Owning an Audi TT Mk1 Roadster is great fun but I have learned lots of tips to help new Audi TT owners in that time.
These include quick fixes for the Audi TT and features of the car that you did not know where there.
So here are my top 10 tips for owning a roadster.
1) The First Aid compartment behind the passenger seat that houses the CD multichanger.
2) The lockable compartment for storing valuables behind the drivers seat.
3) The Audi TT emergency boot release lever on a roadster that resides in this compartment.
4) The centre compartment that is accessible by the driver.
5) Tonneau cover recess in the trunk/boot
6) Tonneau cover release button in the door shuts.
7) Roof close sensor fix
8) Roof strut fix that pops off the nipple
9) Engine on to lower and raise the hood to prevent a flat battery
10) Lower the wind deflector to prevent damage when closing the roof.
Plus Bonus Tip!
NEVER PLACE ITEMS IN THE ROOF VOID! Otherwise you can damage the hood glass and lead to a costly roof replacement when you close it with items in the void!
I am sure there are plenty of others so please leave your own suggestions in the comments!
Thanks for watching
Andy

Great information Andy! Im trying to troubleshoot my new-to-me 2001. Everything worked for a few weeks. But now.. Key fob not working. (already replaced batteries.) Roof does not retract or go up using switch Windows do not go up all the way. About a 5mm gap. The boot switch does not open boot. Doors do not lock or unlock from the inside. Do you think its the CCM? And how do I test for that?

Hi John. Welcome to the world of TT ownership! Thank you for your kind words! First off I would check all the fuses on the end panel of the dash. It just pops off and I have a video on it on the channel. If they are all intact, CCM is probably your next port of call. It’s accessible through a carpet hatch behind the drivers side of the roof recess. Testing it would need a 2nd working CCM. If it works the windows when you plug it in, chances are yours could be fried! They suffer from water damage due to blocked drain tubes. Where are you based? If local I am happy to give you a hand!

Good stuff, thanks! I have a couple different problems with my soft top (hood/roof) that I'm hoping you can help with; they may be related. 2001 Roadster. The hood/roof no longer retracts under power, I must manually force it down by hand. But it does close automatically under power, and the windows do automatically retract a bit, as they're supposed to. However, as the hood/roof approaches fully closing, the windows go back up prematurely, making closure of the hood/roof latch difficult. (I just take the additional step to lower the windows when putting up the top.) Please advise. Thanks PS. The rear windscreen quit working long ago. I just don't bother with it.

Hi and thanks for your comment and questions. I would take a look at the roof close sensor. It sounds like it is engaging before the hood is closed. Try and get the hood to almost 3/4 closed and then manually close the sensor and see if the windows go up when you do that. Powering up but not down could be one of the 2 struts I talk about has popped off the nipple. It does give odd behaviour like that. With the roo f up and closed, take a look and make sure you have one strut connected on both sides of the car. If one has popped off it might be why you get some power. I hope that helps. Please do come back with a reply and let me know.

@@andycharger Hi, and thanks for the quick response! I wish KZread supported pictures here... The two struts are attached to their nipples, and I noticed a microswitch in the roof mechanism on the left side only - all appears to be ok. I tried power-closing the roof 1/2 - 3/4, and noticed that when I stop pressing the roof switch on the center console the windows go up immediately. While in that position I also actuated the roof latch hook switch with my finger. This had the effect of partially lowering the windows when pressed leftward, and the windows close completely when released (the switch spring moves the paddle to the right). Again, if I power-close the roof the windows immediately lower a bit, but when the roof closes to within a couple inches before it can be latched, the windows close completely. Some other switch/sensor seems to be controlling the windows.

Im not sure Jeff. I saw a few roadsters last Friday and the majority had the black bodywork surround. So I presume most have been prepped for a hard top at some point. I an not sure what the mounts would look like on the B pillars but will take a look.

Bruh your spring clip on your plastic tie rod connector on the socket end was not in its proper place. That's why yours comes off. That metal clip needs to go into that slot in the plastic housing. 🤘🥸🤘
