Audi S8 v Porsche Panamera Turbo: DRAG RACE

It’s time for a luxurious Audi vs Porsche drag race!
We’ve got Mat lining up in his long-term Audi S8, and he’s facing off against Daniel (our carwow.de KZread presenter!) in a Porsche Panamera Turbo S.
So how do these two cars compare? Starting with the Audi, it’s packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that can deliver 571hp and 800Nm of torque. It’s pretty heavy, tipping the scales at 2,220kg, and a new one will set you back around £103,000.
As for the Porsche, it’s also powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, although its power output is up on the S8, delivering 630hp and 820Nm! What’s more, it’s also lighter, tipping the scales at 2,080kg.
So the Porsche has more hp, more torque, and it’s also lighter… Is the result a foregone conclusion? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Really? Seems inexperienced with cars to me.
You can put a table of the two cars with the engine power, torque and weight next to each other on the screen before the start of the race, as you do with a race of 3 or 4 cars

It’s impressive that despite being almost 50 horse powers down, and down on torque, AND weighing almost 200 kilos more the S8 can keep itself fairly close. I’d sooner have the S8 too and de-badge it. Stealth.

I think I agree, both great cars in their own way but not forgetting the at least £40k difference in price! Also, is the Panamera Turbo S a luxury saloon..not a fair comparison in my eyes!

The Audi S8 is objectively more insane and way better This turbo s costs TWICE as much(literally).. the panamera that's supposed to compete with this Audi S8 gets demolished. Notice how they didn't say price of the Porsche in the video, it's outrageous

After a bit of fun over the weekend may I suggest your rolling brake test starting speed add a couple rounds - 60mph, 120mph, and 150mph.

My 3D-modelled Audi RS8 Spyder might have stood a better chance at beating the Panamera.
Hey Matt , FYI you can bypass the soft limiter of anything made by the VOLKSWAGEN group by putting the gear lever in between Reverse and Drive

Audi needs to make a RS8 first.
2 top competitor's in my next car selection (in my dreams). The Audi S8 has power, interior/exterior looks that I like, and a lot of tech. Whereas the Panamara has even more power, better mechanics, and some of the looks and tech that I like. Very tough decision. Great race and great video.

do you feel the audi steering is too light? I have never owned an "s" Audi so I dont know if the steering is as light. The panamera feels heavier and more precise

I think u should try in sport mode but in auto to see how the kick down is in both cars in sport

Besides the engine these are completely different cars, I'd say they don't even share the window regulator motor (or whatever that thing is called in English)

@@improbro1124 well that may be true for some cars, especially the Cayenne which shares the platform with the Q7 and VW Touareg, but certainly not for the Panamera, which was developed as a Porsche platform (MSB) for use together with todays Bentleys and obviously also not true for the 911.

To be fair, the S8 held up incredibly well given that it is underpowered by 60hp and has the aero of a fridge compared to the P car. Plus it is more of a luxury limo than a sports saloon so good job S8

actually, the S8 has insanely good aero. The C/D of really good on it, I can't remember exactly but it is quite good. It was just underpowered and overweight here...lol

It really didn't, it got dropped about as hard as 10-15% less power and an extra 200kg would suggest. In the drag race. In the rolling race it got dropped way harder than it should've.

Hi, Matt .Great videos👍 For this both cars , i wash sold my panamera turbo 2017 1 year ago and just 1month ago buy the Audi s8 2021. For me the s8 its the ultimate car, if you compare the Panamera Turbo vs s8 , for sure the result will be different . Here we have 60hp more/torque and weight, just that. If you need a fear race vs the Turbo S , put chiptuning on the S8 and let's see the result ;)

My one complaint with car wow is what does any of this look like compared to the bog standard non 40k+ commute boxes we see all day

I think we all can agree with the following points. And they'd take these videos to the next level. We've all been wanting these things for years, but the only thing that's been really changing is even more and different Carwow plugs. 1. Please show the stats side by side on every video. 2. Please show the best ¼ mile times of all cars regardless of driver reactions. 3. Please brake from 110 instead of 100 to make sure you're not below 100 when braking. And then show the distance per car with the timing gear instead of being so reliant on human reactions. 4. Instruct drivers that they can go when the hands go down, not when hands are all the way down since that's how you do it. 5. The German accent is super cringe. 6. The amount of carwow plugs is getting ridiculous and basically everyone who watches has seen them 19383829 times. How about you lower it to once every video, or maybe twice (intro and outro) so new people will be able to see, but regular viewers (aka like 99%) won't have to be annoyed throughout the video all the time every video with all the tiny annoying plugs "pop out banner this" "click here" "go to carwow" "wanna sell your car?" Etc. Etc. It's getting so annoying and old. These things would enhance your videos and in turn bring in more viewers because the quality goes up. Which means you get more customers. We don't need 100 tiny Carlow references every video, it lowers the quality and in turn makes less people watch and use your services. The dragraces are still great, it's just that they can be improved so easily with some pretty minor adjustments that make huge changes. Cheers.
