This is my 31st year riding mountain bikes, and you are correct about MTB culture, although we are a bit different everywhere. Greetings from Oregon USA, currently there is a cougar stalking riders at Sandy Ridge MTB area (on the hide and seek trail), last month a black bear (reports believe it to be a mother with a yearling and new cub) was reported in Portland's Forest Park (Saltzman & firelane 5 area), likely they went back north to wilder areas.
