    I used to have a yellow and white quattro as a toy car when I was a kid in the 80's. Fascinating to see the legendary Roland Gumpert with his team, covered in dirt, changing a gearbox in rural Ivory coast.

    This documentary tells the success of Audi in the 80s and 90s. Watch the newer documentaries "Truth in 24" and "Truth in 24 II". Audi's dominance in Motorsports continues. You can even search Le Mans 24 hour race wins and you'll find Audi have been dominating and are still winning.

    They won at Dakar as well and announced entering in F1 recently (both Audi & Porsche) because that is the only missing link in motorsport so yeah.. first year entering in F1 -Audi will supply engines + gearboxes and the Porsche partner-up with RedBull team.. so it will be interesting to see how good they will perform as a new entering in F1 as well..

    Truly nice and entertaining clip. Knew most of it anyway, but still epic to watch and good to know the background. Have b2 r5 coupe, c3 1st gen 200TQ and b4 Q myself and pure joy to drive, especially purebreed older models. Though now with lots of snow only b4 gets to be driven-easier and cheaper to find parts when something goes wrong. 200TQ is also up for sale locally and sadly for ridiculously cheap price.

    This is an original Audi video, called "Gute Zeiten" (Good Times). It is original, down to the 'shitty music' so do not knock it, It has not been edited in later! As a document, it tells a compelling chapter in the quattro (note there is NO capital q) history. I drive a 1984 Audi 90 quattro (USA: Audi 4000 quattro) and I have owned it since 1994. I also bought this original video at the Audi dealership I was working at the time. I have a full restauration and upgrade planned for 2018, until that time I use it sparsely, parts are getting a bit difficultto source, and Audi has really dropped the ball on the parts side. Unbelievable that not all parts for this iconic cars are available, not even through Audi Tradition, the official Audi classic parts supplier in Germany.

    Right guys, here’s an uodate: after saving for what seemed forever to get the funds to start the rebuild, I was all set to go in January. The car was driven to the garage to keep it road legal, but while they were working on her, I suffered a massive stroke, followed by COVID-19. I was left paralyzed on the left hand side and Corona nearly killed me. All in all, nothing has been done to her in the last six months, and as soon as I am fully mobile again, I’ll get back on track with the car. I acquired a Mercedes-Benz B250 as a daily driver, and a mint VW Golf Mk2 GTI G60 to keep me occupied while the guys will start on the quattro.

    Somewhere around 1:02 they talk about, and have a montage of, the Nurburgring. I know they changed the layout of the track between now and then but, alas, I am old enough to recall the prior layout. Unless I am missing something, a goodly amount of that video is not from Nurburg at all. Specifically, they show a series of shots from a chicane where the vehicles go up on two wheels. It looks good, I'll give it that, but I am not actually sure if it's at Nurburg. It actually looks more like the first set of corners at Le Man? I could EASILY be mistaken about this so I won't swear that they're incorrect but I don't recollect anywhere on The Ring that ever looked like that. There's a similar set at Nurburg, sometime shortly after the last bridge, but that's a fairly wooded section. Meh, maybe I am missing something? Anyhow, it's still a good video and well worth the time spent. It was exciting to see the Quatro change the way races were done across multiple fields. It was a time of change and I even went and got a Quantum that was a 'synchro' from VW but borrowed heavily from Audi - including the odd 5 cyl engine.

I'm sure Block himself would tell 'em to shut it and respect an awesome tribute to one of the greatest eras of motorsports history. A lot of Millennials claim the 80's were a great time. Well, if they love the 80's they gotta love this music too 'cuz there was no escaping it!

    Audi was a pioneer in the use of 4-wheel drive in competition and specifically in rallies, that's for sure. But Mr. Piech's stubbornness in competing with a car as close to street models (the Audi Quattro was conceptually a Gr. A, whatever they say) meant that the competition had more effective vehicles with mid-rear engines (that they did follow in detail the possibilities granted to them by the Gr. B regulations). The truth is that Audi, since the arrival of Peugeot and Lancia with their 4-wheel drive Gr. B, could only win the 1985 San Remo Rally, when Peugeot and Salonen were already champions that year and, on the other hand, the climb to Pikes Peak (due to a broken turbo intake flange in the engine of Vatanen's Peugeot 3 km from the finish), where Vatanen had set the best times in practice and also in the partial times in the race, in which he was winning with clarity. Even so, they were only separated by 7 seconds. The other races were won by Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 and Lancia Delta S4, which were more agile cars with a much more even weight distribution.

    The much fancied quattro with it's 5 cylinders and four wheel drive was unable to conqure the safari rally in Kenya. The Opel Ascona 400 rear wheel drive rally car,no turbo and on twin carburetors wiped the floor with the quattro.Hehehehe

  • @Vazin

    @Vazin

    7 жыл бұрын

    Audi was never applauded or honored for the amount of wins or championships won. The result as to why the Audi Quattro was so legendary was it absolute domination when it first appeared. No one had ever thought of Audi as a normal base car manufactorer to literally wipe the floor, running against purpose built rally cars like Lancia. Although the Opel Ascona 400 was the last rear-wheel drive car to win the driver's world championship. But when Audi upgraded the Quattro during 1984/1985, Opel couldn't compete with it, and was seen as obsolete.

  • @Vazin

    @Vazin

    7 жыл бұрын

    When Audi appeared at Pikes Peak in 1985, they trambled 60 other purpose built race cars to the top and did the same in 86 and 87. Then in 1988 during the Trans Am series, they again dominated the competition on the small and more narrow tracks, but couldn't keep up on the long straights. This was all done on the frame of the else normal Audi 200 you could go down and buy at your local dealership. So it is more the "shock & awe" effect Audi was known and still praised for to this day.
