Just made the whole dish tonight for dinner and for guests. I am really proud , it looks just like Jamie's!!
Love it so healthy 😍 thanks oliver
This is arguably the best daal recipe I have ever tasted. I mean literally couldn't put tasting spoon down. I was eating it straight from the pot. You eat it without the chapatti and rice. But its delicious either way. I have made this 2 weeks in a roll. Trust me I have tried quite a few daal recipes (including Vegan versions) but this will always be my fave.
For anyone wondering, this is a really lovely dish. I've just made it today and am currently eating it with some rice. The amount that is made from the given quantities of ingredients means that you get 4 generous portions worth of food, so for me this will be good for my main meal today and the rest will be frozen and eaten for a healthy lunch at work, however I can imagine that this would easily feed a family. I also want to mention that whilst this meal takes a long time to cook, it really isn't all that labor intensive and is well worth the invested time, thanks for the recipe!

+Scott Guest You're a lovely, lovely man, Scott! Thanks so much for the great feedback!
Thanks for this fabulous recipe Jamie! I tried it today and my family loved it! I tweaked it a bit by adding butter chicken paste instead of the rogan josh, which I didn't have and also added a bit of coconut milk and it turned out great! Please keep more of your exciting veg recipes coming our way! 😃
I think I might have to try this one pretty soon. I love that as a recipe, its been made easy to follow and put together. One thing I would love to see from the food tube channel would be a healthier take on Dahl Makhani. It's by far my favorite lentil based dish, but the amount of fat required to get the desired result means its something you should only really have on occasion. Its also hard to come by where I live, the closest I have found is a microwavable version in a pouch and its just not the same.
Looks good! I want it now...
Yes please!
Also everything looks delicious.!
Ooh I need to try this!! :)

Dear Jamie and team, So many great videos. So much inspiration. Thank you! But if there's one thing, it's that the fast edits and background music of recent videos make it difficult to focus on what is actually going on. There was such a beauty to the simplicity of the Jamie does... and Jamie at Home series. No background music or fast cuts necessary. This content is really good. Trust in it, and leave out the flash!
For tempering I use clarified butter, smells and taste awsome :)
Don't often have a meal with no meat, but this is tasty easy to make and quite cheap, amazing video Jamie and thanks for the help :)

+JuNkY LaCoUr Do you mean, as in a pre-made curry? You need a paste as the dhal will dilute it.
omg YUM!!
dude you are so awesome
It looks sooo delicious!!!! I don't know what that mixture was that you put with the aubergine and the onions. Can anyone help me? Thanks
Looks delish Xx I dont know if every indian house hold does this but once you roast the chapatis on the pan, my mom puts the chapati over medium flame so that it puffs up like a foot ball and then she serves up. :) Im totally gonna try that aubergine though :)

What would a good alternative for this currypaste be? Can’t buy it over here :)
Great recipe! Question: do you need to salt the aubergine (and rinse off) before cooking to get rid of the bitterness? I usually do this, just wondering if you think it's necessary here?

+Tami Rhodes Completely up to you, Tami! Go with whatever you prefer.
I would imagine using that temper/tampa(?) when cooking the rice would make for a nice yellow-ish flavoured rice :D
What spices would you suggest for a home-made rogan josh curry paste? I'd like to try the recipe but am put off by the thought of having to buy a ready-made paste. Thanks

Haha. I like dhal when it separates and is thick at the bottom and watery at the top. Also it tastes 100x better if you break up roti (or chapati) into a bowl, then pour in dhal and leave it for a minute. So good.

the spices + oil thing is called Talimpu in telugu, which we add in all our daals after they're prepared for that beautiful flavour.
Hey Jamie or anyone else.. How much oil do you use for the chapati? Mine are always too dry and not floppy/foldable 😗 help!

+Nick Leonard WOOHOO!
mate you will get a better browning on your rotis without the oil , besides hot pan surface will make olive oil toxic fast . Back home it's just wholemeal wheat or half and half spelt flour with just plain water no salt . Knead well to activate the gluten and then it's perfect for using to make your chapattis. SPlit pea gets claggy compared to channa dhal I would go with the second because the texture will be creamy yet there will good flavour and mouth feel . Remember to go to your local indian grocers can get your beans and pulses at rock bottom price and your exotic veg and herbs too.
superbbbbbbbbbbbb🤗
I liked that you cooked the eggplant in the oven. Never tried that and will try it. But what I did not like was you added curry paste. You should make your own paste. it gives a much fresher and better flavor. Also you cooked daal with split peas. It is usually cooked with toor daal. Never tried that and will try it. But what I did not like was you sprinkled the tempa/tempering/tadka on top of it like it was cilantro. You are supposed to mix the whole tempering with the daal. It adds a whole new flavor to it.
