Audeze LcdXC 2021 Review. Featuring ZMF Verite-Closed & Focal Stellia. The crowning jewel of 2021?

Ойын-сауық

The LCD XE has come in and is hitting hard.
I think the 3K closed back headphones of the industry should be shaking in their boots.
With a minor tweak let me show you how this can attack the 2.5 K region at half the price.

You were spot on in this video as far as the sound of these headphones go. Although I don't think my Ifi go Blu sounds good with these (at least on 3.5). Also, I use my Felix audio MKII with upgraded power tubes, power cord, and fuse, to play EDM with amazing success. I upgraded to the Dekoni lambskin pads as well and wow, what an improvement on bass, treble, and soundstage! Another well done review, even though it was a while ago, it still holds true today. Oh, I also use a 4k Kimber Axios cable on them, so many of the issues are fixed (it better for 4k!) 👌🎼✨

I wear the LCD-X Open outside. Especially in the winter where I can ‘hide’ them under my coat hood. I have zero shame when it comes to audio About Pad swapping, i Switched to Dekoni hybrid elites and I am still blown away. Crazy comfort upgrade. And it smooths out the treble and couples better to my head so the bass is even more defined. I wish I had new stock pads to compare to to be able to tell if they sound slower, but even if so, I’m in love with these pads, makes me smile every time I grab them

I enjoyed the XCs when I had them but that upper mid/lower treble knife just cut me too many times. I should have tried pad rolling but I’m not as patient when it comes to headphones with glued on pads. I’m older and not treble sensitive but I just couldn’t take it. I found them otherwise impressive and great on the Woo WA6-SE transformer coupled tube amp. Oddly enough because of that upper mid/lower treble shrillness, I started reaching for the Dan Clark Audio Drop X closed for my closed back needs. It’s not as refined but damn impressive at $380 and it handles busy passages better than the XCs IMO. I’d love to hear your thoughts on that one or the Noire too. Great review as always!

I’m new to headphone audio, so treat me like a 7 year old. But I didn’t expect to hear that a headphone like this is that sibilant, according to what you described. Just how bad is it? I’m looking to upgrade from my fiio fd5 iems which is quite bright so that’s the last thing I want to hear about a headphone. Thanks.

@@phong5475 The headphones are treble forward they’re not sibilance those two terminologies are quite different I recommend watching the second fireside chat to catch up on a lot of the understanding behind audio in the playlist if you get a moment, The frequency response dictates that it is forward in the upper mid range lower treble region and I am extremely sensitive to it we all have different ears and perceive travel very differently But I try and do my best to encompass everybody’s hearing and how people in different groups might find certain things, but with a pad roll this is omitted

I'm thinking about getting these to replace my Dan Clark audio aeon 2 closed back headphones, that I put Dekoni pads on. I don't like switching the tuning pads on the aeons, as some songs sound good with a certain tuning pad, but other songs sound horrible with the same pad, and have to be switched out. I'm using a schiit bifrost 2 dac with a singxer sa-1 amp, and listen mostly to 60's and 70's streaming music from my computer. Would the LCD-XC 2021 edition be a good upgrade? If not, any suggestions on a closed back alternative? I'd appreciate any input, thanks.

  • @ConvinceMeAudio

The headphones themselves sound great, but the weight of the headphones compared to the DC is much much more significant that is something to bear in mind. As for your enjoyment of music, it depends how well the tracks were recorded 60s and 70s there was some really bad recordings so you could have a really bad time of it or a fantastic time if you listen to vinyl rips It’s a fantastic all round it headfone when you use the replacement pads, from dekoni But it’s very revealing and high resolution so bad source will always sound like a bad source

I'm wondering, how easy is to switch back to original pads? Do I need additional stuff? Looks like Dekoni sells those double sided glued rings, do I need them as well? Also, can I ask how did you come up with that headphones + pads combinations? did Dekoni know you were to review LCD XC and sent you some pads specifically for that gear to check it out or was it your initiative? I'm tempted to give it a try.

  • @ConvinceMeAudio

    @ConvinceMeAudio

Coming up with this pad combination was complete fluke, They sent me a massive bunch of pads and said have at it, see if you like it, and describe what your results are in the video which is what I did, and I must admit the result was spectacular For the specific reasons I mentioned, yes you do have to buy those rings Changing the pads over takes about five minutes each side the very first time after that you will learn and you can do it much quicker but it’s irritating as hell because it’s adhesive I wish it was magnets or clip like focal,

Ok, so I did pad roll with the Elite Sheepskin from Dekoni. I was very skeptical tbf, because I didnt like Dekoni pads on Focal Clears or Hitman HE6se V2 even tho there are numerous YT videos recommending them. they were great in comfort and quality but after longer listening I found they do something wonky to vocals and imaging. This time It was easier to bite the bullet because the stock pads have started to come off, but I'm happy to report that the results are actually very good. After week of listening I dont hear any issues with the change, but there is plenty to be liked, reacher sound, smoothen treble etc. The cans are still not perfect by any means, but they are much better indeed. I'm pleasantly surprised and can recommend the upgrade to everyone who owns XCs and is a bit underwhelmed with their stock tuning. Many thanks for the suggestion, I tip my hat to CMA, not many reviewers out there that tell how IT is 💪😎

Therefore I was in the market for new (head)monitors for mixing and mastering and bought the LCD X 2021 version. Had these for 6 months. They’re unbelievable. My end game set of cans!!! Also started with the wood cups but found upper treble too intense. These are much better. Almost perfect tuning. They’re not sit back and chill headphones, but more like that friend that gives you a high 5 that’s slightly too hard but you’re still stoked to see him. But you gotta be ready for a sound that’s very intense. Like going to a live show - need to be in the mood. Nothing is ever “perfect” but wow, nothing I’ve tried can touch them for detail and general lifelike sound (isn’t that always the end game of audio gear?) under $3-5k. Just run them off a Dragonfly Red to smooth them out a little, and as I move around the house sometimes and works very well (but these sound phenomenal on almost anything). Enjoy!

Chalk and cheese, very very different, not even remotely alike, I think these days now in 2023 I would choose the M50 I would bypass this headphone completely. This was good for two years ago now I think I would not choose it

Also, I apologise, by asking this question, it obviously looks like you’re looking for a closed back unit I will say, less picky for sauce, much much bigger stage, and more tighter control in the base region with easier source gear Significantly more heavy

This is not the first comment about this manufacturer and two of these Headphones, I’ve been getting the same for the last few years in regards to a lot of Headphones, bloody thing is the impossible to get hold of for review. Will bear it in mind though.

Bought the Dekoni Elite Sheepskin you suggested, very poor results and not nearly close to what you described. Enough to unsubscribe from your channel.

One, what are you using the LCD XE with Two, what are you having problems with Three, I want you to read your own comment back to yourself a few times and to see how ridiculous that sounds. And four, if you still want to unsubscribe, that’s your prerogative, will be sad to see you go.

Great review as usual, will these pair and sound good with Chord Mojo one , two and the Hugo 2? Will you be going to Canjam London yourself? Thanks in advance Anthony.

Both Hugo and Mojo too should make a nice pairing with the LCD Rather hesitant to say the first generation will be adequate though, it has been about four years since I last heard it And yes, we will attend canjam looking forward to it immensely
