And so, it’s time for the 5th episode of our ”Audi Legends” series. This time we have a real gem here. It’s the first generation AUDI S8. Here it’s the facelifted first gen from 2001. Specced in the Audi exclusive Ebony black pearl effect and caramel interior, it looks so good! Manufactored between 1996 and 2003, it really put Audi on the map. It had the high tech new ASF, Aluminum Space Frame, had that V8 4.2 with 360hp, lots of goodies, and it just looked so good. Many of us remember it from the ”Ronin” movie with Robert De Niro. Well, enjoy this very mint one, as much as you can. They just don’t make them like this anymore.

It makes me nostalgic to see this car...because I was there when it was released (I mean, I was a kid, I read about it in magazines), I remember when it was the greatest luxury sedan ever built by Audi (the D2 platform, that is, I'm not being specific about the S8), all-aluminum, high-tech... About 26 years since then...19 since this S8 came out from the factory...damn, I feel old already...😅

I feel every word you say. I grew up myself with the B5 / D2 / C5 generation, so it's always close to my heart. And shooting a car like this, in condition like this, was surely special.

@@Auditography It's why I'm so enamored by the cars from this period. They were, _are_ and *always* will be my childhood heroes. I'd devour magazines like there was no tomorrow, reading everything I could about each and every one of them. And every time I saw one on the streets was a big event for me. In a parking lot, in front of a restaurant or being driven by their happy and proud owners, I would stare at them, look at all the details...and back when I wasn't used to walking around with a camera because I didn't know how to use them, and digital was still years away from becoming the norm...every time I saw one of these became a picture, a film in my mind. Damn, I remember when I first saw an RS4 B5, in the same gray from the official release, owned by the soccer player Romário, in the parking lot of a steakhouse! I was like "Whooooaaaaaah!!", spent half hour just walking around the car! As much as they might've been overcome by newer generations in all aspects...these ones...from the 90's followed by the early-mid 00's...from my childhood...will always hold a higher place in my favorites list than the rest of them.

@@Roddy_Zeh I was born in 96, but I feel exactly as you when I see a cool 90s-2000s car. For me, they are by far the best generation ever.
I have always loved the 96 to 03 Audi S8 since the movie Ronin, bloody classic design and performance!!! 😱😎

I've owned three manual shifted S8's.... Gorgeous cars. Never should let the last one go. It was the exact same copy of the green Ronin S8... Green exterior, beige interior and 6-speed manual gearbox.
When cars were still cars! Legend!
Absolutely stunning even all these years later, the Audi A8/S8 seems to be forgotten by some but its one of the finest production cars ever built. That engine is something else, in such a luxurious beast 🙌

@@Auditography In Germany only 2000 left, i have one. But be careful with the Motor, Oil and Liquids. Mine have 300 000 km. To shock the new Cars, its the best.
My wife drives a Ming Blue '03 S8 and I've wanted one ever since first learning about the car then seeing it in Ronin. Back in '01 I was the webmaster for Audi Club North America (Quattro Club USA at the time) and was lucky enough to experience one of the first S8 models to arrive in Minneapolis. My friend Jim would wind up buying one back then and I can tell you they were just amazing when brand new. Even all these years later and with more than 150k miles our '03 is still looking good and going strong. Next to the UrS4/S6 the D2 S8 is one of my all time favorites.
these machines with soul, it is a pity that these will no longer be. 
I owned a 2001 S8 until 2011. Black with grey Alcantara interior and grey birdseye maple wood. It was a really fine car, and your video brings back many good memories.

@@RAFAEL199O Just regular service was expensive. No major repairs until it got to 8-9 years. In 2017 I bought the last year of production Chevrolet SS (this is the Australian Holden Commodore) Now at 52,000 miles and the only expense has been changing the oil and oil filter. The LS3 V8 sounds wonderful, and I have the manual 6-speed. One of the best sports sedans. Not the upscale interior of the S8, but much faster and better handling.
What a perfect example of a d2! Well done
Got one myself, a 3.3tdi. An twin turbo V8 diesel that is. Love that car so much
Best looking saloon car of last 40 years. Especially in the facelift form seen here, which just lifted the front end to perfection...

For sure one of the greatest together with the B7 RS4.
Brings back memories of when I had mine. Can remember topping it out at 165mph and the limiter kicked in. Regret selling it however the gearbox like many others gave way in the end. Awesome machines.

Stunning, simply stunning. Nobody, and I mean nobody does understated aggression like Audi. Not then and most certainly now in our “shouty” is better age.

4D кузов и сейчас не скажешь, что он смотрится устаревшим на дорогах. Очень удачный дизайн, спокойный, но в то же время не выглядящий миролюбивым, но без чрезмерной агрессии.
This car was an absolute dream! I had a '94 A8 4.2 and I loved it. The 2001/2002 S8 models were my dream though (the facelift upgraded the looks a lot in my opinion), black exterior, black interior with the alcantara seats and a MANUAL! So far I totally agree with your legends ;)

Fl model but with silver paint, black interior and with leather recaro and most important... manual here. This car cant be described, its just hidden gem of motorisation. Im laughting in this car, when i see mainstream young guys exaggerating M5 E39. This car is art, its mona lisa of large sedans/limo.
This car is so handsome, it still looks fresh and much better looking than it's German rivals of the time.
This is the same Audi featured in the “Matrix Reloaded” What a sexy car I want one ☝️🤩❤️👍
The S8 D2 series has such a clean profile and i think it's sized just right. The D3 with rhe V10 was a bit too big & heavy. The D4 looks very modern though and is a sharp looker and a true Q car. A D2 in excellemt condition can be had for well under $20K in Australia. An absolute bargain. A had a 1st gen A8 (D3) and it was my first V8. Loved it! I now own a S6 (2013), but I aspire to an S8 (D4).

That’s very interesting. I’ve heard the D4 is a sporty car to drive. I guess not so much haha. I have a D3 A8 4.2, and it does come alive in sport mode or manual mode.

They are designed to be revved out. Audi spent a great deal of time and money to make them perform that well. Drive them like they're built to be driven. Otherwise, just buy a diesel A8 if you aren't going to drive it hard.
I have such S8 D2 Generation, amaizing car, love to drive it much more than mу day to day company car 2017 VW Passat. Never the less it is 18 years old, you feel fantastic comfort in combination with perfect performance of 4,2 liter engine.

Wow! I just watched the 2021 S8 vid,...and the first thing I noticed was the exhaust note of the 2021 model S8 is nearly identical to that of the the model year S8 featured in this vid!
Seing this particular model just makes me think of the car chase in the film 'Ronin'.
