on youtube about group B they want pure sound, and what do you get when you spectate group B? Pure sound. I just feel this movie could have done so much more and it was way too short.

Today we know that Lancia cheated all the way, and was never able to confirm it's supremacy, with the same car. Also Walter was inspired and fearless! He was also the one who taught Michèle how to handle the Quattro!

Lancia did what everyone in motorsport does - they stretched every advantage they could. They knew 4WD was the future and they only had one season to win the Manufacturer's title with the 037 Also wasn't Walter driving an Opel Ascona when Michele learned to drive the Quattro alongside Hannu? Michele nearly beat Walter to the Drivers title in '82.
Where are all the american and Japanese cars back in 1983 to be doing something remotely close to this? I know where american cars were in 1983!! Making same horsepower out of dinosaur pushrod engines that were three times bigger and making left turns only with their steering boxes drum brakes leaf springs and 3 speed manual transmission on a nascar back yard track Hahahahaha
