    I just installed an Audere Pro jz3 3 band preamp. I haven't played with it much yet. The quality of build and assembly is some of the finest I have seen. Easy to install. And in the out of the box default programming, I like the tone and flexibility. Also important is that tech support is readily available via phone. Very nicely done presentation. Thanks.

    It's been very hard to find good demos of what the z-modes do. Thanks Lobster! In my head I want all the features possible but I know in reality I'll just have one favorite preset and never use the other ones. I think I'll put the classic adure in my Ibanez Talman

    This would be perfect for my sort of "one stop shop" studio bass I'm putting together. Should be able to mix into just about anything with that and hopefully the days of carrying around a collection of basses just to be safe are gone haha! Also, this might just be the kick in the ass my Bartolini pickups need. Thanks for all the info. I really loved these videos.

    I loved it. Is the one I like the most of the series. Tons of usable boosting for cheap. Anyway, what this videos had sold me is the bass. And if I get a v3-v7 for cheap I probably get this preamp. Thx a lot for the work!

    I have this preamp. It gives a lot of versatility and is especially good for playing chords without having the sound just turn into mud. But it is kinda complex. The detents help a lot with getting a feel for things. As does this video.

    Thanks for the review. I have a retro J in another bass (excellent pre amp too and review as well) and went with the Audre Pro JZ6D for my 98 Fender American Jazz Deluxe V after watching your review. Couldn't wait on the pickups I have on back order but easy enough to put it with the solderless connections. I had to unsolder the jack but otherwise a very easy install. I got the programming switch as well and I was able to locate it in the back inside the battery housing. I will wait till I get the new pickups before changing anything. I will be dropping in Bartolini 57CBJD L3/S3 which are the brighter version. I've got the classic voiced ones in two other fivers which really help to make the B string more balanced and clearer than the stock pickups.

    I think it is very awesome sounding and provides the most for the ultimate Tinkerer. I just have the Pro Z model but love it. I do think the rotary switch is ideal but I would have to install the jack on the end of my bass. That is not something I think I want to do myself. Anyway, thanks for the awesome video review

    I believe that the different Z impedances just mean that low means a lower input impedance (less highs) and the high means a higher input impedance (more highs).

    That preamp is way over complicated, I would just end up finding the one setting I liked and not bother with it after that. I am a very tech savvy person that works in IT so it's not that I wouldn't understand it, it's just that when it comes to playing bass I really just like simplicity. I really liked that Sadowski (Warwick) onboard preamp, that one was definitely my favorite.

    This preamp is the most jazz bassy sounding so far - but I think if you dial up the wrong config you might be able to icepick someone with this setup. It's sort of like giving a lot of power - you can actually overdrive your signal chain in some frequency ranges and get the ol natural distortion of holes ripping into your cones...I guess you know you're pushing a lot of power when the holes punched in your speaker cones are in a PATTERN. Anyhow, this preamp seems like it can be transparent to your pickup selection and then you can scroll yourself right off into hell if you like, similar to giving an engineer sudo in the wrong ring. :-) Good stuff, probably not going to make a novice player happy unless they are very patient and study a lot of tones, which is also good I guess, but that's definitely not going to be the average novice that can sit through that and keep a visualization of their own tone held as well. You can definitely learn ALL the things NOT to do in short order, which is also pretty good learnings so there are upsides to the adventurous. If you've come this far, perhaps you'll go a bit further. ;-) See: reverberations of a wave; standing waves

  • @miguelfernandes333

    Quite likely it's the pickups. it happens with most videos where the pickups are regular single coils. The preamps will just amplify what's already there.

    I agree with others that this setup is complete overkill. Seems like it would be hard to find your place once you programmed some preamp settings (i.e. How would I know I'm on setting 11 program without a visual, use my ears?). Does that Z mode programming switch really just hang out of the control plate like that? Looks idiotic. Audere should offer some sort of pre-route on the control plate to mount the switch into and have it concealed in the control cavity, but looking at the switch design and on their site I don't even see an option to mount it to the plate.

  • @LowEndLobster

    @LowEndLobster

    The switch is detachable, I just had it dangling for demonstration purposes only. I wish there was something that is fixed on the plate like you said.
