This interview has one amazing moment in it that I'd like to highlight: the audience laughs at almost everything Aubrey Plaza says whether she's trying to be funny or not, and then when she mentions that she had a stroke at a young age, there's perfect silence from an audience that is at a comedy show and is primed to laugh. Everyone in that audience in that one moment decided to care instead of just laughing. That was beautiful.

Yes, it does sound terrifying. But I don’t think it’s a mystery at all why it happened. My daughter is close to her age - 30 years old now. 5 1/2 years ago, my daughter had to have emergency surgery. Both her lungs and the tube that connects them were completely compacted with blood clots. It was a saddle pulmonary embolism caused but a bad reaction to birth control. She flatlined on the table and the doctor and medical team Thank God were able to revive her. It sounds a lot like a blood clot could have broken free of Aubrey’s lungs in a similar circumstance and hit her brain, causing the stroke. It’s nothing to mess with. Both she and my daughter are very lucky to be alive.

She has always been so good at keeping the entirety of her persona a complete mystery. Is she acting? Is she serious? Only she knows the truth.. and it's always been fascinating to try and reconcile the covert clues as she pretends to let us all peek behind the curtain. Is she a tortured soul in desperate need of rehab? Is she the therapist we all need? In reality, it's probably both. In a league of her own where she has mastered the art of awkwardness as comedy. If she had chosen to transfer her comedic talents to the field of martial arts she could have held an advanced belt in judo I'm pretty sure. She seems to have perfected the art of turning around the verbal energy and momentum of her 'opponent' and using it to her own comedic advantage, all the while expending very little energy of her own.. This is what judokas do in the physical realm. Requires great timing and economy of effort, both of which she seems to possess in great abundance.

I had expressive aphasia when I had my strokes. The only word I can say while I was having the 1st stroke was "wait". After I woke up 2 days later after I was helicoptered to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA and ended up in intensive care the only word I can say was "yellow". The next day I was normal and had NO deficits at all. After 2 wks. I was released only to have another mild stroke 4 hrs. after I got released. Aubrey Plaza is wonderful and I love her humor. She is real with it.
