Audi dropping the ball on refinement normally one of their strengths. Good review and great editing.

Not really dropping the ball. You have to understand that refinement overall in terms of wind noise and engine noise is still very good. Its only tyre noise that's a problem due to the sports alloys and low profile tyres having less rubber on them. Its a problem many cars have these days. Its probably more noticeable in the A3 because the wind noise is very low and the engine noise is very low.

Very good review and new intro. Like the humour too. Funny how this car when maxed out on options is even more than a 2nd hand BMW M2 (2019).

I replaced a 2017 A4 for a brand new A3 Sportback. For a similar price I could have bought another A4 with less options or a fully loaded A3. In the end I went for the latter. Space was not my priority, but now I’m enjoying all the extra goodies like Matrix headlights, a B&O sound system, panoramic sunroof, driver’s assistance pack etc etc. Of course the A3 doesn’t make the same impression as an A4, but I don’t really care. Inside is equally comfortable and I also like the new more modern design. Perhaps Audi has saved some money here and there when they chose the materials for the door panels or some of the trim, but overall I still feel like I’m driving a premium vehicle. In my case, the “downgrade” from A4 to A3 was actually an upgrade and I would definitely do it again if I could turn back time.

It all depends on what you want. If you want more equipment and tech then it is fine as in your case. Although overall it is a downgrade as the A4 is in another class, the A4 is more spacious, higher quality, more refinement, more comfortable and more suited to long distance driving but as you said at least you get more equipment with the A3 and due to the A3 being lighter you do get better handling.

@fabian78 but you could buy a Skoda octavia with much better tech, higher spec, better quality interior (soft plastic / Alcantara). Also the MMI doesn’t work on the new a3 and Audi will not offer a fix

This new generation model don't look as intriguing as the last one did. Audi should have mirrored the interior of the A8/A6 with the dual touch-screen.

Just my opinion. But It's for badge conscious people who wont buy a Focus.

I used to own a number of Skoda vehicles before I switched to Audi. I wouldn’t call myself a badge conscious person and I would definitely consider another Skoda. But you’ll never see me behind the wheels of a Ford....

Its a lot more than that. A Focus is a good car but it can't match the Audi for Design, Quality, Engines and Refinement. The Audi is much more of a complete Package.
