I was thinking of getting the 1 litre sportback , is there a lot of differrence with the 35tfsi?

I'd rather just get the 4 pot engine. It won't struggle on an uphill

Did you ever drive it on the motorway? If so when you were up to speed was the 1 litre engine noisy?

It was surprisingly refined however when you put your foot down say from 60mph it made a 3 cyl rumble noise and the pick up was a leisurely. Cruising at 70mph was around 2.2-2.5rpm so pretty decent from refine point.
