We are jumping into something timeless, here in the new episode of our KZread series Audi Legends. It’s crazy to think that this tank is almost a decade old by now. It really made me smile when I entered this so mint D4.5 Audi A8L with that monstrous W12 6.3L engine. I felt so at home here because it comes from an era when I was starting up Auditography and was shooting the D4/D4.5 a lot. Never have I had the W12 though. Until now. I still prefer the D4 all day every day over the D5. The quality of the interior is just so pure, and the car has that elegant vibe about it. Hope you will enjoy this timeless peace of machinery. @@Nomad_11I can confirm that 2 D5 W12s exist. Audi’s head of R&D said it would be available as special order. Whether or not that is true I can’t verify but having seen 2 (including the press car) and a possible unconfirmed 3rd I hold hope
It is gorgeous with that exclusive interior color and stitching for sure. I'm interested in buying it just to have a second one.

Another great video, for sure! Lad, any chances of finding an A8 W12 D5 to film? I remember seeing pictures (and videos) of a maroon example when the D5 generation came out, supposedly packing a W12 with 585 hp...twin turbo, I guess. But I think Audi gave up on selling that version, because that was the only time I saw/heard about a D5 with the W12 engine.

Yes correct. I was personally on that launch event in Barcelona in 2017, and that was the only time the D5 W12 was seen. It was later canceled due to that the engine didnt manage to pass the stricter emission regulations. Doubt that any was ever sold.

@@Auditography Dammit. 😭 So much potential...and it's even ironic that they failed emissions when the same engine (or so I think, likely) in the Bentley Continental, Flying Spur and even Bentayga, passed the emissions test. But anyways...😓 Do you think that example is still around somewhere, stored maybe? Probably owned by Audi itself? If so, do you think there's any chance, at least a chance...of arranging a photoshoot of that car?

@@Roddy_Zehsame engine, yes merely detuned. It was the 4th gen production W12 with dual injection and cam disengaging variable displacement developed by Bentley for the Bentayga. I have seen at least two D5 W12s including the maroon press car. There was a statement made by Peter Mertens from Audi R&D that it would be available as special order for the first year of D5 production but then it would go away

@@Roddy_Zeh I’ve been trying to find out, I’d very much like to post those production numbers on my channel and on my W12 owners club website. The other one was Glacier White. The 3rd unconfirmed one was also white with different wheels but I did not see the engine only badges so I couldn’t confirm
What I like most about this car, is that I own one :D

Agree. As an owner of a D4 S8 with the pale grey /carbon fibre interior, its the best interior this side of a Bentley. Still prefer the round boss steering wheel over the new design.

I've seen more Volkswagen Phaetons than A8L's with the W12. For reference, I've only seen the former once. This is Bentley luxury for cheap.
